Welli think i'm going to get them to buy a new server and put SQL 2012 on it, no point it going backwards may as well prepare for the future

We put an exception in for the CSC as this used to cause problems when staff took laptops home, nothing to do with SIMS but just FYI.

Did you remove the permissions before moving the files to a new location on the server ???

Good Morning Everyone, I am about to have a new finance system installed that requires full blown SQL 2008 R2 of higher, this is not a problem as I have to buy a SQL 2012 Standard Core licence and beleive it will cover me for 2008 as well. My question is has anybody any idea when Capita will be approving SQL 2012 for SIMS as rather than mess about setting everything up now then possibly upgrading to SQL 2012 in September if its imminent I might as well do it sooner rather than later. Thanks for that Patrick but after doing the sums I think I am going to push them to buy a new server to run all SQL applications, I had a quick flick through and its comes to around £2k for the licences, server, backup etc...

Good afternoon everyone, I am after a little advice if you don't mind please, (please bear with me) I have just spoken to PS Financials who are saying that I need full blown SQL Server 2008 R2 to run the finance program, the current server is Windows Server 2008 R2 but is a shared server already running express instances for; Sophos, FMS, SIMS, Backup Exec, Websense etc And im not sure it will cope well with full blown SQL, I do have in my possession the old server but it ran out of warranty around 6 months ago, it has a 2003 server licence on it so I could wipe it and reuse this for now (time is not on my side as thay are now arranging the install with speaking to me first). Is there anything I need to be aware of if I connect the 2003 server to the current 2008 domain ??? obviously it wont need DNS, DHCP etc on it but just wondered if there is anything I need to be aware of. All the single sites I have done before have only had 1 server so never needed to think about this before. Regards, Stan.

I have one to, put it in the staff room and its better than whats already there but not good enough for a classroom, looking at trying Ruckus in the classrooms though for a start its half the price and if its as good as they say it is. Only got mine about 3 weeks ago and yes you still get a 3 year licence with it.

We use it on the ipads and ipods but never seen it on a mac...

Thats what i was planning on doing just didn't know if they insisted on full blown SQL or not, the schools business manager will not be happy if they try to install it and can't.

I realise what your saying but it would have to be installed on a shared server thats allready running 2008 sql express for SIMS, FMS (for the moment), sophos, backup exec its also running DNS, DHCP, AD, Print Server etc etc etc... Not sure if it could cope with full blown SQL.

Good Morning Everyone, Just a quick one for the PS Financials people out there, will it run on 2008 SQL Server Express R2 or does it need full blown SQL, I have asked them the question as they want me to set this up ready but at the moment they havn't got back to me ???

Well I will be watching this thread with great interest as I to am looking at replacing the websense filtering and smoothwall is an option, at the same time I was also wondering wether or not to replace the Cisco ASA 5505 firewall or just leave it in place as its working fine.

I havnt spoken to the company yet or met them so I'm as much in the dark as you guys im afraid, i just wondered if anyone new of a guide to show me how to set these up as I dont want to look a PLEB if they ask me on-site. Is there any software or report that could be rin to tell me what ports are open ???

Hi Guys, Well the school will be using PS Financials from 1st April and they have sent the school a copy of the pre-installation booking form I have noticed on the form that the following ports need to be opened for it to work; TCP Ports, 135 for DTC 777 for Licence Service 80 for Web Portal (this should be ok as its the HTTP port) 1433 for SQL Is there any way I can check these ports are open as I have no experience with firewalls so not to sure about this, the server connects to the firewall via ASDM but Im not over sure what Im supposed to be looking for until I get my head round it. Thankls for the reply, Don't need a CCTV policy at the moment as the school doesn't have it as for data protection, not sure if I will do that one or not ??? will speak to the head and ask about that....

Good Morning Everyone, I do appologise if this is in the wrong area but when I take my new position up I want to ensure that the school has an IT policy for everything they should incase ofsted ever come asking. The school initially had a bodged up UAP which I have re-written, I have also created a 'disaster recovery plan' and a BYOD policy as well as a '3 year ICT plan', Is there anything else I should be looking at, I dont like to say 'overkill' I prefer 'futureproof' . Thank you for that, looks like were going to need some POE injectors as we do have cisco gig switches , sadley I dont think the room has the power for them so that will need sorting to .

Think I may have found the answer, just found a site and its suggested that they run at 12.9w, A PoE switch that can power 18 ZF7363 - Ruckus Wireless Forums just need to find out the maximum wattage the switch can handle now. *** UPDATED *** Found the info and it looks like it has a maximum of 154w per switch, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02601893&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_uken_c-001_title_r0001 This might make more sense as I found another site that says the switch runs at 15.4w per port not the 29.6 I had been told, this would work out at a max of 10 ap's per switch....

Good Morning Everyone, Just a quick question does anybody have any idea how many watts the 7363 AP requires for POE ??? We currently have 3 3-com Baseline Switch 2426 PWR Plus 24 port switches, which produces 29.6w per port is this enough to power the 7363 AP's ??? Will it also cause any issues as the ports are 10/100 and not GB. Regards Stan.

Hello there, Currently we have 24 Promethean IWB's in our classrooms, we are looking to replace all of these with LCD touch screens, my question is do we have to buy a new licence if we wish to keep active inspire or are we covered if we scrap the boards ???
