I've had a bad experience at lvel three, but don't let that sway you am apprenticship definately gets your foot in the door. At level 3 I was studying the MCSA I would highly recommend the Microsoft route for a bigger salary. So in conclusion I would say level 2 covers the basics and is very straight forward however its a bit of a shock when level 3 comes around as personally speaking the microsoft qualifications took me by surprize

I think it sounds like a load balancing issue we've had this before as well. I would get them all running and doing something bandwidth intensive with them and making a note of the ones that disconnect, once they are all reconnected again try the same thing again and see if the same ones disconnect. Do the devices all have the same netowrk card it may (but unlikely) be the one network card is just that that powerful. I would also make sure that the wireless card in device manager has its option unticked for power saving, and also check any wireless manufacture software have no power settings configured there as well. If it is a load balancing problem I would suggest buying a solution (if wireless is used of a large scale) we're with a company called Meru

Hi Everyone, We have laptops that at the moment are on vanilla XP, now that we are migrating to CC4 we would like to get our laptops also working on CC4 however.... The laptops need to be used on trips occasionally which means they will need to be disconnected at some point. So for some further information I have looked through the RM documentation to see how RM achieve this, unfortunately there is little to no documentation for laptop builds and after a few phone calls I found out that RM use something called RM Synchronise which seems suspiciously similar to Microsoft Offline files. Anyway, the process that the students would need to go through is as follows: Onsite 1. Log onto the laptop so that their profile is cached. 2. Open their N drive and locate the files they plan on using. 3. Select, right-click the files and make them available offline. 4. Log off and shutdown, make note of the laptop Offsite 1. Use the same laptop as before and logon 2. Open your files that you have made available offline 3. Edit the files, log off, shutdown. Now when the students get back onsite they will need to connected to the network and logon, aparently there are known performance issues with this and students have the option to make thier whole N drive available offline. Our laptops connect to our network via a wireless connection now imagine all 20 or so students doing this some of which are synchonising their whole n drive. In conclusion we're now looking into redirecting the My Doc's folder locally and leaving the N drive mapped then all they have to do is copy thier files across. (we thought of USB sticks but there easily lost). Does anybody know how to achieve a My Docs redirect on CC4?

Hi Everyone, The title is slightly misleading more of a tip than a trick, but anyway: We've been having problems getting some laptops to build on CC4 because they are "too old" and therefore have no Vista drivers available which are needed to kick off a CC4 build. We got around this by using a Belkin F5D5050 (USB to RJ-45 connector) there is a driver available on their website that works on win2k, XP and vista. We then: 1. Generated a build disk with the above imported driver and burnt to CD. 2. Plugged the device into the usb port. 3. Plugged the RJ-45 cable into the device. 4. Booted from the CD and hey presto we have CC4. Most of you probably know this already but thought it was worth a post.

We've had problems with RIS in the past and have now moved to Acronis Snap Deploy which is a whole new world of pain. We're now looking into Ghost has anyone had any success with this, sorry I'm hijacking the post.

What method of deployment do you use?

Just out of interest what deployment method do you have in place? e.g. Ghost imaging, Microsoft RIS, Acronis *Cough* snap deploy?

How do you deal with anoying/rowdy students? Somehow some students got hold of a nickname of mine and have been shouting it as I go by, so I had enough and said my name is "insertname", OK! They nodded so they understood now they keep saying it as I go by because I let them know I was anoyed rather than telling them shouting is inappropriate. So what would you do next?

I guess this doesn't really count but i'm just learning to walk with PHP so I decieded to give myself a project of creating a CMS still working on it though, fingers crossed.

Nearly all the issues previously menioned we've been having too, it's very porrley designed software. Users can change their username and the Tab key doesn't work on their logon screen so you can quite easily enter your password in the username box letting the world see. There is a patch availalbe (but in my opinion it still doesn't fix everything): ICT 4 Life Support pages Here's their support no: 0845 313 8888 Their recent patch (Nov 09) did not seem to resolve a good majority of problems so after a few phone calls there now sending us a disk containing a new install and many more patches Only problem is everything needs to be wiped e.g. user accounts and course records. They currenly have no way of backing up the data! Oh well maybe after the patch...

Hi Everyone, I should of posted back to say this issue has been resolved, it was sometime back and i'm not sure exactly how I resolved the problem. I think I run the setup as administrator to make UAC happy then had to go into services and make sql, apache etc all start automatically. Cheers, Martin

Sorry guys, I should of mentioned that I have tried a path rule for this application but it would still not allow me to run the program, even with workstation security turned off. I got it to work once by: 1. Creating a copy of the normal user type for students. 2. Modified the new user type to make the user exempt from software restrictions. 3. Logged on as the user and run the program. I then spoke with RM again about this but it had them stumped.

Hi everyone! I am a Technician at Sir James Smith's Community school, Cornwall. I know a lot of people here have used Dance 2005 for Schools (network version) and some say they have theirs working. From previous posts here it seems people have got it working by putting it on a share. We use a RM CC3 environment, we had vanilla PC's with music software on because RM permissions issues. We now have needed to get these PC's on the CC3 evironment and we have had a number of problems with creating a package for "Dance 2005 for schools" This lead me to create a share on the network creating the dance 2005 software, I can run it as an admin but not as a student. If anybody has got this to run successfully please reply to this post (especially if you are running a RM CC3 environment)

I'm thinking about MCSE 2003 should I wait and take MCSE 2008?

I put this down to two possible causes (WAMP is running on vista for me): ISP Blocking port 80 for incoming connections OR What I found is that my Wireless router needed port 80 open, and so did the antivirus. There is probably an option on yor router to enable web server or something... ...that is if you are using it at home. oh by the way ignore the WAMP icon saying its offline, it doesn't work anyway. open the services snap-in and make sure both WAMP-SQL and WAMP APACHE or HTTP server are running and set to automatic (WAMP didn't do this for me)
