I would be happy if they just implemented these! These are musts in my opinion for the next version.

[sims] SOLUS 3 Summer 2 to Autumn 1 or 2? Plus errors.
MrMat replied to chriscubed's topic in MIS Systems
Be careful with that. Autumn Version 1 actually contained two database updates, 114 AND 118. I would advise against just upgrading to 114 as Capita obviously made a mistake with it hence why 118 is included too. If you want to stay on Autumn V1 then just deploy to 118 and 114 will be included. Autumn Version 2 takes you from 118 to 122. -
Ohhhh I sure do love Graphic Novels. My recommendations are as follows: Watchmen - Already mentioned several times. I feel its aged a little but it's still a fantastic read. Contains probably one of the best comic book/superhero characters ever – Rorschach. V for Vendetta - Again a fantastic read written by Alan Moore same as Watchmen. Don’t judge the book by the movie as the film only covers the first chapter of the book. The book goes into much more detail regarding the state of Britain and delves much deeper into the two main characters of V and Eve. The Boys - Great series. An alternative take on the superhero genre where masked heroes are ten a penny and have let the power go to their heads (similar idea to Watchmen but in a completely different style). It's hilarious, witty, engrossing and violent! It focuses on a group of folks with hero-esk abilities who work for the government. Their job is to ‘deal’ with masked superhero’s when they step out of line. Y the Last Man – Think this one has already been mentioned too but it’s a really good read. Quite clever and very witty. Focuses on a chap called Yorick and his pet monkey Ampersand who happen to be the only two living males left on the planet after a plague whips out everything on earth with a Y chromosome! Locke & Key – Probably my favourite series. It’s absolutely brilliant. It’s drawn to perfection, the writing is superb and it’s fantastically creative. It falls into the horror genre but don’t let that put you off if horror isn’t really your thing. It’s about the Locke family who move into an old mansion. Within the mansion are hidden keys which open special doors allowing for all kinds of unusual things to happen. Honestly it’s hard to describe but it’s brilliant! The first in the series is only about £2 on kindle so if you have a tablet, give it a go. Batman – If you’re after a Batman novel to read I would recommend either The Dark Knight Returns (an olde but a goodie!), Killing Joke (great Joker story but a little short, contains some great artwork and Joker monologues though) or Death of the Family (my personal favourite, another Joker story which is very dark but a really great read). Could go on but I will stop there!! All the above are available via Amazon or ForbiddenPlanet (who have a store in Birmingham btw!)

Not sure on 7.155 but we installed 7.154 at a school which is still predominantly using XP and we didn't have any issues so you should be fine.

[sims] [SOLUS3] - SIMS Autumn 2013 v1 Pulled - SIMS client no longer auto-deploying?
MrMat replied to Rawns's topic in MIS Systems
What version are you upgrading from mate? Are you trying to go from a Summer release straight to V2 or have you already deployed Autumn V1 and are now going to V2? -

To be fair though, that sounds more like a permissions/network/settings issue rather than a SOLUS issue. If the service is failing to start I would assume that it's something blocking it or it's been changed to manual start rather than automatic etc. Also, if it's the fact that the service is simply not starting rather than it being completely dead, you can remotely access a machines services (Administrative Tools - Services - Connect to another computer...) to start the service manually (depending on network/permissions again).
-
As above! Alternatively uninstall the agent before the name change, perform name change, re-add machine using new name. If the name change has taken place before you had chance to uninstall the agent (and consequently you are now unable to uninstall using the DE because of the name change) you can easily uninstall the agent remotely using CMD/WMIC wmic /node:**COMPUTER NAME** product where name="SOLUS 3 Agent" call uninstall /nointeractive Once finished, remove the now offline agent from DE and then re-add using new name.

[sims] SOLUS3 - Reset 'Install Active' Agents Utility by Matt40k
MrMat replied to Rawns's topic in MIS Systems
Wahey! Top work Matt40k, very much appreciated. -
In need of some advice please guys and gals. Secondary school with a new server running Windows Server 2012 and SQL 2008 R2 is getting the following error when some users try to log in: Restarting the server seems to fix the error temporarily however after a few hours it seems to start rearing it's ugly head again. Both TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled. Server has plenty of RAM etc. Any ideas on this one? I'm stumped. Thank you.

Isn't that usually Incompatible Database?

Of course it will be the games fault! You can tell just by reading that article: Hey everyone, this guy just got robbed and stabbed for his copy of Grand Theft Auto!! ps. He also had his watch and phone stolen.

Picked my copy up at lunch wooo! Think I will be making the most of 'Flexi' time this afternoon...

[sims] Exams module - create OMR sheet for Curriculum Year group
MrMat replied to MrMat's topic in MIS Systems
Just in case anyone is interested. I had a response from Capita regarding this: 'As it is not possible to add a supervisor to a National Curriculum Year Group you will not be able to create an OMR sheet using this filter. You will need to select another group.' Why it's even an option within the Exams module then I do not know but there you go. -
[sims] Exams module - create OMR sheet for Curriculum Year group
MrMat replied to MrMat's topic in MIS Systems
They have a supervisor/HOY allocated for year 11 on the pastoral structure however the error refers specifically to the curriculum year group. They are unfortunately two different things. If you go Focus -> School -> Pastoral Structure -> Current Structure -> Expand 'National Curriculum Year Taught In'. You will see Curriculum Year 11 however you cannot allocate a supervisor. I believe this is what's causing the issue. -
[sims] Exams module - create OMR sheet for Curriculum Year group
MrMat posted a topic in MIS Systems
Can it be done?! I've had a school contact me today advising that when they try to generate a OMR sheet for year 11 they are greeted with the following error: 'Errors occured while creating OMR sheet(s). No Supervisor present for Group: Curriculum Year 11.' I was always under the assumption that you cannot assign a supervisor to Curriculum Year groups? Or am I missing something? Why have this as an option within the exams module if it cannot be done? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Alex -
I'm having the same trouble Rawns. Only noticed it recently. Are you still on 3.5 or have you taken the plunge to 3.6?
-
Scratch combined with a Makey Makey is a brilliant combination!

Thanks for the update Phil. Hopefully you guys manage to resolve the issue soon. I must ask, why were we not advised of this earlier? Most people using SOLUS3 work within the ICT industry to some level so will appreciate that on occasion hardware fails. A lot of the animosity coming from us is because we are constantly being left out of the loop. It’s broke, now it’s fixed again, ohh nope it’s broke again, yay now it’s fixed etc. I acknowledge that a lot of people aren’t happy with SOLUS3 so will use any excuse to kick up a fuss (rightfully so) however if you guys were more transparent with your information maybe there wouldn’t be such uproar when things go wrong. Just a suggestion…

Quick heads up for anyone that missed it. Posted today on SupportNet: 'Solus 3.6 release date now 16th August Due to the recent issues with the hosted SOLUS3 servers we have made the decision to change the release date of SOLUS3.6 to Friday the 16th of August.'

Progress at last! Looks to be back online now (for the moment at least). Edit: DOH! Now it's back off again

As above, I'm still getting the 'Unable to define target type' error.

[Film] Gravity [George Clooney, Sandra Bullock et al]
MrMat replied to 6Foot2's topic in Other Stuff
Sandra Bullock in a serious sci fi thriller? Really?! Personally I think it's horrible casting which is a shame as the premise has a lot of potential. Even just watching the trailers make me want to put my ears in a blender! Her voice is unfortunately rather infuriating. -
I'm not sure about the FZ20 but I used to have an FZ38 and it was a decent little camera to start with. I ended up selling mine for just over £100 so if you were to look around you might be able to pick one up for a similar price. I will add that of course you can get nice shots with a bridge camera however anyone 'into' photography will soon find themselves outgrowing their bridge camera and wanting to upgrade. They are pretty awful in low light conditions, they aren't great with anything fast moving (sports, moving kids etc), they generally don't have large enough apertures to get decent portraits and they are ergonomically cumbersome and slow etc. Also I've been doing photography for a few years now and I still don't feel as though I'm good enough to sell my images. Don't think photography is a nice easy way to make some money because it's not. Getting good at it takes a whole heap of time and effort. You don't want to end up here www.youarenotaphotographer.com
