Excel Formula to count unique values based on criteria
penfold replied to penfold's topic in General Chat
I ended up using this formula =COUNTA(UNIQUE(FILTER(Sheet1!$C$1:$C$124298,Sheet1!$Q$1:$Q$124298=A2))) which works. My issue was that I didn't want to use C$1:$C$124298 as I didn't want to put a fixed number into the formula. However, for what I needed it was quicker to do this and just check that it covers the number of rows rather than continue with troubleshooting the formula. The things with using a table is it seems to offer the same thing - I need to select the range I am using. All I was trying to achieve was to create a template tab and then update the data in Sheet1 each time I run a report so the other tabs would auto update. This is possible in some of the other formula I have used by using Sheet1!A:A. It seems I can't do this for the formula I ended up using. There is already a little bit of manual effort here so I was trying to avoid it Thanks all -
Excel Formula to count unique values based on criteria
penfold replied to penfold's topic in General Chat
Actually, I'm using this to count unique entries which works for total number of computers. But what I need to do is have this count but I want to filter the count based on the value. I could run another report to generate this information, but currently I'm trying to see if I can calculate it from the existing report as I'd like it in 1 place. Let me see if I can post an example Explanation: Sheet 1 which has raw data on computers and software on them. The columns I'm interested in is Sheet1 A which contains software and Sheet1 C which contains computer Name I have a summary tab which calculates the total no of computers using the formula =COUNTA(UNIQUE(Sheet1!C:C)) Also I want to be able to add a breakdown of computers so basically something like this. Summary Tab

A B Formula

Total 100 =COUNTA(UNIQUE(Sheet1!C:C))

Word 13 ?

Excel 10 ?

What I'm trying to do is count the unique entries in column C from Sheet 1 when Sheet1 column A contains the value in A2. Where the number of computers with Word & Excel would be 13 and 10 respectively. -
I am trying to use a formula to get the count of computers based on a value in another cell. What I am trying to do is get the number of computers with specific software listen in another column. In order to do this I have a summary tab which provides feedback with specific counts but I want to add an extra column and I am trying to use the following formula =SUM(IF(A4=Sheet1!A1:A10, 1/(COUNTIFS(Sheet1!A1:A10, A4, Sheet1!C1:C10, Sheet1!C1:C10)), 0)) To explain - A4 is the data I want to filter on so anytime A4 is listed I want to count the unique number of computers that has this. Now if I use the formula above I can get the formula to work. But as I am trying to create a template I don't want to specify the numbers in Sheet 1 as this will change. I have tried changing Sheet1!A1:A10 to Sheet1!A:A but if I do that then it throws an error and just outputs 0 as the result. I am basing my formula on this page - https://www.get-digital-help.com/count-unique-distinct-values-based-on-a-condition/ I'm obviously doing something wrong, but can't see what. If there is an easier way to get the unique count of computers based on a value in another column I would really appreciate that. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

OK, I narrowed this down to some Proxy issue I think. If I enable the proxy settings in IE and exclude address with the WSUS server it allows me to download. However, the Windows update still looks like it is going through a proxy. I'm checking the registry for proxy configuration but I can't see which setting I need to change. In some places Proxy is enabled and others it is not. I'm trying to find out now if a proxy is supposed to be used and if not I'll remove disable all the settings I find. But I think this may be a cached entry from the past

I have a specific client that I cannot get to connect to WSUS Server. If I go to the http://WSUSServer:Port/selfupdate/wuident.cab I can get the prompt to download the file so I know connection is OK. But if I run an update now I get an error message 0x80244022. Quick google shows that this is caused by application pool stopping on WSUS, but there is no issue on the server. If I look at the logs on the WSUS server I only see connection for the time I manually check the connection in a web browser. I see no connection attempts when I try to do a windows update. The client has been software distribution folder has been renamed and the client has had a reset performed, but I still can't connect to the Server. To me it looks like the client is using a proxy and there could be an issue there, but I am not sure why this would happen if I can get the prompt to download the file. Any suggestions?

That article makes no sense. It says no departments, but then people are expected to learn how to do things to support themselves? So even if you don't have a traditional "in-house" department, someone is still doing the work. The work doesn't just go away because you don't have a dedicated name. Someone must be doing HR Tasks and IT support - Inhouse or outsourced:confused:

This is what I was thinking. But I am not sure if the client has already downloaded the update, will it detect that it is no longer needed?

Can someone please check my train of thought. We want to move to a approve updates once per month, but stagger the install by setting group policy to install on different time. If a patch is released globally and we see a problem, can we then decline that update and it will not be installed on later systems? From what I can see when you decline an update it can remove it, but if it hasn't installed yet, what is the process? Will the client detect that this update is no longer needed and not install even though it is downloaded locally? I've just checked this https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/17bdb06e-1cc5-4e61-b39f-d3d5957f99a6/declining-an-update-thats-been-downloaded-but-not-installed?forum=winserverwsus I've also seen that once you have declined the update you can select approved for removal. Which if I understand will remove it where it is installed. But what happens for those systems that are yet to install it...does this mean it will be installed and then removed?

@meadowgirl & @msi_school - Thanks, but I don't think that's needed. The phone has already been replaced, I'm just trying to get it functional so my daughter can use it. I want to put some restrictions in place so I've flashed a new ROM. It will have to do for now as we are not buying her a phone Just annoying about the start up, but I'm not going to spend any more time trying to fix it I don't think. Especially after the amount of trouble I had with it on my computer, only to be able to do it straight away on another one

Yeah, I did that and I am getting them connected....I was just wondering The only outstanding issue I have now is to see if I should enable logging on the WSUS Server? So far I have run the script remotely against servers and it possible to get them reconnected. But as it looks like some are timing out I still need to make some changes in IIS. Is it worth enabling IIS logging so it can be used to check if there are systems trying to connect but failing?

@JJonas Now, you know I tried this last night. But on watching this video I decided to look again. When I looked at the format it said ext4, but when I went to change it, it was different. I followed the instructions again and this time it has booted up so many thanks Unfortunately it still comes up with the error "your device is corrupt and cannot boot" but if you press the power button it will boot. Annoying, but at this point I think I give up
-
I managed to get TWRP installed by using an old laptop (same drivers worked this time) and I flashed a Lineage ROM I downloaded. This time when it boots I get "encryption unsuccessful error". I've tried reformatting the system to ext4 and re-flashing from here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/encryption-unsuccessful-aufter-flashing-rom.3732484/ but but still I have the same error. Also tried a different ROM but get the same error. I'm starting to wonder if the device is just dead....Has anyone had this error after flashing a ROM? I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or the phone was broken before hand and flashing can't fix this?
-
No problem, it was a bit of a long shot. I guess if I had managed to root it and get access I could have played with ROMs. Oh well Thanks anyway

Hi, This is a bit of a long shot, but I have an old Wileyfox Swift 2 which has the your device is corrupt and cannot boot and I'm trying to install a custom ROM and I'm kind of going mad going in circles. I am stuck at the first hurdle and everything I am trying goes nowhere. I have adb & Fastboot installed and can reboot into fastboot via adb connection. However I am unable to do anything in fastboot. From what I can see this is because of a driver issue and it is not showing in Windows correctly. I have tried so many different drivers now, but it still is not detected properly in managed devices. I am guessing this is why I am not able to do anything in fastboot. I have rooted & flashed ROM in the past on different phones, but I've never had this issue. Has anyone done this and can you offer any advice from where I am going wrong? It seems I am not even able to start. @Dos_Box - is this something you have done in the past?

I think we have found out why there are a large number of clients not connecting. It seems that we can run a force check in with WSUS using the script here, but it errors with a time out exceeded max round trips. If we run this command a few times it will succeed. I haven't yet changed the WSUS server settings to best practice and can see that we have what looks like default settings. Before I make any changes on the WSUS Server I wanted to check the IIS logs to see if there was anything in there which indicated timeouts from clients. Unfortunately there is no Logging icon as it looks like the Health & Diagnostics feature has not been added under the WebServer (IIS) role. I wanted to check the Server logs here, but am I looking in the wrong place? Is this not required for WSUS monitoring & troubleshooting? I basically wanted to check server side to see if I can see lots of timeouts of clients which I think may be an issue at the minute.

Where do $updates and $criteria and there values from? Is this generated during the $updatesession or I should be passing something here?

OK, so we watched How to Train your dragon. From a parents point of view generally I thought it was good, but I did think it was a little scary for my 4 year old in parts. But he said he wasn't scared and wanted to carry on and watch it and more importantly didn't have any nightmares We had hotdogs, juice and some sweets and turned off all the lights. I even played some trailers from youtube and cast them to the TV to give them the feel of the cinema. They also looked at the next film they wanted to watch and seemed to really enjoy it. To be honest I really enjoyed it too....never seen the film before Thanks for all the suggestions....got a backlog of films to watch now;-)

In addition to this, I'm trying to check some machines which we think have multiple GPO applied and I would like to get actual settings being applied. Is there a way to script this to output to a file for (ideally csv for comparison)?
-
Thanks all. I think I saw how to train your dragon on netflix at some point so I'm going to look for that. In fact I told them last night I was going to get a cinema listing and times so they could pick what they want to watch I also have Paddington which was a present from a year ago but I read it could be a little scary for a young child as it has someone chasing paddington and stuff him? Anyway, lots of good suggestions and I do have some of those films on DVD so they can have a choice Thanks
-
I have a 4 & 7 year old who I've made the suggestion of going to the "cinema" as my 4 year old has never been. So we have promised them we will watch some kind of film complete with cinema experience at home. As such I am looking for something new to watch rather than watching a number of episodes of some kids TV. They have watched Shrek, Frozen, Cars (youngest one didn't stay to watch it all). Also the lion king(cartoon one - although again the youngest one got scared at 1 part). So my question is, do you have any recommendations for something suitable for a 4 year old and would still be interesting enough for 7 year old? I do have some old DVD's but since becoming a parent I realise not all of them are 4 year old friendly. I do have Netflix so if there is something on there you can recommend that would be good. Thanks in advance

I will look to delete the account and re-register. The thing is WSUS is working, the problem is generating any report. Because the system is not updating in WSUS we cannot see if the updates are being applied or not. Checking the client locally shows that it is downloading and trying to install, but I need to be able to generate reliable reports. So far I am getting really poor success rate because so many systems are reporting as unknown. @googlemad - there will be no looking at any other solution as it is currently working. What we have are lots of machines which are not updating their status in WSUS so we have a lot of old entries which are a mix of old systems and problem systems. I'm trying to go through and get all the live systems to connect properly & delete the old systems. If I delete all old entries I will end up deleting lots of systems which I need to troubleshoot why they are not reporting into WSUS.
-
OK, I'm doing some troubleshooting here and I can see that the logs on some clients are showing that updates are downloading and even attempting to install. But on the WSUS server itself the system is still showing with an old Last Status report. I've run the PS command here and tried to force it to connect (which is does) but I don't see any errors showing. I've checked the ReportingEvents file under the SoftwareDistribution folder and also the events under Event Viewer\Application & Services\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate but I just see successful entries for finding updates. Where should I start to look into why it is not reporting into WSUS properly?
-
I've ran this command and for 1 client it worked. For the other one it seemed to work, but it still shows an old report status in WSUS. If I check the log on the client I can see that the following status <>: wsmprovhost.exe Success Pre-Deployment Check Reporting client status. But the thing is, this is listed in the logs before. So it looks like updates are working, but it is not reporting to WSUS. Now I know there is google, but I'm being asked to do lots of different tasks at the same time so would really appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction to start it may save me lots of searching
-
I've only checked a few, but about 4 from 5 have last contact timestamp in WSUS which matches the date on renamed folder. To be honest there is a fair bit of cleanup required. I was just wondering if this is something which was causing issues on live systems I'm seeing in WSUS Thanks
-
I have started a new position and it seems that as standard practice I have come into a place which when Windows updates fails, one of the things they do to get it working is rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. Now I am trying to tidy up WSUS and I can see there are lots of clients which are not connecting and as I'm going through it I can that many times the clients have a renamed SoftwareDistribution folder. Now I am trying to re-connect clients to WSUS by forcing a connection from the client side. But can anyone advise how this really should be done? I'm reading on some places don't rename the folder, but other places say it's a way to get windows updates to run again. Is this a case that when renaming the folder they need to carry out additional actions or this is bad practice?
