  1. This is strange, it was plugged directly into a switch when it wasn't working. I plugged it into a port in the room (which goes back to the same cabinet) and it started working. Baffled. Thanks for your help!
  2. Hi, I have a Meru AP822i AP that has been offline for a while due to building refurb. I've just plugged it back in and the lights are stuck on alternating green/white - "AP is discovering the controller". Anyone have any ideas how to get past this? The controller & APs are on a totally flat network - no VLANS.
  3. Exactly the same issue we have here, the Head of Trust IT Services, IT Services Manager (myself) plus all technicians are in the same office. - Can't do any of the "management" bits because of the constant interruption by students/staff. Although the technicians handle the foot traffic/phone traffic brilliantly, inevitably if you are in the room you can't get away! Although sometimes i admit it's nice to do a bit of helpdesk to bring things back down to earth!
  4. Always had an IT Office space, typically the issue is keeping it secure as some teachers manage to get a key that gets in so they can help themselves to things. Currently at my main site i share an office with the Head of Trust IT Services and fellow technicians. Also very lucky that at other sites they are happy to provide an IT Office space (albeit small) even though we aren't there 24/7! We explain that it's important that we can have somewhere to jump on a computer or make repairs, especially as some of our schools are special schools so its a huge no-no to take anything apart in a classroom!
  5. Totally agree ^^^^
  6. I was in a similar situation back in 2015 when i joined a network manager who had just taken over from a managed IT service. People didn't trust IT staff one bit and felt that if they did bother to submit a ticket, it wouldn't get done anyway! I found the best thing to do is to just get on with the job for a while, then ask for feedback later. Once people see what a great job you are doing, they'll be singing your praises anyway. Fast forward to 2017 and i was in the same school, a new deputy head starts and he has an axe to grind - so we send out a survey, and since the reputation had improved so much, he didn't have a leg to stand on! 8. Hi, I'm part of a Multi-Academy Trust with several schools. I've managed to set up a Mac Mini Server with Profile Manager at a Secondary School and enrolled the iPads belonging to a local primary school. Whilst they were here they pulled down the correct configuration profile and apps. The trouble is, now that the iPads have gone back to the Primary School, they don't receive any of the new apps i'm pushing from the server that is based at the Secondary School. Our local council have configured a NAT address for our mac server so we are able to access it externally. They've confirmed all the ports are open for Apple Push Notifications. There must be something i've not configured but i can't work out what! Please help!
  9. So i've exported a class list from SIMS to IE 11.0.9600.18204, i need to export it to Excel (2013) so i right click Export to "Microsoft Excel". When i click nothing happens I went to attempt the workaround on this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/826917 - but there is no such thing as MenuExt in the registry. I've tried repairing office and uninstalling re-installing. Pulling my hair out here!
