Hi there I've got one mac that is proving a little troublesome with the proxy server. It seems it's set correctly in Network and preferences like all the other macs.......it's getting it from the server. It will go on the internet if I take the proxy server off but not if I put it on. I've tried using the Ip address of the proxy server rather than a name but had no joy. It's happening for all users. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

Hi. I am getting 'Final Cut is in use' on our Imacs - fast using switching is enabled. One pupil opens it, then another switches with Fast User switching and it reports that message. Is there anyway of preventing this other than turning off fast user switching? I am guessing not .....thanks for your advice.

Hi there I've noticed if a user as Final Cut X open and you go to another user with Fast User Switching it reports Final Cut is already in use. Is there any way of getting around this issue ? It's an issue as the kids forget to close it down then someone else logs in. I Thanks

Oh thank you. As it happens I upgraded his Outlook client and this seemed to do the trick - it came up asking for new certificate stuff .....so I accepted all the notifications.

Hi. Thanks for your help. I tried to remove the account in outlook, re-added it. No luck. Tried giving him a new identity. No luck. I've double checked the password and it's ok on Outlook Webmail.

Hi there We changed out certificate on the Exchange server yesterday. There's one user here that's having problems. It's yellowed out in Outlook 2011and it won't take his password. I've tried removing the Outlook account and re-adding and had no luck. I deleted the Keychain Exchange entry and re-tried - still no luck. Bit stuck! Thanks for your advice.

Just to say there is no AD involved in this mac network.......................................just OD. I will try a manual IP instead of DHCP to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks everyone. It is a weird problem. It could be the network card on the mac / we were going to re-image it to see. I will report back - anyway all very helpful thankyou.

Hi I've got a dodgy Mac ....it is taking 30-40 mins to get to the Network Accounts Green Light. It's only this mac having an issue. I've rebooted our Mac server...... It seems to be faster when I put it on Wireless but can't say for sure.... I've plugged a windows laptop into the network point and can ping quickly.....and logon to our windows domain quickly......can anyone suggest some other things I can check please? Thanks.

Hi there We came across a conundrum today.......brought up an interesting question. We've imported users into Workgroup Manager from a CSV from AD......but what to you do if you wish the users to be able to set their own passwords? At the moment they have all been given the same one......can they set it themselves? Sorry if this is an obvious question, couldn't see how to do it. Thanks

I haven't seen this one Ian but we have had IE 11 issues to deal with...........like searching and not being able to go back after you've searched......and people not being able to access favorites from the list......(sorry if that's not the correct way of spelling it!) - I think it's something to do with group policy as ours isn't happening for admins.....anyway sorry to derail a bit! Never had problems with IE 10....

Just to add we have 'Notability' on the Ipad but I think what the teachers want is a side bar to annotate rather than just on the page........if I find anything I will post it up!

Hi there I'm just on the hunt for suggestions regarding some annotating software for Ipads that teachers might be able to use....something that might let you draw on the Ipad with a pen.............we want to be able to open Word docs or preferably Google Docs then save them back again easily to Google Docs. I wonder if there's anything that might OCR as well....just thinking out loud there. From my brief surf so far on the net most are saying you need to convert to PDF first.......I've come across Iannotate.....can anyone suggest anything please? Thanks

Hi there I'm trying to track down something ( perhaps it's in group policy ) that is stopping us from uploading images to blogger. Sorry it's one of those horrible questions that's difficult to solve! If we could use Chrome then life would be easy but we have to use IE..........life would be so much easier without IE 11.....it has caused so many issues/time here for us. When you try to upload an image to a blog in IE11/Windows 7 as a student / teacher here the image uploading bar goes up but then it doesn't actually let you add the image........IE freezes........what is meant to happen is another image resize window pops up after that. I've tried to disable popups in IE, add blogger in the whitelist........you name it..........but had no luck. It's a user based thing as it works as an admin.........can anyone hint where I might be able to look please......it's got to be something in group policy............ Thanks for your help....I'm lost now to know what to try (unless I start from scratch with group policy which isn't really going to help).

That's great zwilliams thanks........very useful. In that example the app is assigned to a user - whereas in school we wouldn't do that....as the Ipads are used by many kids....can you still push it out silently I wonder?

Hi I have come across this problem a few times before.... On a few occasions I've tried to delete/archive local users from OS X ( Mountain Lion and Mavericks) and after you wait ages (with spinny wheel) it says 'cannot delete user'. No matter how many times you try it - it never works. Has anyone else had this problem at all? Thanks

Hi there Not long to go until our Easter break eh! I am forever having to go to machines and install software in a repetitive manner....and this is always true during school holidays. We had varying degrees of success with Orca....but sometimes you just can't MSI stuff properly. I've looked at so many macro type programs....is there a good one you can recommend please? I would prefer it so if you move a mouse and enter keystrokes it mimics it on all the other pcs......at the same time ( rather than running some kind of macro ). Any suggestions greatly welcome....just something simple and possibly free if it exists! Thanks

Why not use Veaam for all of them? I was wondering about what happens when it goes belly up.......although with Raid 1 and Raid 5 it's not such a worry....

Hi We are experimenting around with Visualizing our servers......with VM Ware. It's quite interesting I reckon. We thought we would try to install SQL into a Virtual machine.........and put IIS on there.....inside the virtual image itself. What is the best way of backing this up would you say? Do you backup the whole image everyday ( or can you suggest another way? ). Virtual machine images can be very large.....can you capture them incrementally or should one be backing up the files themselves rather than the whole image? Thanks for your input....

This thread is proving very informative thanks everyone.....it's interesting to hear your experiences. Sometimes with Meraki ( and this is not singling them out ) the apps just don't get pushed out to Ipads even thought you tell it to do so - sounds like a similar issue abillybob has with his silent installs.....I am going to have to have a think about all your comments as we have redeemed all our codes ( so if we move over to server based App installation with Profile Manager then as I understand we can't move them over) - I'll have to have a read about it from the links you have sent.. It would be nice to be able to use Apple Configurator and have the same Apps on every Ipad ( like you would image a pc ) but in the real world this isn't going to happen and people ask for odd extra apps from time to time...so the Ipads are different....
