  1. Thanks for this info... what method are you using to deploy print drivers to devices? And do you then have a powershell script to map the printers per user? Seems like an extremely big task for someone like a large secondary who has complex print allocation via item level targeting.
  2. We have this at our school too. Just pulling the update from our print server now to see if that resolves it. Are others experiencing this if just the client updates? That is a step-up from last month where it was just the server patch that broke things.
  3. Has anyone seen the opposite and had any (significant!) increase in license numbers moving from FTE to EQU. This is the first year in running the procurement for a trust and I have asked staff in each school to accurately calculate number of EQU users for the school. I have provided the Microsoft EQU terminology and summarised as 'anyone who uses a windows computer / the office suite within school' is likely to need a licence, "those who just need email to access externally" most likely dont. The numbers I am getting are pretty universally (other than the secondary I was already responsible for) more than they had previously (pretty significantly in some areas) which is leading to an increase in cost and I suspect I am going to get it in the neck from our CFO! I suspect the most likely culprit is bad guidance / less rigidity in the process previously but just wondered if anyone has found a legit cause for this increase? @localzuk - Quick question on your comment ... I presume those going on to a device to check emails are using chromebooks / iPads? My understanding (and it would be AMAZING if I am wrong) is that if they are using a Windows device (for the benefit of the institution) then they still need a license as this is part of A3. Again, would love it if this was wrong!
  4. Are these still available? Possibly interested in 50.
  5. Hi all, Seem to be struggling to set assignments and forms today - wondered if anyone else is experiencing the same...
  6. Will this years sheets just appear in their at some point then? When do they get generated?
  7. Hi all, More of a question on process than specifically Bromcom I think. One of our primary schools has requested our support in entering statutory information on to Bromcom and I am struggling to get my head around where to start. There does not seem to be a quick and easy way to do this on Bromcom so I am starting to think I am going about it wrong and they are imported not entered. Can anyone help on the below How do primary schools typically get statutory information (I am thinking particularly of End of KS1, End of KS2 and Phonics - but possibly others)? Are tests conducted in-house (and therefore results DO have to be entered manually)? Or are these national tests and therefore results get given to the school by the examining board (similar to GCSE's within secondary). If the schools are provided with results, I am guessing they can access a CTF for import from somewhere - which makes sense! Where can I get this from? If entered manually what have people found the easiest way? I have found the 'View/Amend Assessment Data' page - with the help of Bromcom Support - but that seems rather complicated and time consuming. Thanks for any help anyone can offer me in understanding the process a little better.
  8. Yep... affecting us here too! First day of my holiday as well and the day before GCSE download day. Hopefully they can sort ASAP to put my mind at rest.
  9. thanks for confirming!!! Glad I'm not going mad! Was considering doing the pacakge and think it probably makes sense! How have you targeted clients? Created a group for those on a certain OS Build or put some kind of check in the application?
  10. Hi all, Just a quick sanity check and, hopefully, save someone the HOURS I have spent investigating this. It seems that the cumulative Windows Updates, you know the ones that are supposed to be a bundle of all previous updates, are not exactly working that way. After finding a number of client had stopped updating recently - particularly those most recently imaged from our 20H2 base, I have spent hours trying to work out why. It seems that Microsoft have moved the Servicing Stack updates inside the Cumulative updates... but not made them cumulative. It seems that on our 20H2 clients if you don't have the May update (which by now will have automatically expired as superseded on SCCM/WSUS) then you cannot receive any future updates. Has anyone come across this? I am just in the process of manually importing the May update back into WSUS to see if that kicks them back in to action but I do find it a strange move on Microsoft's part.
  11. Hi all, I am looking at changing our email addresses from domain name to a new trust format. This is on a domain synced with Azure AD Sync. I believe what I need to do is: amend the UPN suffix to the new domain in AD remove the SMTP:oldemailaddress record from the proxy field add an smtp:oldemailaddress record to the proxy field add an SMTP:newemailaddress record to the proxy field Is this correct? Does anyone have a script which does this on a whole OU?
  12. Hi all, Have seen a marked increase in phishing emails getting through to users receiving phishing-type emails and / or dodgy links recently via Office365 online. Other than anti-phishing / malware threat protection being turned on (which it is by default) what are you doing to combat it? Do you have third-party email scanning?
  13. Hi all, I know there are a lot of Veeam users on here and I wondered how people had setup their jobs to incorporate off-site? I had planned on: Nightly backup from Veeam to NAS (encrypted!) Mirror NAS to USB drive nightly that can be taken off-site weekly So far, so good. I have, however tried a recovery today and I cannot, for the life of me, get it to load the backups! They seem to import, take the backup key and show the number of backups but when I click on restore it comes up with an error. I am guessing it is something to do with my setup. I have tried setting the USB drive up as a share (and even given the computer the same name as the NAS!). As a side-note, on the repository it only shows 2.6gb of data, rather than the correct ~200gb. Am I best plugging the USB straight in to the server and setting a secondary job up on Veeam specifically for the USB backup? Want it as simple and minimal fuss as possible. Thanks in advance.
  14. ooo, following with interest as this is something that has been on my radar for a while!
  15. View the DPIA as a risk assessment - for something like an MIS it would be essential if only to demonstrate due diligence in how you are handling data. Nothing to worry about and shouldn't take too long - the provider should have everything you need. Basically just need to document where data is stored, how it is protected etc.
  16. Log-on script to text file for us! One script that writes to one text file for all logons within a school for easy searching when needed! It has been 100% effective and code is below: echo %date% %time% %computername% %username% >>"\\server\Share\Folder\logs\logons.txt"
  17. yet SignInApp, eReception and a couple of others I trialled provide more functionality, quicker to adapt and add features and generally make a far better first impression on the school - but school leaders are happy to pay over the odds and stick with what they know! It's the MIS saga all over again
  18. Should add that the above is clearly a limitation of the Microsoft permission structure and in no way reflects on the product itself! We started using it here about 3 months ago and it has been brilliant!
  19. @kidpressingbuttons - We looked at the Azure integration but did not like the permissions requested at all! Particularly this, so was particularly concerned what data they have access to: Read all groups Allows the app to list groups, and to read their properties and all group memberships on your behalf. Also allows the app to read calendar, conversations, files, and other group content for all groups you can access. Considering it requires, I believe, an admin type account to approve the link, I thought this was pretty significant! May be I have read this wrong, or there is a secure way to just share groups and members, but the wording of that did ring alarm bells!
  20. We do not use MCAS push notifications pretty much for this reason! I don't necessarily blame Bromcom but have always seen app-based messaging as a less reliable form of ensuring the message gets through. We had similar issue with another, third-party provider back when we had SIMs. My knowledge of android / iphones is limited but the issue is predominantly related to whether the app is running and awake to be listening for inbound messages. When I trialled both systems if the app was in regular use it worked great. But if I didn't check it for a few days and the app was not running in the background to pick up the alerts thats where things went a bit pear-shaped. Add in the fact that some phones have built-in battery savers to stop apps automatically starting and I honestly think you are on to a losing battle with regards a platform that you would want to rely on all messages being received all the time by all parents! Is suspect iPhone is better due to only having to tailor to one version of the OS, but I am not sure. That leaves SMS which, in my experience, is FAR, FARRR better - but certainly not 100%. I actually investigated quite heavily and found that certain parents said they were not receiving SOME of the messages going out from the school. This was limited to CERTAIN networks and almost always impacted bulk messages (rather than individual absences, for example). I came to the conclusion some networks were incorrectly (or correctly, depending on your outlook) tagging our bulk mail as SPAM. One work around I advised for this is to include something in the email to differentiate them (salutation for example) as this seems to get around bulk blocking. Finally Email - it is brilliant. I can not only tell when it was sent and who to, but whether their email server received it! It really is an absolute god-send when it comes to identifying where the issues are and we rarely have issues with parents receiving these other than (a very small number!) ending in junk. Main issue with this is some parents check this very infrequently. - - - Updated - - - Obviously, Bromcom, if there have been changes to the app and the way it works to improve reliability then I would love to hear about it and will maybe reinvestigate.
  21. Hi all, Is anyone using Google Classroom provisioning from Bromcom? I am looking at enabling this over the summer but have a couple of questions: Our users are provisioned using the google AD sync tool. I presume I am alright carrying on doing this and it will just match users up based upon email address? Were classes you already had on Google Classrooms, or have added manually since, removed at the point of sync. I know the tool mentions keeping classes tidy but I am hoping it is clever enough to keep track of ones it has created, rather than JUST keeping ones that are on Bromcom (if that makes sense). We would, for example, like to create year group classes for select subjects and would hope that we can do this manually without them being removed when a sync runs
  22. Can I be nosey and ask how you licence then MAVHC? Was my understanding that EES provides the most economical way for most educational establishments, not to mention most stable as you have a fair idea on what you need to budget year on year (vs. factoring in OS upgrades, Office upgrades etc.). Also, it is actually an upgrade from Home to Enterprise We had an old 'Schools Agreement' back in the day... now that was a ripoff!
  23. I have to say that in my experience speed has not been an issue for us, just in case anyone thinking this may be a large-scale issue. Only time it takes any time to render anything in fact is when we run significantly large reports.
  24. Hi all, Looking for a Server / SAN replacement and have had one quote (which I would say we are very happy with!) but in the interest of better reviewing the market I need to obtain two more. Can anyone recommend suppliers who can provide a fully managed server / san / hyperconverged solution including migration of VMs (VMWare -> Hyper-V) as part of the project scope. Thanks in advance. Michael
