No problem, I was just starting to wonder if you'd managed to get it to work, very happy that it did for you!

I would never deploy a SIMS upgrade during the working day, SIMS have made a big push to push SIMS into the classroom. This immediately causes a conflict because if you do this then obviously it becomes impossible to update during the day. We always do on a night, we've noticed that Wake On LAN normally works however some times by the time Solus3 gets round to pushing out the upgrade to those machiens they may well have gone back to sleep again (Change Request 1309-1211007 if anyone feels like voting) however for the most part we are approaching 90% completion. We have the same issue if a machine hasn't booted up to do the update or if SIMS has been opened before the update has been completed, however a general warning to staff the following morning saying if you get an error please try restarting the computer and then let me know if it still doesn't work reduces it to a redeploy of only 3/4 machines in total.

Mine failed due to Tolerance not met for Solus 3 Database, so it did the .net 4.5 and the Solus 3 agent and then rolled the whole lot back.

Just spotted this on supportnet: My Solus3 deployment rolled back tonight for some reason, just wondering if it is now related to this since I disposed of all aspects of my old database.

It's a while since I've worked in Profiles so they may have fixed it if you wern't supposed to be able to do it (although don't see why particularly). I'm assuming that your second comment bank which you are using for your second session has all your course links set correctly, if not create a new comment bank (ie. Comment Bank for Merging) and Add your sections and link then to the correct Courses. Then, on the Sections which are missing from your Main Comment bank, right click on it and select Copy Area. Then right click on you Main Comment Bank and choose Paste Area. If you do this with one first, if you then go into Manage Sessions you'll be able to see if it has worked. Open up your session in Manage Sessions and then on the left hand side under Report Design you should see your new Course Section there which you have just copied across. Expand it and make sure that all of the Sections are active and on the right hand side under Course, add your classes that you need too appear if they aren't already there and then your staff should then be able to go in and add the comments in the correct session. If it does work, then copy across the Comment Area's for any other missing sections for your main Comment Bank. Does that make any sense? It is all dependant on where your session is currently set - is it in Active or Review?

Unfortunately it will be a copy and paste job and depending on how many students/subjects it affects I'd be tempted to put it down to experience. How easy it is to merge them will depend on how complex your report template is. Is it a page per subject or is it a row in a table? What might be easier is producing the Class Checking Sheet for those staff who were in your 2nd session which will give you a class worths of comments and then Generating your reports on your main session and then editting each one and inserting into the report there. Just remember not to regenerate after you have completed this part. This will be the only place you can edit the report that is linked to the Linked Documents (unless you get the staff to Open the profile from Linked Documents, add there stuff in and then upload back to DMS as a General Document) Another little trick, that I don't know whether is supposed to work or not, is that if you have a session which is Active, you can create a new comment bank, setup the sections, comments and Course Links how you want it, and then copy this into your Active Report Session. You'll then need to go into your Manage Session and make those parts active, however it gets around the limitation on the odd occaision we've needed to (use at your own risk however!) - this might be a possibility to get you out of your current predicament though, but no guarentee it will work - if your session is in Review Mode then it won't (and is still a lot of copying and pasting)

Is that correct? I was under the impression, but could be wrong, that you would have to licence RDS based on the number of users or devices rather then the FTE (which didn't make a lot of sense, but we bought the licences outright in the end). My calc's for your licencing, but only a guess, would be: 3 x Datacenter licences (assuming 2 processor per host) 50 FTE x Educational desktop (Desktop licence, Windows Server CAL, Office) ? x RDS CALS depending on whether you can licence by FTE or whether you need to licence either Per User or Per Device (so either 50 or 462 or x number of access devices).

In the lookups for behaviour management, you can choose which Behaviour types you want to appear on Take a Register and there is a 2nd option in there for the SLG which you can change to Yes/No as you please. We don't have SLG and no intention to at any point in the near to medium future so it is, thankfully, not a problem for us.

Yes they can, you would drag the block onto the slot where the existing block sits and it will put a lock/clash box up. Put a tick so that it will lock and clash and the square will go Black which indicates more then one block is scheduled at that time.

Just a little bit of preliminary research, we are looking at (again) starting to add small behaviour incidents into SIMS - from memory if you use the Right Click -> Add Behaviour it creates the record with the basic details, but leaves the incident as Unresolved. As ever, it needs to be simplified as much as possible and as it is only small incidents we will be adding in this way, ideally we want it to be marked as Resolved - anybody know if there is a way we can achieve this?

Yes you can do what you want, in this case you would increase the minimum periods by 2, build your blocks so that the 2 lessons you want in twilight are in rows on their own and then schedule those 2 sessions. I'd also right click on the columns/rows where you don't want twilight sessions in that block and protect it (can't remember the exact term) so that it puts a blank square there and then lock it - it will prevent the block from potentially reorganising it's self should you need to rebuild it at any point automatically. Providing you have an additional slot for twilight in your timetable cycle then yes, it will work how you want. What you can do to prevent the slot being used by other year croups lower down the school is add a blanking code to each of your years/bands for the number of periods required and then schedule the blanking codes in the twilight slots for those year groups. NovaT should then ignore the blanked periods should you try to use any of the autoscheduling functions (I think from memory).

I can't get it straight in my head exactly what your trying to achieve, however this might help. We have a Guest Wireless Network which runs on VLAN 60. The ports which have the ap's on are currently set up to be untagged on VLAN 1 (The default VLAN) and Tagged on VLAN 60. The configuration is then replicated across the network so that on all the uplinks, the ports remain untagged on VLAN 1 and are tagged on VLAN 60. This is by no means the best way to do it, however it works so, our proxy server which manages DHCP/DNS/Proxy has 2 NIC's in it, the one serving DHCP is plugged in to a port which is Untagged on VLAN 60 and is not tagged on any other VLANs, the other NIC is plugged into a port which is Untragged on VLAN 1. If I've got in my head right, you want all your uplinks to be Untagged on whatever your default VLAN is, however they need to be tagged with every other VLAN which you need to traverse across the uplinks. If you have your Uplinks trunked, then you will need to apply the Tagging to the trunks as well. Does that help? It might be a complete load of nonsense because my knowledge of this is very basic.

I don't think you need the /mir according to this KB? How to Use Robocopy to copy security information without copying any file data Not tried it though so probably try with a small test folder first. It is a little old though so may have changed... Edit: I should read properly before replying as you already tried what the KB says, so you should be right with what you're doing according to it.

Sounds daft, but do you get the same response if nothing is plugged in to the switch apart from your fibre uplink? Can't work it out from your post whether you've done that or not. If you have, it could of course be one of the fibre modules on either end if you haven't replaced them.

I haven't done the demotion yet, I'm just busy checking things ready to demote it tomorrow. Just trying to avoid any potential problems that may crop up. We are a single site AD all sat under the Default-First-Site.

Hi All I'm getting ready to demote the final DC that was here when I started which I've been putting off for quite a while now. Checking everything and getting ready to do it, I've spotted the delegated _msdcs under the domain.local DNS zone however in the delegation it only has this original DC listed. Couple of questions which I can't seem to find a straight answer too: Is it normal for it just to list a Single DC? Do I need to add my other 2 DC's to the delegation before demoting? Do I need to do anything else to look after this delegated zone? Any advice much appreciated.
