Its usually me that's missing something mm.. this sounds like the way I used to bodge things when I ran Win98SE workstations! On my home machine, (only one I've installed it on so far) - if I look at desktop icon properties it says the .exe resides in C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Local\Programs\scratch-desktop Are you saying just copy contents of this whole folder to say c:\scratch-desktop on each machine? How would it end up in each machines program menu? woosh.... PS I know just about enough about network program deployment to know that if I can supply an MSI, the firm that setup new server and Win10 machines over the summer can quickly remote in and deploy it for me

I was having a problem using T'internet on a computer in a school I was doing a code club in and for some reason I was gravitated to checking proxy lan settings and it had the old proxy.lancsngfl.ac.uk:8080 settings in the Removing them and T'internet was fine. My memory is right in that there is no need for any proxy settings anymore? - it was all changed to use a trasnsparent server ages ago wasn't it? Or was it just co-incidence that when i removed them - the T'internet started working again???? Simon (more confused than I ever used to be)

For doing IoT stuff primarily - passing messages between devices MQTT has easy to use Python client library but needs a broker to act as central clearing house. I'm looking to try and get an app built to just pop one up on demand to save hassle of sticking holes in the firewall but thought I'd better check what current status of accessing one in the cloud just in case its easier. MQTT brokers exist on T'internet normally using port 1883 Do you block access to them?

Hopefully their is enough info on the Pibrella page for you - Its my favourite addon VFM board so it all should work - note - there was a major bug fix issued on Saturday to do with motors The bug was motors would just stop responding (without any error message and everthing else would still work) This was due to the way the underlying python library didn't like being turned off and on more than 380 times! The bug has been bypassed by not actually switching them off when motor set to 0 - I effectively send out a very (very) long pulse instead that stays at 0 and never goes high Simon

Retiring from all school stuff

After many years at the front line, I'm retiring from the fray. I've tried to deal with the changes but Win19m build 87664,3342,545 has pushed me over the edge! In all seriousness, I'm packing in my meagre efforts at keeping things running in primary schools in South Lancs. To say that the job would be impossible without Edugeek is a given. The ability to call upon the combined might of Edugeekers has gotten me out of many a tight spot. Trying to remember doing the job before Chris and Shaun set this place up is like trying to remember what it was like washing clothes in the stream at the bottom of my garden. I'd like to thank (nearly) everyone for all the help and assistance over the years and the friendships made with Edugeekers at the conferences. [i said nearly as I've had my share of battles with some right plonkers on here and I don't like being two-faced ] Good luck to all of you in the future :-) regards Simple Simon

Well it that works - I'd consider that a workable workaround So how do I enable it ......

All the computers are wireless Give me strength!!! How many years and OS iterations has MS had to get app deployment right. If I want an app on my phone - I can logon onto t'internet on any computer - select the app from the store and deploy it to my phone (which can be anywhere in the world) and have it installed automatically. It shouldn't be an order of 1000 times harder to deploy an msi to a bunch of computers on the same LAN!!!!!!!! And people wander why I stuck to using WPKG automated script deployment and avoided MS domain management for all these years!!!! :-)

Gawd knows what i did but I've managed to get WindowsKey-E and WindowsKey-R working So I've managed to manually install Scratch on 1 of the machines Not going to be a productive method since I had to enter the Administrator name and password twice to get it to install but at least I have some method of installing an msi - - - Updated - - - Going home - back again next week!

??? When I look at share and security permissions on the MSI folder - I don't have an authenticated computer option to add - the only thing starting authenticated is authenticated users I presume I'm looking in wrong place?

I've got run on the menu but it give the restriction msg if I click on it! Progress (of some sort on MSI deploy) 1 laptop (and 1 only) has installed my MSI - none of the others yet though!

Is it possible that this domain hasn't been fully configured to allow installing msi's via GPO? The GPO restrictions are working !!!! (Unfortunately) - I'm hoping to find where windows key-R is disbabled before half-term

Oops - I'd already removed it! Never mind - live and learn I've found an option that says Group Policy Update and it then offered to update 27 computers - yippe I thought - pressed it and got 27 errors 26 of them say the remote procedure call was cancelled 1 said RPC server is not available The logon scripts idea is looking better and better option but I feel I should try and do this "properly"

So the 1st answer to my question on how to use GPO to deploy msi's is don't!!!!!! #lol

1st question - I want to deploy an updated package previous was crumblexxxx.msi - now I want to update all computers to crumbleyyyy.msi I've found a shared folder with old msi in it so I've put new one their as well Now I've found a gpo called Deploy Crumble with the old msi in it 've Do I 1. Ignore this and create a new object and deploy that 2. Just add in new msi 3. delete old msi entry something else PS I've just sucessfully removed C drive restriction on curric computers so I've got some grasp of how to do stuff but its the little details that elude me

I've just taken over a school that has one of these newfangled domain windows server setups that I've sucessfully avoided for 15 years So be gentle with me as I ask the REALLY basic questions. Worse still - its server2012 with Win8 type interface Simon

Forward movement 1. When I set up Unfi Controler initially - it conflicted with SIMS - so I shut sims down - installed unifi - got my 2APs working - then rejigged system.properties to alter ports from 8xxx range to 9xxx range it turns out that the APs didn't seem to recognise this change and today when I SSHed into one of them - its "inform" port was still set to 8080 and not 9090 - changed it and it goes green in controller display (the remote bridged one doesn't respond to this approach so I may have to reconnect it to the LAN and do it - but I'll leave it alone today as Head/Deputy are both working in the office that needs it. 2. Why wouldn't the new AP show up? Because the spare port on the wall in the IT suite isn't actually connected to the LAN back at the cabinet! - silly me for assuming So I'm mostly back in business - only 2 hours up the swannee Think I'll go home early
