  1. Anyone had issues with the SAML auth and G Suite - I keep getting a 403 error app_not_configured_for_user. I've followed their guide twice now but get the same outcome even after waiting for propagation. SchoolCloud are saying the issue is at Google's end but Google can't see an issue.
  2. It's in the admin console. You can adjust per AP or adjust on multiple APs in one go.
  3. One per class and you can adjust the power on the 2.4 and 5ghz bands - 5ghz tends to not travel well through walls so you can leave that set higher than 2.4Ghz.
  4. I suggest you get your SLT involved and go back to the council, decisions like filtering etc are something you really need their input into. In short the DfE expect you to filter onsite and offsite if you've given the student a device. They haven't necessarily made this a formal requirement but they certainly seem to expect it. If you can log into the Chromebook with any old gmail account then they're not going to be filtered - some local councils asked schools for the tenancy and applied licences for managing the Chromebooks to this. Some manage them themselves and give students accounts on their tenancy for use.
  5. Yes I teach as well as manage our infrastructure.
  6. It’s still great in a secondary!
  7. What percentage of buyers of MacBook Air or Macbook Pro 13" use 2 external displays? You're talking about an environment these laptops aren't really aimed at, in addition they do support multiple external displays you just need the adaptors. Apple will know their market, they will know how few people this will affect. Were you buying MacBook Air or MacBook 13 previously?
  8. Think you've just been unlucky there, we've got loads and had zero issues.
  9. But they can use dual screens - the laptop itself plus an external? My expectation is that you'd be looking at a single digit percentage of users who plug more than 1 external display into a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro 13.
  10. What percentage of owners of MacBook Air or MacBook Pro 13 do you think connect them up to anything more than a TV from time to time? - - - Updated - - - It's not really a massive show stopper is it though?
  11. That's a good price, it does look a nice laptop.
  12. We link using 10Gb DAC cables between switches for redundancy - spanning tree takes care of this so normally the links are disabled but if they lose their direct core 10Gb fibre feed they'll fail over to their DAC cable to a partner switch and therefore use the partner's 10Gb fibre link. So each edge switch has a direct 10Gb fibre link back to the core plus a 10Gb DAC link to a partner switch. No licences to pay for. 1 year standard warranty. If you want enhanced warranty or support you can pay for it and the major players in the Ubiquiti world such as 4Gon and the others listed on their website will offer this as well as the courses and certs if you want. We haven't bothered with additional support or warranties. I have a cold spare 48 port PoE switch, a 48 port non-PoE switch and an AP or 2 sitting on a shelf. I did read some of the course materials but I've never done the courses or the qualifications. It's really very straightforward. We host the controller on a VM on our HyperV cluster rather than paying for a CloudKey - we had the resource available it made sense to use it and have it be HA.
  13. We paid £283 for non-PoE 48 port switches and £560 for the 500w PoE 48 port switches. We paid £440 per 5 pack of APs which were AC-Pros and £212 for the AC-HDs (only a small number of these for high density areas like the main hall, dining room etc. Our Unifi setup has been rock solid, we've had zero problems with it. It was easy to install and configure. It was way cheaper than the other options and does everything we need including RADIUS.
  14. I’m not. He posted having looked at he liked it. I reaffirmed my like of it.
  15. We run Unifi switches at the edge - super cheap and well featured and handle all of the L3 routing, VLANs, ACLs etc on a pair of HPE 5940 switches at the core. 10Gb fibre from the core to each edge switch and then switches in the same cabinet are uplinked to each other using 10Gb DAC cables as a backup for if the fibre feed/transceiver to that switch dies.
  16. No and I get that but I am thoroughly sick of the sheer number of people who will say Unifi is missing important features or "things" without then giving any details. It's become a major problem in the market with not only sales people doing it but our colleagues in schools putting people off a perfectly good product with ambiguous FUD.
  17. That's a more useful comment than the generic "things". No it cannot but few would need that which is why it's not offered - tunneling all the traffic back to a controller is quite an old fashioned way of doing it and for most setups is less efficient.
  18. It goes without saying and he clearly is investigating himself.
  19. I've seen this many times with Unifi - the comments on "things" not being available which when you ask further is then met with silence. The industry is massively resistant to a new cheaper player.
  20. Yes it is per machine.
  21. Earlier on in the thread you started with your scaremongering and then continued it there. Oh and just to address a previous point in your scaremongering, there is a certification path for Ubiquiti too and support/warranty is available for a price but frankly it's so much cheaper you can afford several cold spares. Obviously you do your research, that goes without saying. Pointing someone to large vendors like you have I can tell without even needing to call them exactly what they'll say - the same old scare tactics to convince you to spend much more on a "top tier" manufacturer.
  22. We allow staff to use biometrics to log in to their domain account.
  23. No matter how much you have to pay it's a rip off - SIMS need to sort themselves out and fast otherwise it's bye bye market share.
  24. No no, you're totally wrong, Nick Gibb says schools are safe as houses so that cannot possibly be true. /sarcasm
