  1. In the past I've also used to the same process to remove local admin accounts that someone had added over time. Can't remember the exact setting, but something like remove all and then just add the specific accounts so the only admin accounts assigned are the ones you want. Removes the problem of rogue technicians adding local accounts or users to the admin group when they can't get something to work properly.
  2. No. I want one for in the basement so I wouldn't want to play upstairs and in the basement. Actually I have 2 Google hubs and when I am playing music in the spare room I get annoyed when the wife tells the kitchen to stop playing(or play something else) and my hub listens and changes what I am listening to🤦♂️
  3. To be honest I don't really use Google for much( I do have some routines but don't use them a lot) I pretty much only see myself using it to play Spotify while I am exercising. And as they seem to be half the price of Google home, I kind of feel like paying 50+ for new Google device to play music seems a bit steep.
  4. I already have a couple of Google home hubs which I use to mostly listen to music from Spotify. I have a basement where I am setting up a gym and am looking to put another speaker in there. Based on Black Friday deals, it seems alexa can be picked up for much cheaper, but given that I already have google I don't know if this is going to cause problems or not. Might be a bit late in the day, but anyone have any feedback?
  5. Yeah, I was expecting some kind of reboot
  6. Does anyone use AWS System Manager? I am working with a team who is patching using this tool and I am told I can't get a list of devices and their compliance status. Does anyone have any experience with this, and if so, what reports are you generating for tracking how successful the patching is going? I'm looking here and it looks like you can generate a csv, but can this be exported so I can open it in excel? - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/systems-manager/latest/userguide/patch-manager-store-compliance-results-in-s3.html#patch-compliance-reports-to-s3-examples
  7. I managed to delete about 8GB worth of pictures/video. I had to do it in chunks as when I tried to do whole folders it errored near the end. After a few tries of this I gave up. In batches it works so I guess I have a few hours of cleanup to do I guess this is something I will have to monitor semi/regularly. Thanks for your help all.
  8. I just tried opening it as a folder on the PC. Unfortunately I don't know if it is the cable, phone or computer but it is painful. I keep either getting the device disconnected or doesn't show any content of the folder. It seems I have multiple issues and I don't know which is causing the problem - The phone, cable or computer. I just want to create a little bit of space so the phone is useable. Somehow this seems to be a bigger problem to fix than it should be
  9. @elsiegee40 - We also have 1TB of storage on OneDrive, this is why I want to use that. However, my wife has nearly 80GB of pictures which I need to sort out as the phone is now starting to stop working. I guess the quickest way to remove these photo's is from the computer with the phone plugged in? Do I need to use iTunes to do this?
  10. My wife has an iPhone which is now complaining of no space left. The reason is pretty simple, she has taken a stupidly high amount of pictures/videos and these are eating all the storage up. We do not use ICloud as it is not big enough, but I have installed OneDrive which is uploading all the pictures there. The problem is I don't see a setting like in android which will automatically remove pictures once they are backed up. I must be missing something but what is the easiest way to remove these pictures without going through it manually on the phone?
  11. I had the same, but as I understand it, this is paid time for being "on call" and being "active". This is not the same as being expected to answer emails/messages etc because you have been contacted after hours. I work in a global company which has offices across all time zones. We get plenty of emails out of hours which I do not reply to. However, that is not to say that there has not been an expectancy to provide some response outside of normal working hours. I have worked with people who did not care if it was beyond your working hours because "it needs to be done". What I found more frustrating is the expectations of responding to mail/messages, but very rarely getting a call because it was important. This then leads to a slippery slope where people expect you to monitor emails out of hours "just in case".
  12. Thanks all. This is no longer needed
  13. It wasn't so much a work flow. There were 3 steps. Write down all the tasks you do and then place them on a graph which showed the importance. Then for each task there was graph to put in the amount of time spent performing the task. Lastly there was a graph to show how difficult or how much time would need to be invested into improving the task. The idea was to identify the areas you are spending a lot of time with little importance and see what could be done to reduce the time spent in this area. In the end, the goal was to identify the areas we should be working on as a priority to save time that can be focused elsewhere. I'm pretty sure there are lots of tools to do this. But this particular app allowed you to focus on each part separately so you can evaluate these things independently. Then at the end you bring it all together to see how the task in it's current format is impacting your work.
  14. A few years back, I worked with someone who introduced some method of identifying the tasks being performed, evaluating the time it took, and prioritizing the importance and the difficultly for making changes required. The idea was to create a chart that could be used to identify the areas where you could make the biggest difference/impact relatively quickly. I would like to do something similar, but I can't remember what it was called to see how it was done. Anyone have any ideas what I'm talking about:confused:
  15. There is a QLED 50" Hisense which I am now looking at as it is 200 less than the Samsung model available. I am now starting to think the Samsung model I wanted was on offer as the price jump seems more than I remember!
  16. I am looking for a TV and was asking a few friends who all said they have Samsung and never had a problem. So I was looking primarily at Samsung and found one which ticked all the boxes. Then I started at looking at the difference between models as I do have a budget to consider. My main requirement was 4 HDMI ports, but this became so expensive I will stick to 3. I then looked at QLED and LED and it seems that the colour is the biggest impact. Ideally I wanted QLED (current selection is out of stock) so I started looking at other brands. I can see if I go for other models I can get something cheaper. So my question is this. If I go down the cheaper models, what should I be looking for? I know for Smart TV that there is a lifespan on how long they will be supported, but I have had my current TV for over 10 years and all I am really bothered about is the picture quality and connectivity. I have a PS4 and an old Raspberry Pii which is not used anymore since I can get apps on the PS4 for watching TV. So what is the biggest difference between something like Samsung and Hisense. Is the difference that Samsung offer better support long term? Or is the TV experience better? One thing that does annoy me about my TV is how long it takes to turn on but once it is on it is fine. Just the picture quality is pretty poor. I currently don't take videos at HD, watch Netflix/Disney+ and some sports (but only the bigger events - Like the Euro's due to lack of time.) I know that going to HD will be a big jump from the TV I currently have, so my thinking was, will I get much more out of paying the extra going to QLED. But the other side of me doesn't want to pay for a budget TV, only to think I should have paid a little more in a couple of years time. Budget would be about 500. But you know how it goes, you go into the shop to look at something within budget and the one next to it looks better. Before you know it you are looking at the models 2 times the price!!
  17. This was actually my first question - is this needed in an SOP or should be in a separate document. But I was quickly told this needed to be added into the SOP. We have agreed on using teams not specific roles. Seems there was some "communication breakdown" for what was actually asked. Thanks all!
  18. We are currently updating our SOP and without going into detail we want to add a RACI matrix. The way I understand this is that the teams involved in our process should be included in the RACI matrix so it can be easily identifiable who is responsible etc for each task. However, the request I got was to add the roles within our team into this RACI. I questioned this and got 2 different answers. My opinion is this. The RACI is there to identify the teams involved in the process and their role. If specific tasks are assigned to roles within that team, it will be identified by the job description for that person. If we want to put roles within the team into a RACI matrix, this seems more like an internal document. Thoughts? Should a RACI in an SOP include specific roles within our team, or just reference the teams involved in the tasks we perform? Or am I just over thinking it:getmecoat:
  19. Lol, HDD - didn't even read what I typed!! I did mean SSD, but I have 8GB on my work laptop and find that I am constantly out of memory
  20. I am looking to replace my wife's laptop which is pretty old now. As she mainly uses it for basic work (she is a teacher) preparing resources and general home use. I am not looking to spend a lot of money. However, I don't want to spend about 300 only to have it be as slow as a brick in 2 years time. So I have a budget of about 500 which I hope will get me something good enough for 5 years. I haven't looked at laptops for a long time and my computer is 10 years old so I am not up to date on the latest needs. As far as I know I want 16GB Ram, 500GB HDD, Windows 11. Other than that I am not sure. I see there are mostly i3 at this price, but assume this would be a bottle neck in a few years. What kind of minimum requirements should I be looking at these days?
  21. In the end I got a 27" next to my 24 work monitor. Now I want a second 27" On a more serious note, I am finding it is a huge improvement, but this is probably down to the increase in resolution rather than the size. I would have probably been fine with another 24", but I had some vouchers so went for 27 for no real extra money. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
  22. The monitor I will be replacing is 24 1080p. I am looking to go to 1440p which will match my 2nd one. Although, from what people are saying on here, I think I will be looking at 27" now
  23. I didn't realise a bigger screen was so popular for work!! I always found 2 screens to have more "floor space" than a single large screen. There is no way I can afford a single screen which has the same screen size as 2 duals!!
  24. I prefer 2 dual display to 1 large one to be honest. Especially when it comes to screen sharing over calls. I tend to always use the same monitor to share (I know you can share the windows and I really should start doing this after sharing something I shouldn't have ). I tend to have specific uses for each monitor. And I don't have the room to run 1 large monitor and the 24in one. Plus there is the extra cost of getting the image quality on a larger screen. Monitors being slightly out is OK. Currently mine are as I am not able to adjust the height of mine and I've been working this way over a year. But normally I was like you @Sheridan - I like to have the alignment the same, but it seems if it is slightly out I am now used to it.
  25. I am currently mostly based at WFH and I have a monitor provided by work which is 24in. I also have my own personal one and I currently run a dual monitor setup but since I had this new monitor it has made me realise just how bad mine is. As a result I'm looking to invest in a new monitor and if I was running a single display I would be looking to invest in something a little bigger. However, because I have a work monitor which is 24, I am wondering if I should stick to the same size or I can get a 27in and run both at the same time. I have the space on my desk, but as I have always worked with dual display at 24 in, I am not sure if the difference in size would be something that would be annoying having 2 different sizes and using them everyday. So does anyone have any advice or experience with running dual displays at different sizes? I see many people in the office running with 2 or 3 screens and using their laptop, but the difference between a laptop screen and monitor is far too big for me to use. I am not sure if the difference between 24-27 is something I would notice as much.
