After testing it on a variety of laptops and pc's we have been so impressed that all being well we are going to move to it next summer, this summer we are upgrading to Office 2007

A little trick we do here is to swap the "dead" battery into another laptop, it usually kicks into life and commences charging, leave the battery in this laptop don't put it back into the original.

The way in via the web interface is, click on "System Administration", go to left hand side and click on "System Admin" in the drop down, scroll down to "Telephone Directory Management" then User Configuration. Search for the extension. then you can do all your changes

Sound like you're logging into the "Enterprise Manager, when you initially get the logon box after user name and password there should be a drop down box when you can pick up "Ops manager only", this is where you need to be.

You have to log into the "Ops manager", Configuration,Directory Management, Moves adds & changes editor and delete the account then create the new account.

I've just installed some Axis 211 ip cameras, they record on motion sensor, the software is free for 1 camera, but you have to pay for more, cameras work out about £500 each. Very easy to setup on dhcp, very good pictures.

To set the wallpaper put the .bmp into c:\windows, run regedit. to set the pre logon wallpaper it needs to be put into HKEY_Current_user, Control Panel, Desktop, Wallpaper. To set the post logon background it's HKEY_USER, Default, Control Panel, Desktop, Wallpaper

We use G-mail at Google, takes all the worry out out running another exchange server just for students, it's easy to setup and maintain, bulk upload of students in the form of a csv file

If it's extra network storage try using Iomega, you can mirror the hard disk, you just give them a name plug them into the network and away you go. We are using some here to keep our Ghost images on, thats how much we trust them.

If all the previous replies have confused you speak to the boys from Cisco, we had them in to explain and demonstrate their wireless gear. It was then installed by a contractor and any problems were overseen by Cisco. we now have a brilliant 802.11n wireless system managing up to 1000 laptops with no problems.

We had to bring back mouse mats after moving to optical mice and new shiney desk tops the firm we used was Promotional Mouse Mats mousemats made in the UK for printed business gifts and their britemats, now students can't pick them apart and they seem not to "borrow" them to take home. The firm print anything on them you want and aren't too expensive.

This might explain a fist full of problems here as we run our Smartboards with old low spec Dell computers and they are forever dropping the usb connection. Where on the Smart web site does it give the spec of 300ma @ 5v, I've never seen or heard that before.

Our printing is out sourced to Servicepoint, who use Canon printers

If you count Network Managers then they are the most unreliable product of modern society, some of their decision making leaves a lot to be desired.

We had exactly this problem when we were trialing classroom management software, it randomly wouldn't pick some of the "Student" computers, needless to say we didn't proceed with this but went for LanSchool, a much better product

I don't understand why a company has charged you for rj45 to phone adapters as they cost virtually nothing, in fact most give them away. Cordless phones talk to their base units seperately, although you can make more than one handset talk to a base unit, they don't interfere with each other.

If you don't change the user name etc then you can end up with "irate staff" especially those that have "seperated or divorced", I know from experience here in our College.

Simply rename the account if you're using AD, rename home folder and profile not forgetting to do the security permissions. If you're using Exchange then add the new e-mail address and make it the primary, they'll then get all the e-mails including those sent to the old address. If you have an Exchange server then it can all be done there.

We had this a few times and every time it has turned out to be a virus in their roaming profile. If possible give them a new clean profile
