Biometric fingerprints - polish school fined!
Jaymate replied to Jaymate's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Yes that is what probably highlighted the use of it but it also says “Moreover, in the authority’s view, the use of biometric data, considering the purpose for which they are processed, is significantly disproportionate.” which sounds like they are saying to use collect and use biometric data just to manage school lunches isn't an appropriate reason to collect and process biometric data on children when there is alternative solutions. -
RDS - Firewall Ports Needed to run online
Jaymate replied to kostascoffee's topic in Windows Server 2019
Hi, Having just been involved in a recent RDP attack i would make sure you have it all setup and secured befoe you open up any ports. This article may help https://www.mcafee.com/blogs/other-blogs/mcafee-labs/rdp-security-explained/ Also another piece of advise is to change the default ports to disguise it. -
Hi, Just wondering what people do when they need to do a DPIA on a piece of software or activity. Do you start from scratch each time or is there a repository of ones people have already completed somewhere that can be adapted to the individual school. I am aware of school to school links where some schools share DPIA's that they have done with each other so that the other school can use that as a starting point to consider the risks etc in their school. It feels silly that each school has to start from scratch each time and there isn't a central repository somewhere or the software suppliers themselves don't provide a template DPIA that helps tick some of the boxes for you. I know risks won't be the same in each school but it help see areas of risk that you haven't thought about or previously considered. If anyone knows where sharing is happening that I can tap into and contribute to please do let me know. Not a fan of re-inventing the wheel everytime when there is such good practice out there already.

Looking for Helpdesk software for my team
Jaymate replied to m0bov's topic in Learning Network Manager
We are just implementing topdesk. Great consultation to make you think about what info you want to get from it and look at how you set it up based on the services you provide. Drives users to use a self service portal to log calls that is totally configurable. Not live yet but experience so far it looks really good. -

Moving from Google to Office 365 - Migration Tips?
Jaymate replied to abillybob's topic in Cloud Services
We used cloud migrator - https://cloudm.co Can migrate either way and from a variety of sources. It will do all you asked for to my knowledge and also do education pricing. Give them a call to get the best pricing. We migrated all data up to 3 months prior in advance and tested and then did a delta on the weekend of the migration. Only thing to remember is to set the date range to at least a year in advance so that it picks up calendars items that have been set for the year (we got caught on that for one school). J -

What Interactive Touchscreens are people using?
Jaymate replied to CHSGM's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Just gone with the new smart mx range. Had a demo and look/feel great. Price not bad too! -
We Demo’d a board in our office the other day - size of a small classroom and high ceiling. Speakers were actually quite good and loud as now forward facing! We have just ordered 30 of them and going for the no additional sound bar approach as can always add one easily enough if it’s not loud enough in the real world. I’m aware it will sound different with 30 bodies in the room.
