I'm trying to get a scheduled task to force-reboot computers weekly as my users do not reboot often; leaving RAM cluttered and updates not installed. I have a physical machine in a test OU, I can see the task being pushed to the machine via GPO in the task library; but it doesn't trigger. Even if I manually add a task to call shutdown.exe /r /f /t 60, and the time it's supposed to kick off passes, it doesn't start. Thoughts/ideas? I have it set to run as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and to run whether or not a user is logged in.

I have a fleet of laptops running Windows 11, and either a BIOS update or Windows update causes them to all of a sudden show up as unactivated with the "Activate Windows" watermark. They were all activated during deployment with a MAK key. That key is still valid. How can I "reactivate" these without haivng to touch each and every laptop? Would it make sense to try to convert my MAK to a KMS?

No, it's just user habit, and that's the default app. It's also why I hate when people send files as pictures instead of PDFs. They just need to print them, everything is easier as a PDF.

The problem files do open in Irfan View, Chrome, etc.

The machines are members of a domain. I am seeing this message on 2 computers, 1 of which is mine. I am the domain administrator, logged into the computer as the domain administrator. The user's computer is a member of the same domain, and the user is a domain user who happens to be a local machine admin on the machine she uses (for another program to work properly). The image files were sent by another user in our school, and they are downloaded locally. I even had the publisher of the pictures send them to me separately, thinking maybe something happened during the download. He sent me PDF versions, which I can open fine.

I'm wondering if any of you have had this problem with opening JPG files in Windows Photo Viewer. With certain pictures, a message comes up that says "Windows Photo Viewer can't display this picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Close some programs or free up some hard disk space and try again." Memory doesn't seem to be a problem as the machine has 7 plus GB usable. It basically tells you to remove any advanced color management profiles, reboot and try again. This does not work. Other pictures open as normal. I am leaning towards corrupt files, however I can open these pictures in Chrome or import them into Word documents. I've tried this on 2 different computers, same effect.

We purchased a Brother HL-2350DW for use with a set of Chromebooks and I am trying to configure it to print with the new CUPS method. The Chromebooks see the printer device, and are able to send jobs to the printer. The paper comes out blank. I can print reports from the printer, so I know it's got a good toner cartridge. I've tried socket://ip_address and lpd://ip_address, as well as PCL 5, 5C, 6/XL and PS. When it's set to PS, it doesn't do anything. I'm stumped. Anyone with any ideas?

Our human resources person is doing a mail merge from her payroll spreadsheet into a blank contract. When she goes to actually start the merge, Word hangs. I did a repair install of Word this morning. It's still hanging on this particular document. I've already tried copy/pasting both the sheet and document into new documents. It's still hanging. Any ideas?

Our business office uses a USB shared printer that prints portrait from all apps except for Chrome, and no matter what we do in Chrome, it prints all requests in landscape, no matter what site, from emails to reports from our financial system. No settings were changed, all driver settings are set to portrait. Any thoughts?

I am getting this message on my administrator's workstation. The GPO that affects my computer isn't configured for store. Any thoughts? All I'm trying to do is get my calculator back.

As I prep for the new school year, the classroom computers are a couple of major build versions behind. Short of manually logging in and launching the update assistant, I can't seem to find a more efficient way to have them install these massive updates. WSUS doesn't seem to show them as available. Has anyone found a way to automate this? Can I download the latest build and create an MDT task sequence to install? I don't want to have to re-create my images every few months when MS releases a new build, and have to keep re-imaging the machines.

Anyone have a good GPO or script to force an idle user's session to log off after say 30 minutes of inactivity, so that another user can log in without having to restart the computer? I purposely disable fast user switching because it sucks resources.

I have SUS set up and successfully installing the small updates, but I can't seem to find these large, hour plus long updates to push through SUS. Will SUS do that or does each machine need to go out to MS?

As much as I wanted to resolve the issue, time is of the essence here, it's not a large image, so I decided to re-create it from scratch. It captured and is now deploying successfully.

I have an MDT deployment share that I have used for previous imaging deployments - Windows 7 a few years ago (successful), Windows 10 Education for offices and admins (few days ago I completed), so I created a new WIM for my classrooms/lab. I basically copied the TS from the office WIM which deployed, joined the domain, then silently installed Office 2016 successfully to install my new academic WIM. The image itself deploys normally, and it logs in with administrator account like it wants to continue, but doesn't join the domain or install my app, much less give me an on-screen error. Doesn't seem to be driver related, there's make/model crossover between the 2 different deployments. I even took the working TS and changed the OS to the classroom WIM. I can't seem to find any info of other people having an issue like this. Any ideas?

I found that same reg file, imported it to my registry and still don't see the option use photo viewer. Did you need to re-start the PC?

I have my print server on a Server 2012 system which is x64, and my client machines are x86s. Under Windows 7, I was able to install the type 3 drivers for the printer in question - a Xerox WorkCentre 5875. I am beginning to roll out Windows 10 to my clients and those machines are not getting the mapping for this printer. So I downloaded the latest driver, a V4 driver, installed it for both architectures on the server, tried both updating the driver on the existing printer and creating a new printer object with same IP address, and adding it to the GPO, and neither worked. I can manually add the printer to the computers, but that defeats the purpose. Any ideas? I tried using GPP as well, same result. Drivers are package aware.

Found it. I needed to add something to the registry.
