i have pm'd u. we have just delt with ricoh/infotec and leased 37 machines from them and some software called print audit 6 to manage them. with that sw you can monitor and charge staff although to do the same with kids to depts would need to know what lesson they in etc. but that sw can do most of waht you ask plus its pretty easy to run. does need a sql database to run from but that about it. let me know i can talk to you on the phone if you like PM me and we can put heads together

the way we do this is stupid and involves access and a lot of faff! our prob is we need to know what teachers are here and not the VI, reception do the fire lists in the morning. if you want i can find out how they do it for you?

when i first started there was no media units and searchs on the server for mp3s and mpgs avis etc were painless, now there are multimedia units etc and this is legit, but when i see copy righted music its gone....zap the teachers moan about my mp3 player being connected to the stereo etc, i just say if ppl come in i have to unplug it simple, if its on there server (in work areas) then its on 2 weeks worth of backups and spread all over the server....not simple....we be screwed! `

i brought my box off ebay and dish and fitted it all my self. so i dont have a card i almost brought one (a freeview one) to get the other free channels. I have one other idea about how to resolve this issue. point my tv arial the other way (2 broardcast stations here) and see if i can get freeview (dvb or waht ever) gonna test this idea tomoro, my neighbour has theirs the other way if this works i can go a head with a different card would appreciate any otehr ideas, other advice etc

Think this is the right room for this so... Greetings all, i am on the edge of buying a new system in teh aim of building a HTPC (sky box blown up and bored). My aim; I want a HiDef HTPC, with PVR function. I want to be able to have a signal from my dish (HD) or maybe two! What i know; As far as building the system no problem been building since i was 12 (now in my 20s). I no i can choose xp MCE, Vista HP, or run a linux distro (i will choose the latter two tho but would appreciate advice on these) What i dont know; Digital signal, and channels i am not paying for sky just getting the free channels atm. (just as a note here i dont think i can get DVB although this may just be my tv aerial) so what channels can i get Card? I have looked at may cards, but struggle to find an ideal one due to the descriptions Questions; 1. What is the best OS for a PVR HTPC? 2. If i were to subscribe to sky (to get more channels) can i do this on this system? 3. What card is the best (preferably PCI not PCIe as my wifi card is PCIe) for the following functions; * singal or dual channel recordings * lots of channels (at least ch 1-5) Fingers tired of christmas typing now, cheers in advance and i hope you have all had a merry xmas and hope you all have a great new years and the new year brings good times.... ....rant ends

looked at the antec fusion, beautiful case but has silly cd drive button thingy and firewire port partly considering it tho partly just cus its antec and i have ocd

right heres the lowdown, i get bored, i havene t got a HTPC and am bored, but im fussy! The current spec of my system is as follows; Case - Antec P182 CPU - Core 2 Duo e6600 w Zalman CNPS9700-NT RAM - Corsair Dominator PC8500 2x1GB Mobo - abit a9wd HDD - x 160 GB 1x500 GB GFX - xfx fatal1ty 8600 GT Optical - Samsung DVD RW and Samsung DVD ROM Displays - 2x 19" Widescreens Inputs - Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000 Laser Mouse 6000 etc am swapping out the e6600 for a e6600 and the 160gb boot drive for a raptor (dont know which one yet). - for notation sake am also swapping the case fans for noctua 800rpm fans too. This will leave me with some parts so HTPC i thought. since having my P182 i want a really high quallity case which is TIDY and quiet, i want a good case with what i want. I do like; solid designs with good air flow etc tidy looking want front expantion, not necessarily for drives but for displays etc dont like drive sourounds (cd drives, u know where the case has a button for the drive etc and a lil flappy bit for the drive tray - cheap) firewire on the front (if through cost i get a mobo with out fire wire it will be pointless and stupid) ino rant but any recomendations on cases or mobos, i have a sky lead coming in is it possible to attach this? win hauppauge do this dont they (never needed to know so i dont ....know) cheers ppl

sussed it sorted if you want to know how read on short answer = cd drive long answer = the freiend who wanted the pc wanted to spend £500 ish so i thought how can i lower the price... "i have a case and disk drives" i said there is £100+/- so i ordered the internal sh*t and build it and that is where the blinking underscores happened.... i came to reolise that the underscores are when it is checking the boot device, i have been swapping every thing, ram cpu hdds (it did boot with my ubuntu hdd [given it didnt have the gfx drivers but meh]) gfx card etc etc so what was left i know the system ran, as it ran linux (time for a full stop). at this point i had tried 3 xp disks 4 optical drives (cd reader, dvd reader, cdrw and another cdreader) and the rest hw swaps........tried a vista disk ... error insert bootable media then enter [sic] (it was in a cd reader not a dvd drive) so on a whim and the back thought of somthing in another forum i had read i grabbed my dvdrw out of my station and bob ya uncle etc answer= it was the old optical drives on this mobo...it did not like booting to them. so now vista is installed just been for a pint (or two) gonna install the rest tomoz thanks you all very much for you speedy resonses it was great!!!! this was the best forum i posted on and the 1st / 2nd big post i have done am defo an edugeek fan now!!! (thank god i had them pints cud not type this much at this time of night with out it lol) cheers again

a min a go it booted into win install then bsod on pci.sys which after reading means (that cus i grabbed the 1st xp disk arround, an orignal) it didnt have the pci-express drivers on so went and grabbed an xp2 disk and again _ flashing bloody underscore. i have tried 3 drives so far gonna try one more........................errrrrrrrrrrrrrr......ide cable am gonna swap that too i am not gonna be beaten!!!!!

right more confusion..... i have just put an old 60gb WD IDE drive in (no optical connected) this drive has ubuntu installed .... right .... booted 1st time.... so i connected a cd drive up blinkin underscore!!!!!!! agggrrrrhhhhhhhh

i did try her old hdd am tempted to try a hdd to my ubuntu station (but that means moving lol) the hdd in the failing comp is sata with two ide optical drives to my knolege this should have none of the problems above nbut i may be worng right lets start a swap fest!
