I am constantly amazed at the number of times we seem to jump through hoops to create a technical solution to replace a users responsibility to plan/remember/realise!! DOH! now I feel better -
Social Media Monitoring/Listening
lyricalway replied to SpaceInvader83's topic in How do you do....it?
I use Hootsuite to monitor mentions etc. However this is extremely difficult as there are massive amounts of mentions of rugby clubs/cricket clubs/stag weekends and God knows what else using part of our domain name!! -
Don't know about yours, but on ours if the Powerpoints are uploaded to Google Drive, when the users logs into their drive on the Interactive Screen and opens the Powerpoint it plays on the board. So - no need to abandon their Powerpoints.

We use bluepoint.net....generally good prices, wide choice, quick delivery and will hunt around on your behalf for a decent bulk order.

If Tesco think that the only reason people shop at Aldi & Lidl is low price, then they just don't get it. In point of fact neither do the "media", who constantly refer to Aldi & Lidl as "discounters". Most shop there for quality products at a consistently fair price - not low price = low quality - Micky Mouse promotions - etc!

I see that that would be a problem if the classroom was a classroom within the schools domain, but these would be nothing to do with the school. It is then simply a matter of classroom management by you and/or the teacher. If you were really unhappy you could block the url.

I am not sure what you think is an issue? Surely this is no different to a student setting up, at home, a blog/personal website/forum whatever?

What actually needs encrypting?
lyricalway replied to enjay's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Teachers here use Chromebooks and access their files from Google Drive. Secure, encrypted, and data compliant. -
It's just good old drag 'n drop :-)

New GDPR statement from Capita re SIMS
lyricalway replied to pete's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
I notice we can't even rely on them to spell correctly LOL [h=2] "SECRUITY: How does the system ensure the security of the personal data held? What recognised standards are in place?"[/h] -
Almost everything the students and their class teachers do is done in the Google Cloud 'tis true. Admin users on the other hand still need (want?) to use Office, and FileStream facilitates that easily. It also allows Publisher, Adobe, and Sibelius files to be stored in the cloud, but used in desktop Applications. Oh and with regard to mavhc's comment the bandwidth is negligible and way cheaper than local file storage!

If you download Drive FileStream for Windows then you do not need to sync or convert files ie. MS Office files just open in Office....all without taking up precious file storage.

BBC iPlayer signin for schools and colleges?
lyricalway replied to Trevelyan's topic in Licensing Questions
I have tried today and all I had to do was tick "I have a TV license" ?? -
Ah I see...we use RMUnify, so all accounts get created and SSO taken care of. We don't attempt to map shared areas as we use Citrix to open a Windows desktop if that is required.

Yep...all the time. I wonder why you ask?

Projectors Vs. Interactive TVs
lyricalway replied to stevenlong1985's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
When I look back through support tickets the vast majority were for issues related to sound/projector/IWB. Since replaced by Interactive LCD panel - almost zero. So IMO it is a no brainer! -
Selling second hand Clevertouch boards
lyricalway replied to mundlim's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Have you considered RM EasiTeach. We have a site licence and it works on any brand of board giving a consistency to teachers moving around the classrooms, some with projector/IWB, some with Interactice LCD panels. -
Personally I use generic LCD panel boards rather than the big names like promethean/clevertouch/smart, after all the panels are all made in the same factories in China. I have an RM EasiTeach site licence so that teachers use the same software whatever the brand of board, LCD or IWB, in all locations.
