Job Request - please upload class lists
Kawlindakew replied to Kawlindakew's topic in Learning Network Manager
Thanks for everyone's input, I have dug my heals in on this one but apparently I have been reported to my line manager ( who is on my side). Lets see what happens. -
If this sounds like a moan, it is. Please can I have your thoughts on the following I am currently being asked by a department to create and upload class lists into a piece of online software which they use in class. My argument is, it is my job to ensure that software is accessible and running at all time, it is the teaching staff who are wanting to use the software responsibility to know how to use it and have been using it in the past. I feel like I am being asked to do their job. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the replys everyone. 3s-gtech - sounds the best option for us as there are only 8 imacs. Not sure exactly what you mean though by 'Extra Free Loops'. Also don't I have to create 8 individual Itunes accounts, linked to credit cards? Thanks
-
Help/Information required please, We currently have 8 Imacs joined to our windows domain. The music department has asked that I install Garageband on all 8 macs, which is the best way or how have you done this without spending too much money. Will I need a Mac server and MDM software to deploy, this option may be too costly or is there another free alternative. Thanks in Advance

Add an Image to Corporate signature in Exchange 2010

Please forgive my stupidity here but does that mean: i have to install and setup a web server?? Thank you for the quick reply -
Is anyone using MDM software to manage their tablet devices? We have just bought 20 Galaxy Tab 4s and we are already tired of having to install an App 20 times. We are after some software that will allow us to deploy apps from a central location, push out any updates that may be required and wipe any device if it becomes lost. This software must also be compatible with different devices, not just android. because eventually we would also like to be able to push out and remove apps on pupils own devices. Any Suggestions is it a good or bad idea? Thanks in Advance

Pupil Access to personal online email accounts
Kawlindakew replied to Kawlindakew's topic in Learning Network Manager
Thank you for your reply. I will let the powers that be decide on if they want to continue permitting access to personal emails. -
Just trying to find out what other schools do in regards to allowing pupil access to online email accounts. Do you allow them access while in school or block them and the reasons why? We appear to get a lot of junk mail plus the occasional bit of spyware\virus. Trying to find a way of stopping this, we already block pupils using usb drives. Would blocking online email also help to prevent this or should i be looking at other things. Thanks in advance

Minecraft on the schools network
Kawlindakew replied to Kawlindakew's topic in Learning Network Manager
So as far as I can tell now... there are no security issues, it is a paid for game but if the kids already have accounts they will just be logging on? -
Minecraft on the schools network
Kawlindakew replied to Kawlindakew's topic in Learning Network Manager
Thanks for the quick replies. What the teacher wants is for a few kids to be able to play minecraft at lunchtime, I don't really want to get into installing servers etc. Is it possible just to download and install the game so they can get to wherever it needs to on the web, or are there security concerns etc. -
I am being asked to install Minecraft on to some of our PC's, which are on the schools network. I'm not really comfortable doing this as I have no experience of Minecraft at all. What are the implications of doing this, any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

Thanks for the input everyone but, the enterprise wireless has been ordered previous to me accepting the role so it's going ahead no matter what. What I really want to know is with students bringing in their own devices and connecting to the current unsecure wireless what are the chances of picking up a virus and is there any chnce a skilled user could access data on the servers. Just worried that for the next few weeks we are vunerable to spyware or virus etc. thank you

There is no BYOD policy involved, I am currently sorting out out getting enterprise wireless installed in the next few weeks and then BYOD. My concern is can the school devices get a virus from any machine connecting to the wireless or because they aren't part of the domain are they safe. could someone connect and browse the domain, because as far as I'm aware shouldn't school data be secure and encrypted.

No not new, have worked in IT for just over 10 years now. The role that I have was advertised as a technician but they know that what they are asking me to do is Network Manager. I am happy to start as technician but will be going back to them once I have a couple of things sorted, so i have evidence that I can do the job.

Help and Advice needed please, I have just started a new technician job at a school that shall remain nameless for now, but I have inherited 2 problems that I hope someone can offer advice. Problem one: The schools wireless has been setup without any security at all, it is currently open to anyone who wants to connect. As soon as I had found this out I noticed that there are quite a few students bringing in their own devices and using them on the network. With no one checking for any virus or spyware etc. Fortunately to get out on the internet they have to supply their school username and password, so I'm hoping this is secure enough to prevent anyone from outside school actually sending illegal content or downloading inappropriate content, am I right in thinking this way. Also the schools antivirus seems to be preventing anything from attacking the schools computers but for how long. Problem 2: Some of the computers, laptops and even the switches are so old that they're not fit for purpose. The problem being though that the school bursar has had full control of the ICT equipment for such a long time that he is reluctant to let me take it over and he certainly doesn't like to spend any money on new equipment. It is painful watching the pupils and teachers struggling to use the equipment, so has anyone got any advice on how you would tackle this situation. Any advice on either or both of the problems would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Can anyone help or advise on the following setup issue. Currently we have all our staff emails running through exchange and the pupils don't have an email address. We would like set up Gmail accounts for the students so they are totally seperate from the Teachers. We have verified our domain with Google but now have to setup Gmail MX records for our domain, will we be able to have MX records for or exchange server and also Gmail running along side each other? Just a little worried that we could break the MX records for Exchange. Thank you in Advance
