I used a nvr and made my own network cables. Mine do go into the loft that's where I have the nvr. I then have a hdmi cable and a USB cable coming into the bedroom and into the TV.

Hi All, I have a LA switch with Vlan 1 as Admin, Vlan 2 Curric. I have a trunk port on the switch which allows me to have both Vlan1 and 2 on the same port which is great for my wifi. However i then have 2 media converters one for curric and one for admin to the other end of the school. These then go into separate switches. Is there any way i can take an uplink from the Admin switch and a uplink from the curric switch and put them both into the same POE switch and allow the wifi at this end of the school use the VLANS? Thanks in advance.

I have a problem printing all pdfs using adobe reader and the built in. Our users now have to go to print click advanced and then tick print as image otherwise it jams the print queue on the local computer and server until the computer is restarted.

We have just got sims agora but we have had sims dinner money for a while now!! The only thing I hate about sims agora is when you generate the whole school reference numbers they need to be used within 30 days. If they don't use them you have to extend the expiry date. You can do this one at a time and the reference remains the same but if you do them all at once it regenerates a new reference for everyone meaning you may have to send new letters again. If you want to know anything just let me know and I will try to answer the best I can.

At the moment I just want a report in date order showing me what is there. As it's folders inside folders and so on. It's a total mess!

Hi All, Is there any software out there or anyway of finding out dates in which things have been created or last used? What i am trying to do is we have a share that is over 1TB in size and there is no need for it to be this big. I am trying to find out a full report that will tell me how long things have been on there and when they were last used. We are going to say to staff anything over 5 years old is going to be deleted. I have seen some files in there from 2001!! Thanks

The Paxton controller can link to the fire alarm to sense when the alarm goes off this will send the alert to all other controllers and tell the doors to open. However the correct way to set it up is to have a normally closed relay from the fire alarm and link it to the live on the door lock. So that when the fire alarm goes off it cuts the pose to the door lock. You can use Paxton compact relays to do this. You can also wire it so that if you have a fail secure lock when the fire alarm goes off it will put power to the lock to make it open. I am fitting my first few systems on Friday once school closes. These are the first installs I have done since becoming an installer so I will let you all know how it goes.

Yes that's correct. However I asked if we had an old system and I replace it with a new one do I need to link it into the fire alarm. The answer was as long as I only change the controller and the reader and I don't touch the lock, exit button or break glass it still meets the old regulation.

I am waiting for this as an email off our fire officer. I have not read the fire regulations I have just asked our fire officer.

@FN-GM from what I have been told by a fire inspector it is not allowed unless all you network cables are fire proof but this will also stop working if the network is down or the server is on fire. I was told also that on new doors you need both a break glass and exit button but they also must be linked to the fire alarm. If it's an old door and already has a break glass and exit button but no link to the fire alarm then that is fine as that used to be the standards before regulations changed. My argument is that if the fire alarm goes wrong or the Paxton box went on fire then of course the door would then close again unless it's a fail safe lock or a mag lock. My next argument is if the fire alarm goes off and then the doors open the building won't be secure unless there is a lock on the door. Also we have a ASD base. If a fire alarm goes off and the doors open there is a chance a child could get out. How hard is it to press an exit button or break glass? Children would always be with staff anyway.

Up to now we only have 2 doors on our system and we have to normally closed relays coming from the fire panel. But they are really close to the fire panel. We are installing more which are far away from the fire panel and we are going to try and come off the fire alarm sounder as this would meet regulation. If your building is old and has a emergency break glass door release and a push to exit button by a door we have been told you don't have to link these doors as they where fitted before the fire regulations changed. It only has to link to the fire alarm if you are fitting to new doors.

The only problem with doing this is that it does not meet fire regulations. As if the server goes down or a switch then it will close all the doors. I have just became a Paxton advanced installer and I am currently installing a system at my school.

I am a full time primary technician / IT manager. I really enjoy it. I worked in a high school and for the local authority but never learnt as much as I have now. We have 4 servers, hyper v and smoothwall. I built everything from scratch after dealing with a big mess when I first started. I have just recently started installing door access for the school as well which in a high school they would probably just get someone else in to do it. I feel I have learnt so much that will help me with my career moving forward.

Layer 2 with router. So would I make say the uplink port a trunk and then make the uplink port a member of both VLan 1 and Vlan 2?

Hi all, I'm struggling a little with vlans. I have a Cisco switch which has 2 vlans one for curriculum network one for admin network VLAN 1 - admin VLAN 2 - curriculum I have a trunk port which is a member of both. What I am trying to do is run a cable from the trunk port on the Cisco to a zyxel gs1900 8hp then I am trying to make every port on the zyxel trunk ports so they are a member of both networks so I can add wireless access points.

I have sorted it and got it to work! The nightmare was our Cisco switch which is managed by the local authority is configured to have the admin network on vlan 1 and the curriculum on vlan 2. However on a unifi ap you can't set anything on vlan 1.

Hi All, I am wondering if anyone has set up a unifi wireless with separate SSIDs and separate vlans. Our network is split up by a Cisco switch and 2 vlans 1 for admin 1 for curriculum. I am hoping to have a trunk port from the Cisco to the POE then on the access point have school name admin connected to vlan 1 which is the admin vlan on the Cisco and school name curric connected to vlan 2 which is the curriculum vlan on the Cisco. Would this work or am I missing a whole lot of config on the POE switch? Is this even possible?

My unattended file was the problem. I picked up the windows 7 one!

I have just imaged all our computers and laptops with Windows 10 enterprise LTSB up to now no issues at all. So much easier to build an image and not have to remove all the rubbish.

I added my ovs ees agreement number to my rds and it worked and added cals to it however we did not pay for them. I spoke to Phoenix software and they said it was fine and legit!
