Hi There Licensing is such a nightmare, so complicated! I`ll ask our Microsoft team for you but they could need to speak to you for more info, would that be ok? We have one of the most highly qualified MS specialists in the UK for Education so would be time well spent. Cheers Jon.

Hi Everyone Despite supplying Apple kit for over 15 years I very rarely actually use any of it so have no experience of iPads out in the wild. A client of mine has asked..... "I have just been reading a forum between the ipad 10th gen and ipad air which claims although the air is a year older, it’s a much better device. Would you agree with this or do you feel the 10th gen would be sufficient?" Any one able to help me with an answer for him? Thanks Jon.

Speaking to Microsoft impossible
Millgate_Jon replied to discoveranother's topic in Licensing Questions
All our 365 clients get level 1 and 2 support included as well as access to our Microsoft specialist team- sometimes it's nice just to be able to pick up the phone and speak to a person to talk though your issues and questions. Microsoft can be so confusing. -
Hi Alistair - Which screen is it? Do you have the model number? I can ask our Iiyama rep for you, see if he knows how to do this. Thanks Jon.

Good spot Will - Was just about to post this myself after contacting our clients about it. For info this is what we`ve sent to our clients: "It has just come to our attention that Broadcom have posted the below on their website with an announcement that out of support keys will not be transferred to their new Broadcom site and the old portal is being retired. We ask that you check if this affects you, and that you download any relevant key for safe keeping as they will no longer be available after today. Only license keys that have an active support contract will be brought over to Broadcom systems. After approximately Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. (PDT), if you have license keys associated with expired support contracts, you won’t have access to them in the Broadcom systems. If you require continued access to those licenses, please follow the instructions outlined in this knowledge base article to download these keys before 5:00 p.m. (PDT) on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The two articles below via Broadcom may be useful for you to read: VMware Licensing Transition to Broadcom knowledge base article This will need doing by midnight tonight." Good Luck Everyone!

Photographers of Edugeek - Show us yer stuff
Millgate_Jon replied to Pyroman's topic in General Chat
Hi Everyone - Are any of you photographers into motorsport and fairly local to Silverstone? I`m racing there in June and would happily sort a ticket for you in exchange for some pics of me out on track and round the paddock etc. Cheers Jon. -
I`d start by going to your Microsoft provider, whoever you currently buy your licensing from. They`ll have access to your Microsoft agreement and depending on their partner status, be able to get the support on your behalf.

Hi There - We can supply any Paxton kit and offer Education pricing on all the things you`ve mentioned. unfortunately we can`t install - just supply, if you`d like pricing just send us a PM and we can take a look for you. Thanks Jon.

Does your school email address have ".org" in it? I`ve heard a few people struggle with similar and it was the .org bit confusing the Microsoft system, there is a workaround though via their support channels.

Hi Everyone - Here is a direct copy and paste of the response from our Lenovo rep about the Mediatek chips...... "Hi Jon, To give you an idea, here is a performance benchmark breakdown of the AMD 3015Ce (used on the 3rd Gen EDU Chromebooks), the Mediatek Kompanio (used on current 4th Gen EDU Chromebooks), and the N100 CPU that is available on the high end 500e G4) As you can see, both the Intel and the Mediatek used in the current gen are significantly better than the AMD CPU we were using last year – since ChromeOS is a lightweight OS that more resembles a mobile OS like Android, the Mediatek CPU better lends itself to it and will improve battery life since it runs at a lower wattage. I know benchmarks aren’t the end all be all, but this at least you gives you a good idea that when it comes to raw processing performance, the new Mediatek chip is outperforms the older AMD CPU in all capacities, while being more efficient, due to the old age of the AMD CPU (that specific architecture is now almost 3 years old)." I hope the picture is viewable, I`ve not posted one on here before :-) Hope you all find this useful Cheers Jon.

I`ve just asked our Lenovo rep for any data about Mediatek that might be useful for you all to see. I know stats can easily paint a picture but by the same token, any info about why they moved over along with any of the testing results that motivated the change would be helpful I`m sure.

For the people wondering about Lenovo Spares.....They have changed preferred partner twice in the last 18 months so yes it has been tricky but they`ve now gone into a longer term contract with a Dutch firm to supply into the UK and whilst not as smooth as other vendors, we can at least now get the parts. Can`t remember who but earlier in the thread someone mentioned about ASUS at the BETT Show, I 100% agree, they have exploded diagrams of devices showing all spare parts with part number. As an ASUS partner I can quote and see stock on those parts in a matter of seconds - from an aftercare point of view this is gold - Anyone considering aftercare in their buying decision will do well to consider ASUS for this reason alone. The devices are popular too and through the right channels, the deals are there to be had!

Was there any explanation of why they would warn you away from G4 machines? I`ve a handful of clients with G4`s and no one has been disappointed so far, I`d be curious to know what the issue may be.

Finally got round to watching The Irishman this weekend.....cracking film, really liked it but am now suffering jetlag from my bodyclock being about 3 hours out.

I have a school running Halo and they have pre-recorded the Headmasters voice to use as an audio alert on the sensor stating "you have been caught vaping, report to my office immediately". Students are then going off to the HT`s office and reporting themselves! The deodorant use is an issue if the device cannot detect masking, students cotton on pretty quickly that they can disable the unit by spraying deodorant - this along with aggression is why we`ve seen clients move towards the Halo as a preferred solution as it`s the only device that covers those things.
-
I`ve supplied plenty of 3rd party cartridges and they don`t have any worse failure rates than the original manufacturers versions (less than 1% get RMA`d). When it comes to manufacturers getting funny about warranties when 3PC are used the general rule is......did the cartridge cause the issue? If not, they couldn`t care less and will honour the warranty.

Hi Ollie I dont have any experience of the EEF myself but some schools I have worked with in the past have used them before. It could be way off the mark but might be worth investigating........ https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/ Good Luck!
-
Reminds me of the Hololens a few years ago, the Microsoft rep came into demo them to us - incredible piece of kit but he couldn`t understand why the £4k per headset price point might be a bit of a blocker to most schools in the UK!
-
is the Apple Vision Pro released in the UK yet? None of our suppliers have any live stock or price feeds showing, not even available to pre-order.
-
Hello mw184 I`ve managed quite a few switch installs for schools, requirements vary from site to site and different vendors run different promo`s at any given time so it can be hit and miss as to "who is best". If you`d like to discuss in a bit more detail please drop me a line, we can run an audit for you and see whats what and make some recommendations from there. Cheers Jon.

Chocolate pizzas take more effort than a quick nose around Wikipedia! :-) Besides, Formula One is non work related so couldn`t make a competition out of barstool trivia. I think there`ll be some comps in May though so keep eyes peeled.

Good work fella - No prizes this time though! I was just surprised how far back you have to go thats all, sort of makes me think that drivers like Kimi, regardless of the car, they are past their peak and another title is sadly, no longer a possibility.
