  1. Used CC, Ranger, CSE, Burconix and gone Vanilla always depends what you do and want to do in school as IT roles can be really diverse and can be involved in many areas to different extent to be honest the best I have used has been and is Burconix doesn't sort of take over and sort of make you learn a whole host of new software but just adds some simple to use tools that builds on and adds to Windows Vanilla functionality so speeding up and making easier Management of the Network, tools are extremely stable and always new functionality is being added to enhance the already excellent features currently working on linking to SIM's to add various extra functionality as well as other additional features.
  2. Could try these BCX Management Tools from Burconix I know they have a few primaries using this. Sit pretty seamlessly on a Windows Network and just add extra set of tools to make things easier, Software Deployment, printer Deployment, Station Rebuild, User creation, scheduling etc.
  3. This sort of came out by accident in my case I was asked if I could cover for our Data Manager who was sort of retiring so had reduced working days and we were having difficulties replacing her. So at a Curriculum Meeting because the Data Manager was off staff were sort of complaining that they couldn't access their data as the Data Manager usually printed this for them so Head said can you devise system so staff can easily access this so created an App and linked all Department data to this exported from SIM's which has now sort of developed into its own Web based system for Data analysis and Intervention system linked with data auto extracted from SIM's and automatically analysed. So Head said was their anything else I could think of so we setup remote access system so Staff and Students could access all work and systems externally better productivity, logging to see how much this is being used, approx. 24,000 logins a year. Worked with Departments to make resources were put on our VLE for students, analysis on usage etc which was fed back to SLT and SLT followed up where this wasn't being used. Parental Pages on the school website, Parent Forum, Curriculum information which is updated each Term to make sure Parents are aware of what is going on with Student Curriculum, homeworks etc Parental Portal use Insight so Parents and Students can see Attendance, Behaviour, Exams, Reports, Options and looking at linking in Assessment system. Also saved money less Paper Reports as now nearly all on line. Student and Parent Voice surveys and analysis of this Parent Voice again on Website and Students Survey analysis go to Departments to look at improvements and again SLT look at any issues raised from this, we use Survey Monkey which saves time. We also usually do Parent Surveys on Parents Evening and offer Parents any advice on using Parental Portal or other systems and deal with any issues they may be having. I do a sort of yearly report to SLT and Governors on all this and anything else we are looking at, this also highlights where IT funding is going. Obviously if already using some of these could just highlight this to Head that if these are used well have an impact on Teaching and Learning.
  4. Cheers Vic will give this a go and thanks for your help much appreciated as always
  5. Then having a quick look might try Mailmerge output and see if I can create report using this method and add the blank fields etc.
  6. Cheers Vic had the first bit but the Lessons bit pointed me in the right direction and gave me idea so below almost gets me their and use Filtered report and enter at Runtime so they can enter student name, day and have used Define sort order on the filter and use and remove tick from Include Record with no such lessons, gets me student with lessons for just that day in reasonable format, see below.
  7. Cheers Vic think have looked at the Classes Report you mean and this almost gets me there just not quite the format I want not sure what you mean by UDG though.
  8. Hi Vik Your right it is almost their using this method but not quite, have tried it three ways through Individual Reports, constructing Report from Scratch and as you said through Student List\Time Table and this is the closest and has the actual fields but what I am after is sort of Specific Student Classes with Teacher for Monday one Report, Specific Student Classes for Tuesday Second Report etc would sort of add blank boxes so they could just add info they would then just Print Individual Students for students in Refocus that's why I thought Individual Reports would be easy if that makes sense. I could as you say use Student List\Time Table and sort of hack this but as it is only going to be few different kids each day would be Time consuming. The other way I have just thought of is sort of exporting and Mail merging from Student List and they just select the Students and print those but this would possibly get out of date with new Students or Time Table changes saying that though I could possibly just export the data periodically and Mail Merge would update when run with new data what do you think. Just a shame I can't do this in Individual Reports as that would defiantly be the easiest way if I could link the Data how I needed. Cheers Vic if you can think of anything else.
  9. Hi I am just wondering if the following is feasible in SIM's individual reports what I want to do is create a Student Report that can populate a Student, Teacher and Class for lessons so something like the below; Student Name Period1 Period2 Period3 Period4 Period5 ICT/Y1 Eng/Y1 Geog/Y2 RE/Y2 PE/Y2 J. Doe M.Brown T.Smith J.Jones H.White So I am struggling to see how to sort of create Class Slots and associate this with whatever subject a student is doing. The idea of this is we can use it for refocus run this for the Students in Refocus and add what work needs to be completed for the students in Refocus for specific subjects.
  10. Oh dear feel for their customers, hopefully someone is taken to task at RBS for this.

  12. Is the way I sort of take it so something you have and something you know, we use Encrypted App First Factor and Username and Password second Factor as our LEA were not keen on us accessing SIM's without Dual Factor although this was a few years ago now and they have mellowed a bit, but the solution they were offering was expensive.
  13. Just wondering if anyone is using Dual Factor Authentication with this as our LEA sort of weren't happy when we were talking about Remote Access to MIS systems so had to build Dual Factor into our own system and I know another school in the borough are using Azure for dual factor. Obviously is only a consideration and is entirely up to the school.
  14. Built this using C# in Visual Studio 2010 if you PM am happy to send you the code, you could probably make it look prettier or add as much as you want from the basic code just compiles into exe.
  15. See below Tool Bar and second one is just one I created to link data for staff for easy access although we use our own web based system for analysis now so is an old link if makes sense but just shows the sort of thing and can easily link them together.
  16. Created my own app sort of Floating Tool Bar using Visual Studio was pretty easy really we have one for Staff, one for Students and for Admins with most things each uses Apps and websites.
  17. What about Nova satelite on the laptop for contractor.
  18. Hi The LEA updated my Solus clients yesterday to 3.7.147.0 and pushed out the SIM's ugrade which upgraded the SIM's Server this afternoon which has upgraded ok but the SIM's Clients don't seem to be upgrading and when I look at a client and Solus on the clients it says there are no updates to install, the stations usually start to update straight away. When I check Solus 3 Deployment Server UI I can see that the Solus Clients 3.7.147.0 was installed on PC's yesterday but can't see any Deployment info for the SIM's upgrades to clients still but can see some info on Discover Clients being upgraded. Could this be a schedule thing and where do I check this or has the Upgrade not been set to Deploy on the Solus 3 Deployment Server UI and where do I check this. I usually leave all this to LEA as it has worked pretty seamlessly in the past. I have manually updated SIM's on a couple of PC's and these seem ok.
  19. I have been using PARS.NET in two schools over the last 10 years and also using Insight and looking at another product they are developing called Cura and the products and support from TASC Software has been brilliant. We only recently upgraded to new version of PARS.NET as I had stayed on the old version for some time at the time we looked at PARS Connect but couldn't really see that the extra functionality unless we were looking at using the Seating Planner would be worth the additional cost as we were sort of being recommended PAR Connect for Teachers and PAR.NET for admin so would have mean't a fairly substantial increase in our yearly costs. Obviously the big benefit with PARS Connect was if staff want to be able to access PARS from home or mobile devices as is web based etc but if a school has its own remote access system this sort of isn't as much of a benefit. In regards to speed it did seem a little slower when we tried it as a test but I hadn't particularly beefed up the Server as we were only trying it with a few users.
  20. If it is just monitoring PC's, blocking or restricting Apps viewing screens, taking control of Screens and few other things ABtutor might be worth a look, pretty reasonable cost.
  21. Virtualised here on Xen , 12 Gb Ram , Full SQL 2012, 8 Cores , completely agree with Vikpaws comment about being able to snapshot whole server in case upgrade failure which I always tend to do and takes a couple of minutes.. Was many years ago but have had an upgrade failure and it was a big upgrade so LEA had come into perform this and the backup performed that it usually performs prior to the upgrade had failed as well but had no warning of this luckily I was concerned about the upgrade so had stopped the SQL Service and took Copies of ldf and mdf which sort of saved us some major issues.
  22. Vikpaw as always is correct can't do offline and isn't an App just links to web interface but as he says is a good option is a demo site that you can login to have a look at PARS Connect Username: Blacka Password: abcd.If you want to have a look and as Vikpaw says good company with great products and support. They also have a Parental Portal called Insight which we have been using for a few years and which has been excellent and they also have a demo site for this.
  23. In essence PARS Connect sits on its own IIS Server and I am not sure it has offline capabilities as you would need to be able to Connect to the IIS Server.
  24. Another option might be PARS Connect this would allow you to take registers, add behaviour and achievement and much more. This might do what your after.
