Just a flip on this - what's the disaster recovery for an on-prem MIS? What happens if the server room catches fire for example but the rest of the building is fine? No-one stores spare paper\toner in the server room do they?

Sorry, was thinking more in terms of FMS integration with SIMS - ie what would stop you leaving SIMS. Of course can import rec files, do BACS etc

Personally I've not heard of a good FMS replacement, horrid as FMS is. SIMS \ FMS integration is only personnel? Pretty sure they did some work ages ago so FMS integrates with non-SIMS systems. Not sure I've heard of anyone doing it however, but it should be possible to integrate your HR\payroll system or whatever.

Might want to speak with @GREED re: GroupCall. Not used SIMS\ONE for years, I've heard its got better, but its still in the dark ages from the rest of the world.

Key is to make sure you have an API or something that you can use before you purchase.

I agree moving to the cloud is a good idea for primary schools as it cuts costs (among other things), but a £11k in savings per school per year? I'm not sure I know many schools who spend more than £5k a year on SIMS and all the expensive bolt-ons in total, so how do they get £11k in savings?

Sounds like AVCO AnyComms. It can help automated some of the pain. B2B is just a webservice at the end of the day, admittedly it has elements of vendor lock-in, but these aren't things that should limit schools choices of MIS systems. After all the LA job is to serve schools, not the other way around.

Groupcall is full automated. You can use AnyComms if you want to. Look up B2B open. It's B2B but it's designed for non-SIMS schools.

Afraid not - data is from DfE, when you submit the census has has a field for the MIS system that was used to generated the return. We do it via WhatDoTheyKnow so it stops us duplicating requests to the DfE for the same data and most importantly it saves having to bug every single school. Still the DfE have said this data cannot be released as it is commercially sensitive - you can't make it up! - https://data.gov.uk/data-request/software-supplier-school

I’m no legal expert, but could you explain to me a lawful reason why you are storing the full history of a student who left say 15 years ago? Then repeat that question but rather then an individual, for everyone who’s be through the school system. Isn’t bulk storage/processing frond upon nowadays? I can imagine staff/parents who return to the school not wanting folks to find out about minor instances that happen when they were a pupil at the school, invoking the right to forget for example. Again, no legal expert. Just curious how it’s going to be dealt with, we’ve being asking for this for years and years - got to be over 6 years now (also glad to be in the non-education, B2B market now so it’s a lot easier lol)

Speaking of GDPR, I'm looking forward to how SIMS is going to handle the right to erasure. Not saying it keeps everything, but when you're measuring history in generations you know you've database is going to shrink

Have you tried reinstalling SIMS .net? How did you install SIMS .net, can you get logged in ok on the client.

Surely it will be on the action of the alert Phil. The alert surely will just have room, staff member and time. So it won't be recorded against the child because no child name is on the alert.

You will want less cores as its generally cheaper to license per core vs CALs. Also faster cores vs more cores. You'll want Standard edition. Why do you have a DVD drive? And you'll want SSD not spinning rust. Are you virtualizing? Also licensing question should be directed at your account manager as they know the details - and can give you actual costs vs ballpark. EDIT: "you'll need your FTE count for CALs" - ooo... sounds like a better option maybe?

propagate? It's querying the database surely? Have you tried updating it, restarting the computer then checking its still set?

Set it on one, then go to the other computer and see if its still set be the easiest way.
