Hey guys, So recently i have set up a 2012 R2 Secondary DC on my network, to replace an old 2003 DC. Users desktops and start menus were redirected to the old server, but are now redirected to the new server. I have updated all GPO's and logon scripts to point clients to the new server etc. I have a small handful of PC's that will not look to the new server for the desktop and start menu. I have done gpupdate /force, all scripts changed and GPO's are even replicating with new redirection settings to the old server, but still clients look at the old folders...why!? Driving me insane! Ok i am activated now, activated over the phone in the end. What do i do now to get windows 7 clients to look to KMS? The SRV record in DNS for KMS is in place.

Thanks for getting back to me guys. I have checked the firewall, but KMS is enabled, and as a test i turned the firewall off completely. I still get this security error though. I am logged on as Domain Administrator.

Good morning, I have recently set up a 2012 R2 DC on my network, as part of a network upgrade from XP to 7. I am in the process of installing KMS for windows activation. I have installed the Volume activation Tools role on the server, and go through until i click "commit" to activate the KMS host, but i get a security error (please see attached image). Why do i get this error? i can't seem to find a decent guide on how to set up KMS for windows 7 on server 2012 R2, and i am new to KMS. Anything else i need to do before this, or anything i need to check when installing? Thanks in advance, Regards Harry

I have just seen an update from Openhive - they have now set up the system so you can auto discover email settings in outlook - i use 2010 and now it works for me!

I have this problem, only i am running 2012 R2. I only have the issue on my XP clients! My windows 7 clients work no problem. I can access the file shares by using "\\10.0.0.1\share rather than \\filesrv1\share". I haven't installed updates recently.

Would it work with the UF45 projector mounts? We have been offered UF70 projectors for our school and i need to know if the mounts are similar.

I haven't tried this, i will give this a go soon. Trouble is, its a very temperamental problem, sometimes it logs off, and other times it shuts down. Non-admin users have the power button set to log off and all other options (hibernate, sleep, lock etc) disabled. Administrator users have no bower button setting, so the default is shutdown. Harry

Good afternoon, I have recently found an issue with the vast majority of computers on my network. When users (admin or standard user) click logoff on the start menu, the computer actually shuts down, as if you had clicked shutdown? Has anyone else had this problem, or know how to resolve it? We have around 400 computers on our network, and over half of them are affected. It is getting very annoying now, as we like to keep the PCs on during the day. Any help is appreciated. I haven't had any of them issues yet (touchwood), the drive on the NAS has been mapped over a week now and no problems have been reported. I booted up a different windows 7 laptop, and had the drive map there absolutely fine, so it just seems to be this one PC that doesn't work. I also only have around 80/90 PCs being used at any one time so not a huge amount. Thanks for the reply! Harry

Hey guys, Recently i have implemented a Synology DiskStation 214+ NAS server at my school. In preparation for a server rebuild, i have moved data from a shared drive on a server, to the NAS, and edited my log on scripts to match the new mapped drive, but on a windows 7 pro client, it doesnt map. The CMD window comes up with System Error 58, and skips mapping the drive. The NAS is joined to the domain, and has had permissions set. I have all XP clients site wide, and they map the drive fine, it's just this one W7 client im using for testing that does it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Harry Greatorex

Thanks for the replies guys. The upgrade to 2012/2012 R2 is more of a personal thing as i like 2012. There really isn't much difference in the migration that i have seen, my main gripe is that as its such a new OS, i was worried if people had already done this step of a migration (2003 to 2012). My issue is as the Windows 7 roll out will be gradual, at any one time, there will be a mixture of XP and 7 clients. As long as Server 2012 still supports XP in GPO then i will be ok. Good Afternoon everyone, At a school I work at, there is a server 2003 DC running AD, DNS, DHCP, File Server, and Print Server, and we are planning to upgrade the network to windows 7 in the future, so we are building a new server. To make things simpler, we are just going to build a 2012/2012 R2 DC and make it primary DC. I have read an article (Step-By-Step: Adding a Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller to an Existing Windows Server 2003 network - Canadian IT Professionals - Site Home - TechNet Blogs) on how to migrate a 2003 network to 2012, but I would like to know if 2012 R2 has the capability to become a DC from a 2003 network and whether it will support some XP xlients. Ideally I would want to go R2 but server 2012 is fine. Are there any tips that I will have to take into account? Thanks in advance for any help. Best Regards Harry Greatorex

I have already tried regenerating the boot images - no help. I would want to avoid completely rebuilding the deployment share as there would be a lot of work involved getting it back up to scratch.

Hey Guys, Just recently, my WDS server has been asking for me to type in my deployment share when i boot into PXE. It never done this before, and i only have 1 deployment share. Oddly enough, it only does it on the 32bit boot image. If i boot into the 64bit boot image, it doesn't ask for the deployment share. I have attached an image for reference. It doesn't stop us from using WDS here, but it is annoying as there is no reason for it to come up. I have completely regenerated/updated the boot image so i can't see that being a problem. Thanks AlexB! That now works and i have printers installed via the script. Now my next hurdle...is it possible to have these scripts running at start up, as a start up script, rather than as log on? I have a fair few computer rooms that have printers, and i need them added by VBS, but all the users are in a separate OU so i cannot use them as logon scripts.

Right, after a bit of testing - my printer script is STILL not running. I really don't know what to do now. I have changed P+P restrictions to allow the drivers to be installed, and only from our print server, but when i log in it's not running. Any Ideas? Harry

Right, I tried the script i posted up on a test computer room, but the script didn't seem to run automatically with the GPO i created, only when i ran it manually. Any idea why this is? Harry

Hey guys, At th secondary school i work at, we currently use group policy to deploy printers to classrooms, but lately we are frequently seeing the printers not adding. In some rooms, the printers will add on one day, but not the next, it's very temperamental. My manager has asked me to see if we could assign printers using startup/logon scripts. The network is using 2 Server 2008 R2 DC's, with a R2 print server. All clients are Windows 7 - with a mixture of 32bit and 64. Fortunately, i also work at a primary school, which uses scripts to deploy printers. I have looked at the GPO for printer deployment, and the printer scripts are running from User Configuration\Windows Settings\Scripts (Logon/Logoff). When i "edit" the scripts, it says this... ' ' Printers.vbs - Windows Logon Script. Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\printserver\Printer" objNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\printserver\Printer" The difference is, the primary school network is still on XP, with a 2003 DC and print server. Will this method still work for a windows 7 network with 2008R2 DC's, with a seperate print server? Thanks in advance for any information. Regards Harry Greatorex
