Hi, Sounds like a lopp or network storm to me get your network scanners out and have a check, try to determin which IP or switch the traffic is coming from. Or try the manual way by unplugging each switch and then work your way down to one port on the switch. Dan

Hi, What Proxy do you run, is it linux based or Windows ISA? Do you sync your workstation and proxy times with your main DC? Is your DNS up and running correctly, can you ping an external web address? Can you ping your Proxy? Try running HTTP Fiddler to see whats going wrong would be my advice. Hi, Stick the folder on the root of the Server's Storage Volume and share it out as StaffShared and one for Students as StudentShared, then just map the drives when they logon using a batch script? As for permissions, I would set up departmental fodlers withing the StaffShared Drives and group your department members in AD, the assign the permissions on the specific Department Folder. Plus have a Global Folder that all departments can access. Do the same for the StudentShare but spilt it up into Year Groups then Department. I would suggest both folders that Students can Write/Read to but also folders that they can only Read from so that Staff can drop work in there for them to copy to their own work areas? Another good idea is to have an Inbox system where students can write files but not read or change or execute, this works well for dropping of homework, as once its on there other students cant copy it. Thats fantastic, thats what I call a lesson. I used to be just the same as most of these students were complaining about, I even complain about them now. I wish that I was encouraged more at school with me ICT as I used to love trying to break into schools systems, I even made a list over year 11 of all the problems and emailed it to the Network Manager at the end of the year. Hi, We Backup about the same, around 600GB - 750GB split over 4 servers using two Tanberg Untrilium, 1 AIT5 and 1 HP DDS3. We run a Mon - Thur with 4 rotational Friday Tapes, a Monthly Tape, 6 Monthly and Year. We also run a Wekkly Backup to Disk job to a terastation in a sepearate building. The tapes are kept in a separate building, a good 300Mtrs away from our server room. Its all covered. Dan

I use FTP Surfer, Its free and Fast and recovers from any errors or drop put that might happen when transfering large files. Dan

Stick to apache is my advice, I use it at home to host my websites and it works really well and has done for years. Its alot easier to customize and if like me your a linux lover then its all good :-) Dan

I used to use Supervision Cam, it has movement detection so can be set to only record upon movement saving space. We used to use 5 x 1TB SATA Drives. Im not sure how many it can handle but I have had 10 on there at once runnning fine on a C2D. Dan

Hi All, We have 12 workstation is our Music Department, they are all part of a vanilla network using AD and Windows Server 2003. Half of the machines have Cubase 3 installed, the other half have Cubase 4 installed. When a user with admin priviledges logs onto the workstation they can open Cubase 3 or Cubase 4 and use the program correctly using the supplied dongle that is installed in the rear of the workstation. But when a student logs onto the machine they can get access to the icon and the splash screen appears when the program is double clicked, but they then get an error message saying that the USB dongle is not recognised. I have tried giving the Security Group "Students" access to both the Program Folder "Synchsoft" which is the program that controlls the USB dongle and licencing. Also to the folder "Steinberg" which is the main Cubase Program Directory. Neither of these quick solutions have made any difference when trying to open ether Cubase 3 or Cubase 4. If anybody has any information, or has either program install and running, please could you post the details here. Thanks Dan Rhodes

Hi People, If anybody can fix this issue I will be eternally gratefull! We have had some problems with a few of our Smart Boards, firstly I though it might be an issue with just one of them but now another has started to show the same problem. The Smartboard we use are the ones with the integrated Projector boom arm with the Projector built into the arm. When the user is using the Smart Board, they can write perfectly normal on each side of the board, but if they move their pen accross the Board from Left to Right or from Right to Left, the pen line shoots out in random directions, the lines it creates look very unusual and alot like power signals on a Oscillator. There are power cables running under the board but the board is shielded so that should not affect the normal operation. Any ideas, Smart haven't..... Dan

I would defo go with the floppy disk idea, this sound like the most stable idea, just hire a few pupils on miniumu wage and get them to move the data on disk :-). Classic Idea. DAN
