Oh dear! LOL. Our assets are all over the place and nowhere near accurate at the moment, but we used the fact that we've just moved into a new building to get round that ;-)

Of those of you who do use W10, which version do you personally have installed on your PC at work? There are many versions to choose from, from our download page on the volume license account: Windows 10 Professional, Education, Enterprise, Enterprise with Features on Demand, Professional with Features on Demand?

There's two reasons for bringing this in; 1 - The recent ICT audit, and 2 - A member of staff who recently left and claims that she was told that the laptop was hers and could keep it!! Yeah right, because that's what schools do, "Welcome to our school, we hope you enjoy your stay, and here is your welcome gift of £800 worth of ICT equipment to do with what you will"! NOT.

Please feel free to plagiarise :-) Staff ICT Equipment - Loan Agreement Staff name:______________________________________ Introduction ICT Equipment is loaned to you by the Academy on a temporary basis in order to help with the preparation of your teaching and learning resources, and to help with access to online resources when inside the academy or at home. 1. The loan agreement exists between the Academy and the named person who has signed this loan agreement. 2. ICT equipment will be loaned to the named person for the duration of their employment and must be returned if the employment ceases, or at any time if requested by the ICT tech team for the purposes of maintenance (point 6 below), or by any member of the SLT. 3. All loaned equipment and associated peripherals remain the property of [ insert school name ]. 4. All loaned equipment will come with any required software pre-installed. If you have any technical issues with the equipment, this should be reported to the ICT tech team at the earliest opportunity. If you need to install software of your own, this must be licensed and legally purchased and approved by the ICT tech team before installation takes place. An ICT technician must carry out all software installations. At no point must you attempt to make any changes to equipment hardware. 5. The computer and the connectivity equipment must not be used for any illegal and/or antisocial purpose, in accordance with the Academy Acceptable Use of ICT Policy. 6. There may be occasions when we need you to return the computer to school for upgrades and maintenance. Please note that because of these upgrades, it may be necessary to completely remove all information contained on the computer. [ Insert school name ] cannot be held responsible for the loss or damage of any data on the computer during this process. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have backed up any data you wish to keep and to return the equipment to school when requested. 7. Personal data should not be stored on any Academy owned equipment. 9. If any equipment is stolen you must immediately report it to the police and get a crime reference number, and immediately report this to SLT and the ICT tech team. 10. In the event of any equipment being stolen or accidentally damaged, we will do our best to repair or replace it. Please note that it is not always possible to repair or replace equipment immediately. Responsibilities you have to care for loaned equipment. 11. You have a responsibility to take reasonable care to ensure the security of the computer and connectivity equipment. 12. You must not decorate or change the external face of the equipment provided in any way, including affixing stickers or cases. 13. You must not remove any labels that are attached to the equipment, including but not limited to, asset labels and PAT testing labels 13. Reasonable health and safety precautions should be taken when using ICT Equipment. The school is not responsible for any damage to person or property resulting from the misuse of equipment. Sounds good. I also have an ICT asset system but it doesn't provide that level of functionality. Which system are you using?

Hi all, we were recently subject to an ICT audit. All went well and we hand only one recommendation, and that is that we should have staff signing some form of loan agreement when they are issued with academy ICT equipment (Laptop, iPad etc), which they should also sign upon return of said equipment should they leave the academy. Do any of you have anything similar in place?

OK, so I got a quote for a new server and, although we have the funds to buy, I think it maybe a little OTT. Considering it will only used for MDT and hosting images, opinions on the spec and prices would be much appreciated. I've obviously omitted the company details. Hi all, we're in the process of going back to Windows from Mac. On the Mac side we use ARD for remote access to iMacs and MacBooks around the school. Many moons ago when we were windows before, we used ABTutor Control, but I'm thinking there must be some other options available on the market now? What do you use for remote support / monitoring? Thanks for that Tom. We are actually lucky enough to be able to purchase a couple of brand new servers so I'll have a new dedicated server which I'll be using to host and deploy images :-) . I think the majority vote goes to MDT given our staffing situation and I have a really good relationship with our supplier of the servers, who are going to help me setup MDT on site as they are very local (double smiley :-) :-) We've dumped 'admin' and 'curric' domains a number of years ago now when we went Apple, so that's a plus. With regards to your point number 2 "Separation of roles" - Please could you elaborate? It's only very recently that I've been dipping my toe into the server side of things since the departure of my network manager just before Christmas. Prior to that (and indeed after that) I've been given no training, so it's been a whirlwind of googling, youtube and of course this very forum for it's invaluable help and support. Many thanks.

I did think about launching the exe files on a windows pc I have, and then transferring the resulting extracted files onto disk to use in the server. But when I run the exe files on the PC, it says that the update package is incompatible with your system configuration, or the system is too new for the for the update package. Think I need a server to do this on, but I can't install the server.

I do recall this lifecycle controller being referenced when I have been reading up on the server, however I can't find anything of this nature on the server. I read that F10 at startup will launch the LCC but when I do, nothing happens.

So I downloaded what I thought are the raid drivers from the Dell website (they were all exe files) put them onto a disk and tried that. When the install errors out and asks for drivers, I point it to the CD but then get this message. Maybe I've not got the right drivers?

Thought I'd update on this. Got in touch with Sharp (our MFD rental firm) and through working with them for a couple of days it was discovered that Mac didn't like the way we were installing the printer, or the drivers we were using. Rather than System Prefs>Printers & Scanners>Add Printer then waiting for the default list to populate with the shared printer and installing that. We had to use System Prefs>Printers & Scanners>IP then enter the IP address of the print server, then in the Queue field enter printers/name_of_printer Then give it a friendly name and them choose the correct drivers from the drop down menu! Easy when you know how :-/ Then the Principal decides to get rid of the iMacs and go back to Windows boxes!!! Grrrrrrr

Oooh. RAID drivers are probably the only ones I didn't download from Dell . I did however download a full ISO from the Dell website and ran a server update before attempting to install the OS, that update went well. I'll grab the RAID drivers tomorrow and give those a bash :-) Cheers.

Hi all, I've been installing server 2012 today on a Dell Poweredge 2950. Installing from disk, when the install started I got a message saying that there was a driver missing (unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the message but will tomorrow if I get it again), it didn't say what driver but merely hinted that it could have been a USB or Media driver. So I downloaded all the server drivers from the Dell website, stuck them onto a disk and allowed the wizard to search for the driver it wanted. It didn't find one, but allowed me to continue with the server 2012 install anyway. Then, part way through the install I gets the message pictured here, so I wondered if this was a result of having not found the missing driver at the beginning? Great. Thanks for the feedback. We have a number of spare Dell servers so I will get on building one up this afternoon. I presume we will need a different image for each model of PC?

Is the VM running windows server or just a standard windows install?

I think I will take a look at MDT. Do you all have a separate server to handle MDT and images / imaging, or do you run it from your DC?

Thanks to all for your input. I'm in discussions with ICT Direct and BIST. Now my next question is, and I'm think to do this during the summer holidays, our current AD is on 2008R2. I'd like to get it onto 2012 but, do I upgrade or build a new AD? I've never done either so will have to read up, and as my employer is not taking on another network manager (following the departure of my previous manager) it falls to me to get this done.

I'm beginning to think that 120 will be enough. We are a GAFE Academy so each member of staff and students have their own google account. We have minimal network storage (mainly for a handful of admin). Everyone is told not to store anything on the desktop / local docs folders etc. and they use their google storage. 120 should be find for an OS/Office?Adobe Suite and a handful of small apps such as VLC.

Yea, we'll be W10 all throughout.

Put it this way, I don't think it's enough considering the market value of them. But saying that, he does have to sell them on, and they collect and wrap and box each of them so it's a compromise I suppose.
