does the floating toolbar work now?

what panel have you bought? most brands should have freeze frame and blank as standard, preferably both on the remote and on the bezel. Some manufacturers have firmware upgrades for this, was discussed on here a while back so worth checking. many brands are becoming available, ranging in quality.

we saw their 70" at a show last month; had some interesting features, the blue light filter and chromebook support with two extra usb sockets were something we hadn't seen before.

It means you're constantly flicking your little finger into the bezel to try and get W8 swipe menus to work... Not correct about the above brand being the only ones, I know the Latest BenQ's have this dead space, maybe Clevertouch too.

New panels should have few mm of dead space around the hard glass for W8 future proofing. You need to be able to move pixel 1. Wouldn't buy one that doesn't.

1080p matching monitors is an affordable setup. any resolution outside native is a compromise IMHO.

looks to be flooded with brands at the moment Jon-Paul, some are display brands, projector brands, IWB brands, low cost imports. If you can get demo samples, get on well with the supplier and direct contact to the manufacturer it's worth it's weight. for the screens to last many years, not just long warranties and free service upgrades; but connectivity, OS support (Mac OS, Chromebook, Linux etc), Software licencing and added features you many not think you will miss today could be essential soon.

Smart ink is only available for Smart's own products.. you can try the transparent background mode, works similar for other hardware, but Smart will still charge you a licence fee for using their software.

i've only used their projectors and monitors, not had issues to date, and the sales guy we deal with there is helpful. might be worth another look.

not seen the last one but all three others were at BETT, the Benq is an old model, they had a demo of the later one at the show.

i went to an Avermedia presentation up there and popped into a few companies, didn't look too secret

it's likely there's a headphone socket on the monitor so you could try using these to power passive/active speakers. if the PC/laptop has speakers you can switch back the audio to the analogue output via control panel. it's a right faff in windows, we use Soundswich program to hotswap between.
