  1. One of the crap features that we use in Inventry is the cloud based Club Reg App so that we can record who is in afterschool clubs, so still on site. Is there an alternative to this that links to SIMS and is easy for staff to set up and use?
  2. Yes, I have put the firewall rules in as per the web link. Still getting the Access Denied error.
  3. I am trying to install SIMS on to a PC in a primary school. The school does not have a domain. Every time I try to install the agent via SOLUS I get an access denied error. I have turned off both the firewall and AV software. The server and client machine can see each other, they are on the same subnet. I can install the Agent manually, which goes through, but then will not install SIMS and I get the same Access Denied error under the agent tab in Solus. I am using the right username/password for the client that is a local administrator. I have tried various ways of inputting the username (machinename\user, user). I am missing something that is probably simple but can't see it. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I went from v5 to v6 over summer as v5 doesn't support Win10 clients with the Paxton USB card reader we have. Backed up the DB and ran the upgrade over the top. It all went extremely smoothly and is working well.
  5. Hi everybody, A long shot I know but maybe worth it in this forum. My DH has bought himself a printer on EBay!! The first I knew was when it turned up and he asked me to install it. He has bought it from some guy who deals in printers. It has been serviced by a company called CSL who had a maintanance contract with the last owner. Unfortunately for me the last owner has changed both the admin passcode and the CE code. It is also set up to authenticate via a papercut server. The default codes i have tried are 12345678 and 1234567812345678 I have also gone to the engineers settings and tried the two CE codes 92729272 and 9272927292729272 none of which work. I need to clear both the admin and CE codes from the machine and wipe it but obviously can't do that. So this EBay seller has asked me to contact CSL to get name of the last company, which he believes to be a school in Leicester. CSL obviuosly cannot give out this info due to data protection. I was wondering/hoping that such a school may be a member of this forum. So if you are from Leicester and had a Bizhub C3350 printer on a maintenance contract with CSL and have recently disposed of it please get in touch. If we can't get in to it then it will be sent back for a refund. Thanks in advance Paul
  6. I just created a custom MMC for teachers to use. https://www.itprotoday.com/strategy/creating-custom-password-reset-mmc
  7. Hi Chaniel, Yes it is using a mandatory profile and yes it works without it! Good call, many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Brain freeze, sometimes you just need a second pair of eyes.
  8. I am getting a very strange problem with a new Windows 10 build.I, as Domain Admin, can log in to the PC, staff can log in, but when I try a student account I get the error message "We can't sign in to your account" picture below. Not even a temporary profile is created. I thought it was a Group Policy but I have tried it with only the default domain policy applied and still get the issue. It must be a permission issue, the student account works fine on our Window 7 machines. I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.
  9. I get the same on my domain. I suspect it is one bad policy causing the issue, probably a software install. I would be interested if there is an "easy fix" for it though
  10. I am having an issue with windows 10 laptop sync. We use folder redirection to redirect the desktop et al and the Documents folder to a server share. The documents folder does go to a different share, but I don’t think that is the issue. Offline files are set via GPO. It all works well with the exception that on logging in when online the only folder that does not automatically sync is the documents folder. It remains “separate” until a manual “sync” using the context menu option of “SYNC>Sync selected offline files” is run. All other offline files, both on the desktop and in mapped drive very quickly sync up. Any suggestions as to why the documents folder is not automatically updating. Even going to the sync centre and using sync now does not sync the documents folder.
  11. How would you ensure that work is synced to a mapped home drive on a file server in school?
  12. As I actually live with a beautiful view of Pendle Hill from the front of my property it was a great shame to see that it was not Pendle Hill that was shown. I believe it was actually filmed somewhere down south. What a shame as Pendle Hill is majestic, mysterious and beautiful in all seasons.
  13. As an aside we bought quite a few Lenovo laptops and found that we couldn't use KMS to activate them as the BIOS was an OEM one and would only accept MAK keys. How do you volume activate your laptops?
  14. You run Sysprep with the /generalize option (hate the american spelling!) then if you are using the volume licensing version of Windows it should just find your KMS server for both Windows and Office.
  15. How is this a level 3 job? ICT Technician level 3 is a pay grade 6 (SCP 26 - 30). This job is at pay grade 5 (SCP 22 - 25) and pro rata! RMBC Pay & Grading should put this at Level 2 which is pay grade 5.
  16. Please note that Redwood School is a Secondary Special School
