  1. we have two Magicard - Enduro 3 - with BadgeMaker software, works pretty well, no problems, allows the import of a csv for badge creation (student names, staff names etc).
  2. We were advised from Sahara that there aren't any Clevertouch drivers, the screens use the standard HID range from Windows Update.
  3. Hi all, We have a number of clevertouch plus boards in our Maths department all displaying similar faults. On Windows 7 Office 2013 we did not experience any problems. Since our migration last summer to Windows 10 and Office 2016 we have had constant snags with Clevertouch boards: Phantom lines appearing whilst annotating using Microsoft Office 2016 products (mostly Powerpoint). Annotation not calibrated correctly with the board, annotations appearing 4 inches to the right of where the board is touched. Monitor on desk losing signal when displaying Powerpoints on Clevertouch screens- we have had to educate users how to clone their display and create a desktop icon to facilitate this. This is really hit and miss, often a restart of the computer resolves the issue but not guaranteed. We have tried changing drivers, spoke with Sahara support, been given a touch assistance driver to install in addition to the standard windows update touch driver and this has proved no use so far. We have also changes USB cables, HDMI inputs, screen resolutions etc. Really appreciate any advice any one can offer - this is putting me off buying more Clevertouch screens as we can't offer a consistent working teaching tool.
  4. 1450 students, 650 computers (mostly desktop PC's, 5 banks of laptop trolleys - 120 laptops total)
  5. For marketing purposes, eg PTA, we were told that a nice way around this is to advertise the page on your website, eg http://www.school.com/pta and put all of your promotional material on your website. Then through schoolcomms tell parents visit your site to view event details, rather than directly sending out promotional/marketing data. This way the parent/carer still has the 'active' choice whether or not to view the content. My understanding is that if you use schoolcomms for sending parents texts regarding school closure etc this is perfectly acceptable and is under the lawful bases of GDPR. If you are sending promotional material using schoolcomms you would need to seek clear consent from that parent.
  6. Same issue here, we only started to have problems after we did an upgrade to Win 10 / Office 2016. Evidence suggests it is a policy from an ADMX template in Powerpoint 2016 - 'Do not allow PPoint to automatically extend display' - however when we have changed this for all users, the issue does persist in some rooms. Has anybody been able to fully resolve this? We have standard monitors and Clevertouch, VGA to monitor on teacher desk and HDMI to Clevertouch. Are people saying that enabling 'presenter mode' does in fact fix this issue?
  7. Hi all, this is now working on Creo 3 following the above advice "We had a similar problem with this but found that in the User Policies - System - Prevent Access to the command prompt (leave tick in here) and then expand the option and change the setting for Disable the command prompt script processing also? to No." Lifesaver! Thanks a bunch for all the comments.
  8. Just to add my two penneth worth... We as a school ask for explicit consent for student photos on our website, social media outlets etc, anything in the public domain essentially. Like localzuk my opinion is that we cannot rely on any other GDPR lawful bases other than consent for publishing a student photo. In the school building however we feel that for display boards and other necessary purposes, we can in fact rely on the public task legal bases to put photos up of students. We have taken the safer approach of telling staff to use 'first names' only in school and on any online platform. We have found that the public domain vs internal school analogy makes it in our opinion easier for our support and teaching staff to understand. If we ever wish to publish full names alongside photos/videos/classwork etc on social media or the website for a national achievement etc - we will go out and seek specific consent at the time. There are risks attached to putting student photos on a school website including parental problems, looked after children etc, who may need protecting and therefore their affiliation with a school needs to be kept confidential.
  9. Sorry to bump an old thread. We are in the middle of a migration project to Windows 10. We are trying to get Creo 3.0 to work, it will open as an administrator, but not a student test user. Creo 3.0 applications eg Parametric will not open up at all, there are no error messages. Would anybody be kind enough to let me know the steps they took to resolve this issue? I have contacted PTC but the support has been limited. Thanks in advance!
  10. Hi All, Just interested to learn since implementation of GDPR if you have put in plans or already have totally eliminated the use of SD Cards, USB pens, CD/DVD drives etc across the network for staff and students. If so has this been met with any backlash from SLT, Heads of Depts, and other staff? We have currently gone for a belt and braces approach and I think we may end up having to adapt our AUA to allow staff to continue using certain removable media devices. eg. 3D printer requires files to be put on an SD card, Recording of spelling tests MFL and playing back of content on record-able devices, music department use content from CD's and load this onto the computer etc. How are you managing this? Thanks
  11. Hi All, Looking for some recommendations for a printer for our Art department with the following features: - Excellent quality printing - Suitable for Adobe Photoshop/Graphics Print outs - Able to print different sizes A4 or A3. - Low/Reasonable consumable price - Reasonable print speed - Networked - Budget up to £2000 - Win 10/Server 2012 compatible Thanks
  12. Has anybody had any success with getting data sharing agreements signed? We appear to be getting generic responses with updated T&C's that claim compliance with GDPR rather than a signature for our data sharing agreement. I have asked the ICO about this and they state: "If having looked at a contract you consider that the terms and conditions constitute a contract between you, and this is GDPR compliant then this may well comply. If you doubt that this is the case then you would need to go back to these organisations and get a contract in place as you will have done under the DPA" For those schools who have emplyed a DPO to carefully review countless sets of T&C's this approach may be ok - not sure about the rest of us!
  13. The 'little darlings' just like to do their own thing.
  14. I'm talking about scenarios where they haven't opened SIMS yet... - - - Updated - - - I do agree with you Matt, I can't answer for the folk that find WIN+L difficult.
  15. Common practice here no matter how many times staff are told to WINDOWS+L even with policy reinforcement, there is always a 'staff member' who is too busy or forgot. For me, they can write it down as long as wherever they write it is secured/locked away.
  16. Hi Matt, I concur, more thinking about scenarios where mindless staff leave their computer unlocked but haven't opened SIMS. It would be nice to have the re-auth to stop opportunistic students getting on SIMS. - - - Updated - - - SSO just makes it even weaker in my opinion.
  17. Hi Matt40k, Thank you, can you elaborate on the windows auth? I know that you can configure single sign on with SIMS using AD details, but I still want teachers to be prompted to enter a user/pass when logging onto SIMS, would Windows auth enable this? Any dummy steps I need to take to get this working? Thanks
  18. Sorry to bump an old thread - I believe that you can configure SQL Server to utilise the OS/AD password policy. We use SQL 2014 to host SIMS, does anybody know the steps involved in applying the AD password policy for SQL users within the SIMS database? I can't seem to find a 'enforce password complexity' option within SQL itself. Thanks
  19. What level of physical security controls govern your school premises and your office where the server resides? Like others have said this needs to form part of a risk assessment really, I will not be encrypting servers here due to the physical security controls and measures we have put in place and the fact they reside in a low risk location. Your biggest risk are your USB sticks and laptops leaving the school site with offline sync but it sounds like these are already encrypted . I would consider your remote access solution, where you store your backups (encrypted or not) and analyse existing password policies to look at potential data issues surrounding these. I recently created a new password policy and used MS fine grained password policies - because one didn't exist and users were able to choose any length password - not good at all. I'm not sure how much progress you have made in terms of GDPR, but we started by performing a data mapping exercise which enabled us to figure out where data is stored across the network and in paper records in cabinets/cupboard etc. We have a GDPR working party, 6 members - two SLT, one teacher, IT manager, Office Manager and HR manager. We are arranging for a shredding company to come to site in the near future to do a huge 'spring clean' of old paper records, CD's etc. From an IT perspective, ensure appropriate permissions are configured for file access and systems you use. Check through your AD structure and disable accounts that are questionable and may be an easy back door, including admin accounts you may have configured for external vendors/support services. I disable these and enable when I need assistance. On the back of that investigate which cloud services your school uses , question Heads of Departments etc to get a broader sense of what is being used because if your school is anything like ours, I'm sure teacher x y and z took it upon themselves to upload a csv to a cloud site without consulting IT. Once you have a list (it may not be exhaustive) create a data sharing agreement to send to all of your data processor, i'm sure there will be samples on Edugeek that you can use, these act as an agreement between you and company X. We are trying to simplify our data storage practices, given that we suspect an increase in Subject Access Requests, perhaps investigate how you would currently deal with a SAR, should somebody ask for every piece of data you hold on them. Whatever you do now, needs to make responding to SAR's easier moving forward. Data consolidation vs Single point of failure.. In truth, I don't see any school being 100% compliant by 25th May, but if you can prove you are trying your best to work towards compliance and can clearly demonstrate this, the ICO will look favourably on your school should a breach occur.
  20. We have a school nurse onsite, she previously used excel spreadsheets and paper. We have recently pointed her towards using the Medical notes section on SIMS and it appears to be working really well. Any item she uploads that is confidential and other staff do not need to see, is set to "private", that way only she can view and see the documents that she has added - we have contingency access if required.
  21. Hi Bev, Same issue here going through on the URL - https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/default.aspx Error: [h=4]We are unable to complete your action[/h] [h=4]What you can try:[/h] Go back to the previous page and try again. Go to the VLSC Home page and try logging out and then logging in again. If you continue to encounter the same problem, go to the Help page for further suggestions.
  22. Apex Network Solutions or Pugh Computers Limited provide MS licensing.
  23. Hi Jmak, I received the following response from Kaizena when I asked them about the GDPR compliance. This was from August 2017 so they may be working towards compliance now I am not too sure. However I denied the request for the teacher as I wasn't confident based on the response from Kaizena. Thanks for your question! You can have a look at our privacy policy here: https://info.kaizena.com/privacy The company and our servers are actually located in the USA, so I'm afraid we aren't familiar with the details of data protection regulation in England. However, if you have any specific questions that aren't covered in our privacy policy, just let me know!
  24. Doctor required in inflator room
  25. I would recommend LiveRegister - great so far, no complaints, support is of high quality and responsive, their staff assisted with internal biometric process, we moved to them Summer 2017 and have not looked back since.
