Why are Apple adding a pen or a keyboard? Its a touch device, its designed for fingers, its a very refined design. Its not like they've gone, ooo, this hasnt worked, lets go back a step whilst we finger it out. If they are doing it for enterprise folks who need a pen in their hand to function or run an app that needs a keyboard, chances are the Apple SoC wont be beefy enough to run it or be able to support the legacy that are designed for x86 cpu. I get it for microsoft - they are the half way point of legacy and innovation, but Apple doesnt have that legacy requirement, they aint chained down. Just odd, its like a first stab at breaking Job rule about no touch screens on a macbook/imac

Interesting they gave it a keyboard and pen to try and get business involved and it isnt a i5, which is odd, are they saying all the enterprise legacy apps are gone (and web based) and they're just missing a keyboard?? Still then it'll be a macbook... Yer, odd.

So you basically you have John Smith, who is a parent and a teacher Work email: [email protected] Home email: [email protected] You want the parent related stuff to go to home and the work\teacher stuff to go to his work email address. InTouch only uses the "Is Primary" contacts - which you can only set on EITHER work or home BUT NOT BOTH. So I would guess set the primary on the home and then the question is how do you set staff messages to use the work email, regardless of the Is Primary in InTouch? Besides switching to @Schoolcomms

I personal got a cheap £200 tosh with win8.1 pro with downgrade rights to 7 pro, I've upgraded to 10 as well, swapped the hdd out for a SSD and added another 4gb ram. Performance wises it's pretty impressive especially as it's only a celeron. The only problem is the touch pad is pants - which seems to be a common problem with cheap laptops, luckily it's easy fixed with a sub mouse. toshiba like Lenovo have pretty good keyboards which is key (snigger) as this tends to be most people's biggest complaint other then performance. Like others have said, they be find for general IT stuff, not photoshop etc. We've got to the stage where our entry level machines are pretty impressive, the key is SSD - which is a shame hw manufacturers haven't accepted - guess it's harder to prove a £700 machine is better than a £200 to joe public if they both have SSD. The only other thing I'll say is if you by entry level, you need a more frequent refresh cycle, you can really plan to keep it for 5 years, it should be 2 - will ignore the fact you'll still be rocking them in 6years

Yer, was talking to one of the S3 devs today about it and it sounds like a real winner as it gets over the bug with reinstalling assuming you don't change hw. Next step would be auto adding to channels. Personally I'd either ditch sims or get the teacher app so the fat client is only on desktops

There is a bit of a difference between recycling by-product (heat) and have a large scale heating system. Still I'll give you credit - first time I've heard someone make a point about Russia being better!!

Well I can only give my opinion... but I'd wouldn't be giving permissions for my sons data to be use if it was me as parent and if it was my work, I'd be gathering written "are you sure" from SLT to cover myself. I appreciate Capita charge £2.5k to get a copy of the training database - but it does show your commitment to it - I'm not saying your developing on whatever county's hardware, but you are working on live data. You could also generate dummy data. At the moment it sounds like you've sold vapourware. RE: UPN - my understanding is if you're not cross ref'ing the data - ie across schools, using the UPN isn't allowed to be used. Period. Your excuse of "its under dev" - goes back to the dummy\training data point. Sure? Have they seen Discover? Have you seen some of the 100's of products already out that produce special reports? Chances are they have, they just don't want to pay the fees

Beyond the VAT issues - isn't buying off eBay \ an auction site pretty risky? I mean just because your school has a credit card and you can buy from anyone who accepts VISA or whatever, it doesn't mean you should. It's very risky?, I mean you basically buy it sold as seen, you also don't know where it came from, ie is it stolen, a factory reject, whatever. Personally if its a company, nothing stopping you contact them directly and cutting out eBay and raising a PO like normal. It'll cut out the eBay \ Paypal charges - so I'd be worried if they won't want to do it. As its public money anyone could put a FOI about the purchase and inquire what safeguards were\are in place to reduce\remove the risk and I'm not sure I could find a good enough deal to make the risk worthwhile - this is especially true for Academies as they can't hide behind the Local Authority. Still buying a table is one thing...

Check with your bursar\get them to check with your finance team - but pretty sure schools can't buy off eBay (or other auction sites).
