Hi , Just jumping on here - I am having the issues with software installation GPO's as well and have read through the thread and tried all the suggestions with no luck. The set up is : 2 dc's and a fileserver. The software seemed to be going out fine when I first set up the GPO's ( the msi's had to sit on one of the dc's for it to work. But it was working. Only a few machines were not behaving.. Had some DNS issues - which have now been sorted. Also have installed Sophos. Now I am getting the Network not present or not started on RSOP. Sometimes I get the restart needed as software install pending , but then it reverts back to network not present again after several reboots. I can manually install the software from the msi location The software folder where the msi's are have full rights to authenticated users The policy is applied at PC level ou As I said the GPO's were working fine so not sure what has changed to make it now stop working other than the DNS issue that I had , but since sorted and I believe Sophos rolling out... Would Sophos stop the software from installing and give the network not present/started error? Any other advice much appreciated! Flushed dns and restarted a gazillion times - have also

Thanks for all prompt replies - much appreciated ! :-) - Ok so , Some of the clients were connecting to network 2 instead of the school domain. And when I did ipconfig all it was coming up with the DNS server as DNS1. Not in school now ( have to leave by 3.30 during hols) but, I believe that that the old server is a member server ( in think done by joining the domain?) of the new dc2. I checked the name servers in dns on both dc2 and dc3 and made sure that any references to DNS1 FQDN was removed ...do I need to take off dc1 as a member server? Sorry to be so dim about this :-/

Hi, Hoping this is something quite quick for someone to point me in the right place to look: I have recently set up (with lots of help) 2 dc's that are replicated and both running dns.. I have turned off the old dc that was running the original dns -lets call it 1 and then new ones are 2 and 3. some of my clients are still picking up dns 1 instead of 2 or 3 even with server 1 turned off - how is this possible? I am doing flushdns on the affected clients - they may revert back to 2 /3 but then for some reason will go back to 1?... ( I am building a suite of machines so multiple reboots... ) Any ideas where it may be getting the old dns from ?.... Thanks if this is a really simple question and for your patience with help....

Well .. got past the updates search hanging to now getting [h=1]WindowsUpdate_80072EE2 error instead -no amount of googling helps find an answer -I'm sure there was a fix on the microsoft page but the download isn't there anymore... [/h]any ideas?

Thanks for all the tips guys - I will try logging on as a different user and the hot fixes. The laptop is cabled in so speed wise should be ok... Shut down button showing nothing... Thanks again! Just remembered as writing this - changed servers about a month back now - will also check that the laptop is not using the old dns setting... Doh! Comment about speed just jogged that memory... Thank you!

Any ideas on why it keep searching for updates but not moving past it? Left a 64bit, Windows 7 SP1 running overnight :-/

Hi zero hour - i didn't set it up so not sure but will take a look tomorrow . The set up is 2dc's replicated. The fileserver across both dc's (all 3 virtual) The backup server is a physical server and with a tape drive. The backup was setup on the fileserver to write to the tape drive (shared tape drive folder ) and a user setup with rights to that user folder specifically for doing the backups. So , would changing the dc password affect the relationship between the fileserver and the backup server? Sorry if a bit garbled - all new to me! Thanks for the help

Have just noticed that my Windows server backup has not been working for a few days . Have just set up a hyper v setup with 2x dc's a file server and a physical backup server. The file server was happily backing up to the backup server . But , and this is the only thing I can remember changing , I changed the domain administrator password ( the dc's are replicated) (I set up a backup operator user to access the folder before) And the error message I am getting is specified remote shared folder is not accessible. Any ideas? Had to leave the premises before I could do any more trouble shooting but planning to go in tomorrow to resolve :-/ ( or at the very least do a manual backup till resolved ) Any tips ideas to try for tmw much appreciated! Hi , a Mac is added to AD and users are using the AD login and password to login to Mac. What happens 1)when user changes password on the Mac ? 2)when user changes password on Windows machines and then uses that new password on a Mac Asking because the Mac has keychain to update and I have had 2 macs not work and have to create new AD username for a user Thanks in advance

I have just rebuilt a Genee board ops unit and have added to the domain. Not sure if this is an isolated issue ( have another 26 boards that are currently standalone) But : the Genee board turns off the ops unit whenever the logon lock screen kicks in. Checked all the power settings - local and gpo . Hard drive is set to never go off. But need to be able to have the screen lock to logon screen after certain time. Wanted to resolve this issue before building the other boards. ( Windows 7 pro Sp1) Thanks in advance

So, finally got round to putting this in action. I have an issue where I have Dep approved supplier id's for half of my iPads but not the other half - need to find out where they were bought etc ... So , if I can't get the dep from supplier - what would be the best way to deploy the half that aren't dep enrolled? (That would equate to Around 140 iPads) Thanks in advance

That's great- thank you! I've kinda done step 1 and 2 the other way round - IE downloaded and installed new VPP token into Lightspeed, but only because the one on Meraki has now expired so needed renewing anyway. So, with playing around , have discovered that any pre installed apps on iPads do appear but they remain unmanaged. So, following on from your advice, my plan now is to revoke the licence from every app. Wipe all the iPads, Enroll onto Lightspeed and then re assign the apps The anomaly with the original set up is that every app is licensed to just one user and that user then buts however many x licences we need to deploy. So wasn't sure if I would lose stuff by revoking or doing something in the wrong order. But I think now this will work ? and at least I will know exactly where and how many licences have been used etc... Thanks again

Hi, doing something similar, with an inherited system. But moving from meraki to Lightspeed and using Apple configurator . So would appreciate and info on this. Here's what I think needs to happen : revoke VPP from Meraki, install into Lightspeed. But don't understand how the apps will transfer. New to ac and want to push apps out from Lightspeed to avoid having iPads in every time apps are added. We have 300 iPads .. Any advice appreciated.

Hi TT, I was under the impression that VPN was a secure way to remote onto e.g server . I often have to do this and didn't want to do it via a public IP address as I feel that that would not be secure ... Open to being corrected :-)

Hi Geeky Pete, Thank you so much for the info - I'm actually running on server 2012 - we were running cc4 but rebuilt the server due to virus and took the opportunity to go vanilla.... Do you know how I can translate this to server 2012? and would the fire wall setting be for the laptop running the client or the server end? Thanks again!

Hi All, I am trying to run E1 from the server and have a client connect up to it from a laptop. Server and client enterprise files have been installed and all working ok on the server end, but having problems connecting from the client. The laptop can't see/ find the server on port 1200. The installation guy has said that he thinks we need to have a firewall rule for port 1200 - but he is not sure how/what exactly. And after our virus attack I'm reluctant to let anything in / out without being 100% sure. Does any one have any experience of this?... Advice? Thank you in advance
