My training used to be more "intensive" but as I'm getting older I am a bit more conscious that I can't/shouldn't be doing the workouts I used to do. I took up cycling a few years back and also started running (which I only used to do for keeping me fit for other sports). I used to use my phone but the really poor GPS made me look into a watch with GPS so I bought an Amazfit bip u pro last year which has been good so far. However, last year I started getting a bit more serious into my running as main source of cardio and I have been looking at what the Garmin offers in terms of helping with the run itself and training modes and the fact you can upload routes and set training plans to use on the watch. As I'm over 40 I am not expecting any records to be broken soon, but I am looking at making more structure into my workouts and recovery and I am not sure if upgrading to Garmin would be worth it. I was looking at the Garmin forerunner 55, from what I can see the app is much better than zepp, but is it enough to justify upgrading a perfectly working watch? My main cardio exercises will be running & cycling but I also do some weights. Anyone have any experience with Garmin and did it really help with your exercising?

So it looks like the laptop was not picking up an IP address properly. As a result you could not get any internet access. It looks like it is trying to use a different subnet mask, I changed the IP to a manual configuration and it worked straight away. In the end I just set the DNS server and it looks like it is working. I'm not sure why it was working using the Auto settings and then just stopped, but for now it should be enough for them to use without issues.

Parents-in-law were given a new laptop for Christmas which is running Windows 10 S. It has no NIC so relies on WIFI for internet access. It took me a long time to get it connected to my network because it seemed to grab an IP address and then just kept saying "no internet" I think I eventually got this fixed by releasing the IP address on the laptop, but as it is running Windows 10 S I couldn't open cmd etc. I did look at unlocking the S mode, but from what I understand S mode is streamlined and as this laptop only has 32GB HDD and already doesn't have enough space I don't want to unlock it and make things even worse. The problem is of course now - the laptop connects to their own WIFI but shows "no internet" and as they have limited tech knowledge, trying to talk them through anything is a no go. Is there an easy way to change the IP address on Windows 10 S? I would normally use cmd to do it as this is easy to explain over the phone. However, without cmd I need an easy and foolproof way to do it, and preferably something I can add a short-cut to on the desktop in case it happens again. Looks like I will be visiting tomorrow, but as it is a 30 min drive, having something they can do themselves is a much better option Any ideas?

quick update on this just for closure. It looks like I missed a config option out and this allowed to to set the NIC IP which then got me connected. The odd thing was that although it allowed me to start the install, during the installation I had to then set the IP address again. Even after setting the IP details I've checked on the ILO screen and the IP is blank so I guess this does not reflect the IP address assigned. I still see some issues with NIC not connected when the network team say it should be, but at least I can move forward and troubleshoot that at a later date. For now I can get what I need to installed. Thanks for the help
-
I can now see that the NIC are online - If I log into the ILO I can see the status is OK, but there is no IP Address. From what information I have the switch is configured to the correct VLAN, NIC is showing connected. If I try and set the IP address in the installer config on the NIC I still see no connection in the network status. Is there any place in the ILO I can configure an IP address for the NIC so I can check to see if I can get a network connection? At this point I need to identify where the problem is so I can get the correct support. I know Vendor is saying that I need network connection but the network guys are saying I need to speak to the vendor as everything is OK. Meanwhile I'm stuck in the middle unsure what else I can try
-
@Davit2005 - So just for my understanding - if the port is configured to prevent a loop in the case that the NIC were configured to be a bond then it would prevent network connectivity on the client side? So if I need a network connection to be able to configure a bond, I need it to be disabled on the switch first and have it configured as a standard port first? Then I can get to the configuration screen, configure the bond>apply the config on the switch and all should work?

I need some help with a problem I'm facing. I have a new server I am trying to install tenable and have an ISO loaded which I need to use to configure an IP address for the network cards on the box. From there, it should reboot and then I can continue with the GUI to finish the installation. I have a problem which I think is a chicken and the egg situation and I need some support. The ports used have bene configured by the network team and I am being told that I need to setup bonding and LACP to get a connection. The thing is, from what I see in the documentation bonding needs to be done at the GUI stage which is done after a network connection. The only option I see is to set the IP, netmask and gateway. I have entered the details but I am not getting a connection Am I right in thinking that because the ports are bonded I will not get a connection until I configure the NICs to be bonded? Could this be why I am not getting a connection? From how I understand it should work from the application side, the process should be to connect to the network>Go to the GUI>Add configuration for Bonded NICs. In order to be able to do this, do I need a standard connection on the switch Port first and then change it to a bonded interface post install? As networking is not really my strong point, can someone explain to me where I should be looking to get this resolved?

Just coming back to this. I have a number of IP which I want to check which Networks they are in. I have been able to basically drop the last number using the split method thanks to @Steve21 but now I want to find a match in a csv. I am using the following I have a csv file which has details about the network range and location. I want to be able to get the location in another cell if there is a match in the searchterm using code here $searchTerm = "1.1.1."$temp= $csv |Where-Object {$_.Network -match $searchTerm} |Select-Object Network, city The problem is that the $searchterm like above matches multiple times if there is an entry 1.1.1. and 1.1.10, 1.1.1.11 etc For some reason it is ignoring the last "." in the searchterm and therefore getting multiple matches. I've tried -eq and -like, but I do not get any matches that way. Is there something I am missing or will I have to go about it another way? What I want to be able to do is just match specifically "1.1.1." which is what I thought I was doing

I managed to get this sorted by saving the encrypted keys into single files and then decrypting them in the script. Based on the information I found here - https://kiazhi.github.io/blog/powershell/Working-with-secret-in-PowerShell/

I have a PowerShell script which I am using to run some API calls and grab information which I am running manually. At the minute I am using the AccessKey & SecretKey hardcoded in the script. I want to be able to run it on a schedule so I want to be able to call the keys from the script and remove them from the script itself. I have tried using ConvertTo-SecureString –AsPlainText –Force | ConvertFrom-SecureString | Out-File "C:\Scripts\File.ini" and then using the following code $SecretKey = Get-Content "C:\Scripts\File.ini" | ConvertTo-SecureString But if I do this I get an error when I try and connect using the API. I am guessing the error is because the call does not recognize the secure string. I have a feeling I'm going about it all wrong, but I'm not sure what I should be using so I can use the script on a shared server. I am new to API calls and I am at a loss to how I can use Access/Security Key securely. I have searched but am finding a solution using Azure which is not something I can do. How can I store the API Keys securely so I can use them in scripts?

The tablet seems quite good. Although they haven't been used for too long so it's a bit early to say. I haven't tried to link it to the echo we have, but it should be OK. I have google family link and setup accounts for the kids rather than use the in built function on the tablet. I'm not sure if there is any difference. If I get time I will try and connect it to the home hub I have and let you know.

I am trying to update some Assets in Tenable for some scans we have. I am able to change some of the fields that I need to, but I am lost when it comes to updating the asset itself. If I want to change the scan time or IP list etc I can use the Code below $update_asset = (ConvertTo-Json -compress @{ "maxScanTime"="12" "ipList"="" "assets"="38" }) $update_asset Invoke-RestMethod -Method PATCH -URI $URI -Headers $headers -Body $update_asset From what I can see this is because the format is "response" : { "id" : "4", "name" : "POSTtest", "description" : "This is a test for POST", "ipList" : "", "reports" : [], "assets" : [], But I am completely lost for the format I need to use when the structure is "assets" : [] Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I've narrowed it down to the LENOVO TAB M10 HD 2nd Gen or Samsung A7 Lite. I'm not sure there would be much of a difference between the sizes (at least not that the kids would notice) but I'm leaning towards the Lenovo at the minute. I have some vouchers for a shop which has both. Both are priced the same and reviews seem similar for both. I just need to remember to get a case also as I don't really fancy them breaking it in the first few days!!

They are 5 & 8 but I am in a very similar situation as you described

It seems to me there is a lot of cheap tablets on offer. But most are very limited with 2GB and I can imagine that won't last well with children and their patience!! Seems it would be cheaper to buy a phone with better specs. Only thing a tablet offers is the bigger screen?
-
I am thinking about getting a tablet for the kids. Currently they are using an old tablet for watching videos if we go somewhere in the car, but they are very slow as they are very old now. As they are getting to the age of using tech in school, I was thinking of getting a new tablet which they could use for playing some games etc (and also watch videos). Question is - The cheaper tablets I am seeing only have 2GB. This seems a little low considering my phone has 3GB and seems slow for me. I don't want to pay for something only for it to be so slow it needs replacing in 12 months. Are tablets able to run better with lower memory than a phone? What is the minimum I should be looking at?

I have an IPhone which I want to mirror my screen to a TV. I have a chromecast and installed Google Home and I can see the Chromecast which is connected. I can even see and control what is being cast from another device. What I can't do is cast my screen to it - there is no icon to cast my screen. I was reading the information here - https://www.imyfone.com/mirror-tips/cast-iphone-to-chromecast-for-free/ Is there a simple way to do this for free? When I find apps which look like they will mirror your screen it seems that you have to pay for these apps?

Unable to expand disk due to Windows Recovery partition
penfold replied to penfold's topic in Windows 10
This is what I will probably end up doing. But I'm actually going away for a few days so I can't do it right now. As this is a cloned drive, I was hoping he could at least try and remove the partition himself, if anything goes wrong I know he can clone the old drive again. While if I had any issues, I would just re-install from scratch, I'm not sure if having the recovery partition would be useful for my dad. Does it offer anything over the recovery USB? -
My dad has an SSD which was running out of room. He was able to install a bigger SSD and cloned the drive over and apparently all is well. Unfortunately this also cloned the recovery partition which is preventing him from expanding the disk to it's full capacity. Normally I would do this for him, but as I am no longer living anywhere near him he has done it. Problem is now, that how can I enable it so he is able to expand the drive and use his full disk? From what I understand this can't be done easily in Windows. In the past (very long time ago) I have used something like partition magic to move partitions around which was pretty straight forward. My issue is the solution needs to be idiot proof so my dad can follow it without causing any problems - or at least run it again without any issues. Any suggestions please?

Updating of IP address on Physical Machine
penfold replied to penfold's topic in How do you do....it?
I don't personally have access, we would need to request it. But this is how I assume it will be done. Does this mean that we would need to remove the old reservation and replace it with the new server MAC, Sync everything and it should do it on the fly or requires a reboot? My main concern is basically loosing connection and not being able to get access to the server to force the new IP. -
We have a current project where we are performing an upgrade to one of our applications. Part of which is to replace the existing VM with a physical box (due to requirements). Due to FW rules we want to keep the IP Address the same as the existing box. The process will be roughly the following. Install new application Sync data/config Turn off old VM Update the IP address of the new Physical Server to Old VM. Make sure we still have access to application Normally I would not have any issues with this as I have done it with VM in the past. In that case it was easy enough as we have the console access to check the IP address and update it accordingly. However, as this box is a physical box and we do not have access to this I am a little cautious with this step. What steps can I take to ensure that when it comes to changing the IP the server will come back up and we will still have access?

OK, just to close this in case someone else runs into this... I had confirmation from Tenable that the integration with WSUS is only available up to Server 2012. This feature is no longer supported for later versions. They will be updating their documentation to clearly state this and the only option is to request it as a new feature (which I have done) So for now that is the end for me.

I've gone through the IIS logs and I can see that the account has the correct permissions a I can see successful login in the log files. However, these are not from the Nessus job. When a Nessus scan is run the entry from the logs do not show the username/pass, but instead show the IP address of the scanner. Logs from IIS logs show 2021-09-16 05:14:06 IPV6 POST /ApiRemoting30/WebService.asmx - 8530 domain\username Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+MS+Web+Services+Client+Protocol+4.0.30319.42000) - 200 0 0 15 2021-09-16 10:10:31 IPV4 POST /ApiRemoting30/webService.asmx - 8530 - IPAddressofScanner Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+8.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+Trident/4.0) - 401 2 5 0 I was wondering why the 2 logs are not using the same connection. Is the difference between the 2 because of using IP4/6? I have checked the application Pools incase that was configured differently and causing the issue, but I can't see anything different.
-
OK, I am a little lost right now. The account details are configured domain\username. I can log into the server with this account and I can open WSUS and see what is going on so I have confirmed the details are correct. In the security event view I see 2 failures - Credential Validation and Logon. Credential validation just shows The computer attempted to validate the credentials for an account... Error Code: 0xC0000064 Logon shows...Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. IIS logs show 2 errors for the same time POST /ApiRemoting30/webService.asmx ...401 2 5 0 and POST /ApiRemoting30/webService.asmx ...401 1 64 0 I am not sure where to start now, account is OK and can authenticate on this servers so is the authentication issue with IIS? I added Windows Authentication using Negotiate to the top as I had read somewhere it could be an issue if NTLM was specified first. But I still have the same issue. Now I'm at the point where I can't see the wood from the trees. It must be something simple, but I just cant see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
