  1. We currently have a long process of generating spreadsheet reports for AV which I'm trying to automate a bit more. Currently staff log on to indiividual servers and enter details into numerous sheets on a spreadsheet manually and then this is then emailed off. Because of the struicture here there are numerous steps that are needed and I'm not in a position to make changes as I don't really understan the process fully as I've only been here a few weeks. What I am trying to achieve is a summary spreadsheet of numerous reports created on differnt servers. I've created csv files automatically from the servers and then I've managed to link data to from these reports to a summary spreasheet giving an overall total of items. However, if I close them all down when I open the summary spreadsheet I get prompted with "This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe..If you trust the links, update to get the latest data..." If I click on update the values shown have errored and show #Value. The only way the file will update is if I have all the linked files open. If I try do not update then the value shows OK. It seems to be the same issue here What I'm trying to achieve is this process: Server generates CSV file Open Summary Spreadsheet template and check values are updated. Save Summary Spreadsheet with Date to hold all data in single file Eail Summary to all required parties However, at the minute if I was to try and do this anyone receiving the Summary file would not be able to see the cell content just lots of #Value instead. This must be possible but I can't see what I'm doing wrong?
  2. I'm completely new to OneNote and I've just joined a company that uses it as it's primary sharing resource tool. One of the issues I see is that although there is a list of daily tasks there is no logging of it being done. I would like to get some sort of check list in OneNote and enter all the daily tasks so that multiple people can work on them at the same time and see the progress being done so we don't all end up doing the same work. I have looked at creating checklist in OneNote which is not a problem, but what I want to do is have a repeating task list and I can't think of an easy way to do it without manually copying/paste the initial check list to make up all the daily checks. I've also looked at reating tasks which seem to almost do what I am after, but link to my mailbox. Is there anyway to do this with a shared mailbox? Or is there an easy way to do this that I'm just missing?
  3. @Dos_Box - you're not helping!!...with so many people recommending it, I keep thinking a Switch should be my choice as it means it's portable and can be played with the family. But I'm still not convinced as I keep thinking it means giving up on the more serious games... I may just stop thinking about it and wait until after christmas and see where the mood takes me. I still think anything over £200 for a gaming console is a bit much but it seems that's just the cost these days.
  4. I can't justify paying £500 for a console - once you've paid for games etc. It seems I'll be paying nearly £300 for a console and some games for a PS4/xbox 1.
  5. hehe http://awscdn.cdngeek.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png This is me at the minute!!
  6. You're the second person who told me that!! As for Xbox X, it's just too expensive at the minute. I was thinking around the £200 mark for the console to get me going. And I do play some games on the computer but the reality is that it's not connected to the TV and getting playing time on it is a problem. To be honest, being able to get any sort of space is a minimum in my house so maybe a switch is the way to go!!
  7. I have decided to treat myself to a new console but can't make my mind up on PS4 or Xbox one S. I have a very aging xbox 360 which I don't play too much as it's far too noisy and I don't get too much time these day. I can't justify paying for the Xbox One X as it's too expensive and I don't have a 4K TV either and hopefully won't have to replace it too soon as it's not that old. I've asked a few friends what they play and they have equally PS4 or Xbox between them. I've read reviews online and there doesn't seem too much between the consoles these days. I personally prefer the controller of the Playstation but I think that's because I've used them more. It will probably be only me playing but do either consoles have any family type games which my wife may like. She liked mario kart and some platformy type games but as she isn't a gamer this is a small consideration but may be nice to have. So can anyone recommend a console or some games. I'll be getting Pro Evo for whichever console I get but don't really want to get a console for 1 game so will be looking at others available.
  8. Just a quick update as I got the radio station working on Google home. I just asked the station saying each letter rather than the word. I'm guessing this may be because it is a foreign station so can't understand the language but can do the letters. I should have tried that in the first place as I did read it online just didn't try it straight away:getmecoat: Anyway, it does what I'm after and got it set up for my wife to use. 9. Have you got this working on the Google Home? I tried uploading some music last night but when I tried to play something it couldn't find it. I'm guessing bacuse of some problem as discussed on here?
  10. @GuyJD - I thought I read if it matches your file to one it has in the store it would make that one available - meaning it could be a better quality version. @LeMarchand - I have thought about it for a number of years and always put it off because of the time it would take to make all files consistent Is there a standard structure that should be followed before you upload the music? I've just thinking of how to ask for a song from the google home. Does Google music categorise it or just from the folder/filename. If this is going off topic I can make a new thread (but this may be useful for those still deciding on which unit to buy?)
  11. @mavhc - I have just read quickly about uploading the music, but I've got one question. I've got quite a lot of music that I've ripped over a number of years since I first had an mp3 player. However, due to not knowing enough about how to do it in the first place, some of the files are not particularly well named (eg, some have the track number and title some don't. Some have information in the file details, some don't) Does google automatically match based on filename or do you get prompted. And how does it block any files if it thinks it is copyrighted? I have bought some CD's from Amazon which are now available as a digital copy but I thought this was copyrighted so I couldn't move it anywhere outside of Amazon music? If it means I can transfer it into Google Music then I might look at moving my music there.
  12. Had a quick play with the Google home mini last night, and while it was easy to setup I couldn't get it to play some radio stations from Tunein. Granted they are foreign stations, but I just kept getting "that is not available" which seems to be a pain. When it recognised the channel I was surprised how quick it started playing music. I did a quick search online and found some stations were just problematic if google didn't know about them (or how to pronounce them). I was hoping that I could just say play tunein radio and if I only had 1 station as a favourite it would work but sadly not. I don't pay for music subscriptions and with the wife mainly listening to Tunein for the majority of music I'm now finding it may have some limitations compared to what I was hoping.
  13. That's what I thought. I took the plunge last night and ordered a home mini. Thought it was worth it at the price as it's not too expensive if it doesn't get used too much then.
  14. OK, wrong wording. We stream tunein radio from the laptop to the Stereo (living room) via bluetooth - this doesn't use chromecast. For the chromecast connected to the stereo in the kitchen controlling it from the phone is a problem as it takes so long to get the app connnected (this doesn't have anything to do with the chromecast - just the phone that was used) once it is playing it's fine. My phone has always been fine, but it's the wife who has had problems - this is to do with the phone, not the chromecast. My idea, was to use the mini as a radio in the front room (if the sound was ok) and also be able to control the audio chromecast in the kitchen rather than use a phone.
  15. Laptop is for streaming radio via bluetooth. For streaming to the Chromecast my phone is OK but the Mrs wasn't. Very poor battery life and it was soooo slow it became almost impossible to play anything quickly and she would just give up.
  16. I do already have a Chromecast for the TV which was used with netflix (which now doesn't really get used as the TV has netflix built in - that and the laptop controlling it is so slow it can become painful to use). I also have an audio cast on the little stereo on the kitchen but again the phone being used to control it was so slow and the battery was so poor it was a pain to use and needed to be plugged in. All of which kind of made using the Chromecast a bit of a painful experience. Don't get me wrong on my phone it was fine, but for the wife she found it too much hassle. I was just wondering if by getting home mini might make it a bit easier to use rather than relying on old phone/laptops to stream content? At the minute she tends to use the laptop to stream the radio via bluetooth to the stereo It's not always the best streaming but I'm not sure if that's bluetooth or the laptop. If the mini home speaker was good enough for listening to the radio I might get one.
  17. I was tempted with the Google Home mini currently on offer. My only concern was the speaker - I would want to use it to listen to the radio but I'm not sure if the speaker quality is good enough. Anyone have any experiences with the mini? Would it be OK as a radio in a living room?
  18. Probably wont help you now but Veeam allows you to do this in a SureBackup environment. We use Veeam to do our VM backups. It allows you to boot a backup/replica into a virtual lab and test the systems are able to start-up as expected. I've used it to run some upgrades on our live systems in a virtual lab so I was aware of any problems before attempting it on the live systems. If you don't have Veeam you will probably have to go with what @rich_tech has done.
  19. We use Veeam for our Virtual and Symantec Backup Exec for Physical boxes. We run full backups at the weekend with incremental run during the week. Veeam backs up to a Backup repository and then we run tape jobs for weekly/monthly backups. We also run 2 archive tapes a year which are basically monthly tapes which don't get overwritten. Obviously there is a cost in getting these backup solutions installed in the first place. in the first instance you need to get backups of the systems you have, even if that is getting jobs pointing to your NAS drive. In the long term you need to establish what kind of service level they need if you were to loose everything in a fire. That's where tapes/off site storage/fire safes etc come into play. Once you know what they expect you can then look at products which will give you that level of protection.
  20. @unixman_again - thanks that's really useful as I'd been told this wasn't possible but don't have access to Moodle to check.
  21. Sorry @Techykev another question, Does this still work if you user Single Sign on for Moodle or does this now prevent the logon for moodle created accounts?
  22. This is what I thought, but wanted to make sure Moodle didn't do something odd like prevent manual account creation if it was syncing with AD. Thanks
  23. We currently have Moodle users syncing with AD and we create new accounts for our network which then get access to Moodle. Currently we create new accounts for visitors but I was under the impression that they needed access to our network which I've just found out is not required. Now I just want to check here before I make a suggestion. If accounts are being synced with AD does that mean that you can still manually create a new user in Moodle? What I want to move to is rather than create multiple accounts in AD I would like visitor accounts to be created in Moodle. Is this possible?
  24. Can I just ask a (what may be a completely stupid) question? If 1709 is only supported for 18 months why would you bother installing it? I'm just about to build a new server and thought I'd go with the latest, but if 1607 is supported as part of the LTSC and you get years of support what would be the point of going for 1709? And slightly off topic, if 1709 is core only does that mean we should be looking to install Server core going forward?
  25. Have you tried looking at Backup Copy?
