@psydii I wouldn't worry about CPU speeds too much, so long as its a modern CPU you'll be fine. If you're using SQL standard, local SSD and have half decide CPU and RAM and you're still having performance problems it normally means you need to do a bit of maintenance, once upon a time there was a really good document on SupportNet that detailed how to setup a SQL Agent job that rebuilds the indexes, stats, and runs the SIMS specific things like archive attendance marks etc.

Hope the ICT provider had indemnity insurance.

Actually if you did use the Parent App, SSM would be sync'ing the data up to Capita, so couldn't Capita just dump it back? Ooo be worth someone asking for a data dump to see what's actually sync'd.

Get your MIS hosted or at the very least make sure you now have a working backup, then hire temps to re-key information. ...but how would you set the parents up. You've got none of their contact details.

Sounds like you now have two SOLUS3 servers- rather then 1 server and 2 clients ???? If that is correct, that's pretty poor service from Capita!

You know SQL 2019 has just been announced and the preview version released? SQL 2017 gets a new CU pretty much every month which needs applying. You can't escape upgrades. Why do you think schools are moving to SaaS MIS systems - basically where the MIS supplier manages all the never ending upgrades.

Surely its the other way round?! The app is MORE secure!!

SIMS 8 is a whole new MIS written from the ground up, it isn't a web based version of SIMS - pretty sure you've made a lot of people at Capita cry.

I appreciate SIMS really should support scaling, but it's a legacy software package, which they are in the process of rewriting, it can't come as a shock it doesn't work correctly. At the end of the day, it's less then £120 for a 28" monitor. If your school aren't willing to invest in a large monitor, that's pretty stupid. Not only does it make the staff feel undervalued but it doesn't make business sense - loss productivity costs over the life of a monitor - which is at least a min of 3 years - you only need to stop someone on min wage going off sick for 2 days and you've covered the cost.

If you're spending over £1k on something I don't think you'll moan about an extra £9... and lets face it, folks will prob use it as an excuse to buy new headphones.

Again, you need to contact your SIMS support team \ Capita. SIMS isn't the same as FMS\SOLUS3. It could be your indexes need rebuilding (which if you've been messing about with comp level is likely) - which is literary a patch which you could have applied 3 days ago.

Why don't you contact Capita and get them to have a look. Its what you pay them for!! You'll be ok to jump to the latest CU.
