It has been a few years since I specced up a core switch, but iirc we managed to get a 5412 with 10gbe network modules for about £12k! Your previous installers were trying to take you for a ride!

I'd be looking at HPE/Aruba core switches, a 5406 should cover your needs with the right modules, and have room for expansion later.

VM have rubbish DNS servers, they used to fall over constantly when I was with them, you'll just have to wait unfortunately!

I can't say that anything I use does it this way, but some phones use it, notably iphones in my experience, I guess it's easier to program it this way though? just another line in the exif data, as opposed to a transformation matrix of the pixel data.
