Hi Guys, I have a problem with Backup Exec 2010 R3, it hasn’t done a backup for around a week now it just says that in the job status that the server is paused. I have re-started the services to no avail, I then re-started the server but still it says the server is paused. I have just installed the updates that are available but still the same, has anybody got any idea how to clear this so that I can get a backup working again.

Hi Guys, I am trying to sort out a new desktop for the windows 7 clients and while I have managed to get the icons that I want on the desktop and all the other restrictions in place I require I seem to have inherited some icon that are not required, i.e. control panel, libraries and users folder is there an option via GPO I can get rid of these other than that everything is ticker-t-boo.

That would be great if you don't mind as all I have heard at the moment is the sales patter they give you, I have not actually seen it in live operation or anything. We will be mainly using it for its web filtering side of things at the moment, I am familiar with the Meraki dashboard so does it just link in with that ? Also is it a straight forward system to use as I have a so called technician that may need to administer the system if I’m not available. Also how does the firewall side of things work ? Is the system straight forward to setup VPN’s etc and are there any additional licence costs associated with that side of things ? I was told by the sales chap that the staff could take their own Meraki MR12 home plug it in and connect straight away but that sounds an expensive way of creating a VPN.

Hi Guys, I have just been told that on the1st April I will receive a budget of around £34K, there is also acertain amount to carry over from this financial year but I don’t know how muchat the moment. The budget I will receive is tocover all hardware purchases any networking that needs to be done, any IT SLA’sthat need to be taken out as well as any OS related licences that may berequired Good Points · We have around 615 pupils in the school. · There are 4 network cabs in the school each withCisco Gig switches in. · All staff with the exception of 5 have laptopsthat are less than 2 years old. · The KS1 IT Suite is only 2 years old and consistsof 25 pc’s. · All classrooms have had new projectors installedwhich are guaranteed for 3 years · The DC is less than a year old · The Finance server is brand new · We have 75 iPod’s and around 25 iPad’s Bad Points · The KS2 IT Suite consists of 30 pc’s that arearound 6 years old and desperate to be replaced. · The laptop trolley is also out of warranty andconsists of 30 Dell Latitude D531’s · The wireless infrastructure is appalling andconsists of around 20 En-Genius wireless-G AP’s I currently do not have any SLA’swith anyone although with the Local Authority no longer supporting any of ourschools I will have to arrange Web Filtering and AV, I am also looking into theEES licence and would be interested if anyone could tell me if this also coversMicrosoft’s AV solution ?? Sadly the budget will not allowme to replace all the bad points, cover the AV, EES and Web Filtering solutionsand still leave money left to cover the rest of the year. I have trialled the ruckussolution and on the older laptops it did not perform very well at all but thenewer one seemed to work fine. I am looking into upgrading the laptops in thetrolley for now with the aid of an extra 2GB RAM, SSD drives and new wireless-NWIFI adaptors, that will take around £3K of the budget off me but willhopefully prolong the life of the laptops until next financial year when I canbudget to replace them and re-locate the existing ones. This may then allow meto replace the wireless solution as well. What do you guys think what areyou experiences as I have never been in charge of a budget before.

Hi Guys, At school we have a Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall and we have paid for the licence to allow 25 concurrent VPN connections, I have a 2008 R2 App Server which I am setting up Webdav etc on to allow the ios devices to save to the network, I also have fingerprint installed to allow my printers to be air printers and thus be picked up by the ios devices. I am now at the position where I need to connect the ios devices via VPN to the ASA 5505, I have installed the Cisco Anyconnect software on the ipad and configured it but I receive an error message as follows; “The secure gateway has rejected the connection attempt. A new connection attempt to the same or another secure gateway is needed. Which requires re-authentication. The following message wax received from the secure gateway: No Licence” What have I missed, do I have to make some adjustments to the ASA etc ???

Hi Guys, I am after some recommendations please from those of you who have used them, I am looking to upgrade some old Dell Latitude D531’s that we have, there a little slow but with a little TLC can be improved. I am looking at 2GB RAM upgrades at around £47 each, 802.11n wireless cards are £12 each and will be looking for SSD’s, 64GB should be enough but 128GB is also an option there only for pupil laptops and at the moment less than 10GB is used on the drives. Hopefully with these updates the laptops will give me another year so I can budget for a new laptop trolley. Cheers Stan.

Just out of curiosity what OS have you got on the server, you do have the relevant adm's on there for Windows 7 don't you... -
Morning Guys Does anybody have any experience with the Mearki MX90; Meraki MX90 Cloud Managed Security Appliance We have been told that all 44 of our primary schools will be having there web filtering disconnected on the 8th April and will have to find something else, I have looked into quite a few solutions in case this happened but was offered the Meraki solution yesterday at a really good price for a 3 year licence An even better price for the Meraki MX80 but not sure if that will meet our needs.

One quick question Googlemad, I managed to send 2 successful test messages but when I went to try again the messages are just sat in the queue folder and won’t go anywhere, do you no why ???
-
Thank you so much you are a star , it would appear that all my configuration was correct it was the format the test email was going out on was not correct. The initial test emails have worked fine I just need PSF to connect and test it with the software now.
-
Thank you for that just re-installing IIS then will give it a go.
-
Yep that's exactly what I did but the test messages just keep going straight into the badmail folder.

Hi Guys, Not really sure if this is in the correct area or not but I am trying to setup an SMTP Server in IIS on Server 2008 R2 to connect to gmail I have followed various instructions like the site below; Setting up SMTP server in Windows .. to use Gmail All seemed to go well but when I try to send a test email it just goes straight to the ‘badmail’ folder, I presume this means it can’t connect to the SMTP at Gmail, can anyone please tell me if I have to set something up in the actual Gmail account, or is there a port on the Server \ External firewall I need to open ??? Been doing this for 2 days now and don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. Cheers in advance Stan.

Can anyone please give me some information, we have a new finance system installed PS Financials and I need to setup an SMTP relay from a google apps email account, I did everything I cold think of but they say its not working. Has anyone set one of these up before, is there any settings etc I need to check ???

Does anybody have any links to a good (idiots guide) tutorials as to the setting up of the smoothwall web filtering ??? We have been told by our local authority today that come the 8th April we will lose all central services as they will no longer be supporting schools at all, this means we will lose web filtering, anti-virus, vpn access, possibly internet connection as our DNS points to a central authority server. So now on top of everything else I have to deal with I now have all this to contend with as well, I am considering sophos for AV and smoothwall for web-filtering as both are provided by the YHGFL and I believe there pricing structure is excellent, so just VPN and DNS to sort after that.
-
Does anybody have any idea how to test the SMTP link in PS Financials, we had a company called Wanstor connect today and install the database on the server and he also did the client install to but on completion said the backup was our responsibility (as expected) but also that the SMTP relay was not working as it had failed the authentication. We are currently using google apps for education for the email system and I can log in with the account fine but they say it will need looking at by myself but have not given me any information on how to do this ??? I have emailed them but still no reply. This is all I need to get sorted now to complete the installation, or does anyone have any info on setting up SMTP in google apps for education in case I have missed something.

Hi guys, i was wondering if there was a way of connecting the iPads to a 2008 domain ? At Easter i am going to set up a 2008 member server on the domain to run IIS and Webdav, this should then allow the iPads and iPods to save work the children do on the network instead of the individual devices. i have also been told about a program called "fingerprint" that will enable almost any printer to become an iOS printer enabling all apple devices to print. but how do I get the devices to authenticate on the network, I appreciate they don't connect to AD so would some sort of VPN have to be configured ???
-
Nope no EES or anything the school just but licences as and when required, for a bit of an update though I have managed to find some draft 802.11n wireless cards for the laptops. They are apparently 2.4 and 5ghz so I have ordered 2 of them and if they work ok will order another 28 and see what happens.

We have always purchased Dell Latitudes and with the optional extras you can change the battery for a larger one thus lasting a lot longer, sadley though I think when we replace ours I will be looking elsewhere as Dells prices seem to be going up quite a bit.

Worked it out thanks guys.

Hi Guys, I am after a bit of advice please, our SBM has created an excel spreadsheet that covers the next 12 months, each month is represented on a single worksheet listing the outgoings of the budget finaly leaving the balance. The next worksheet starts with the balance being carried forward from the last, she would like a way of this being automated so if she amends one sheet it ammends the other and so on. Is there a formula or has anybody any idea of how you would do this ??? Regards Stan.

What can you do in this situation ??? I start my new job as Schools IT Manager on 1st April but have been there voluntary for the last 2 weeks (without pay I may add), after a bit of investigation and auditing the suite is 7 years old and waranties expired 2 years ago, the laptop trolley is also around 7 years old and is 3 years out of warranty, the wireless is an engenius system as follows and is a bag of bolts; EAP150 EnGenius Long Range Wireless 11n 150Mbps Ceiling Mount AP/WDS with Integrated 5dBi Antenna - Scan.co.uk the switches are out of date cisco units with a combination of 10\100 3-com units thrown in as well (need I say more), been told that the priority is to sort the wireless out but whats the point in having a good wireless and s**t laptops ?? Also just found out that the local council are going to give the school £30,000 that is owed to them to spen on IT (I can replace the laptop trolley and the IT Suite), but the head wants 10 LCD Touch Screens ????? What can you do it would appear that they want a mini turning into a porsche.
