  1. Hi there Really struggling with this one.... I'm trying to remove the spelling entry from the Quick Access toolbar in Excel 2010 and tried stopping the keyboard shortcut F7. I've tried nosing around in Group Policy for it - I found the 'Disable Commands' and 'Disable Shortcuts' for Excel 2010 and set the Control ID to 2 (which is meant to be spelling) but it's still allowing you to tick it from the menu. Also I've tried so many combinations of hotkey command values but I can't stop it with F7. The user is getting this policy as I can disable e.g. Underline from the menu. I'm reading these instructions Quickly deploy Microsoft Office customizations post install | David Vielmetter but you still can't remove spelling as an entry from the toolbar. I'm really stuck. Thanks for your help PS we've managed to turn spelling off in Word but not in Excel......I am looking through but it seems to be with disabling things in Proofing options. I also created a registry Dword called 'WordSpellingOptions' and set that to 0 in HHKey Current User but that didn't work.
  2. Hi We have a networked inket printer here and all the Mavericks macs connect to it via an IP address. I'm a bit puzzled....... How can everyone see everyone else's printjobs? Do you have to nose around in CUPS? We have a situation where one student printed a load of stuff out and the other students couldn't view it on the other macs. I was wondering if this situation was different if the printer was shared off a local mac instead of an IP printer? Thanks

    Keychain Hell

Cheers Carter. The trouble is the user account doesn't reside in the accounts part of OS X - as it's an AD account. So do you delete the whole folder and login / get it to recreate would you think?

    Keychain Hell

I just can't clear out the blasted messages coming up for this user regarding Keychains. It's saying Messages Agent wants to use the "login" keychain. I tried deleting the login keychain but it's still saying it. I tried repairing it and it says it failed. What on earth do you do to clear it out and start again! It is driving me nuts!

Don't worry I've managed to get into the user now.......sorry about that. Thanks again Carter - you were a lifesaver today! Mike

    Keychain Hell

That's great Carter - really helpful and detailed thanks so much! Unfortunately for this user I have screwed something up. It's now displaying 'Password for library/keychain/login.keychain is not the same as login password so keychain can't be unlocked automatically' when I tried repairing the keychain for this user. Is there a way of getting out of this? Ta again - really useful post this one.

    Keychain Hell

Hi everyone Keychains cause a lot of issues don't they.....it's so confusing. I am not the first to ask this I know. A teacher renamed their windows password and the prompt came up to create or update a keychain when they tried to log in on their mac. When you get prompted what to do it's really confusing for all. Anyway..... I did 'Create New Keychain' then the mac couldn't access their documents folder ( local documents) as it said they didn't have permission. I rebooted the mac and then they had access to their documents folder. What figures there? PS The macs are bound to AD This happened again for a second mac (ie another user was having keychain popups as she had changed her AD password) so I did the same - i.e. create new keychain. ( Is it better to update keychain here? ). Still loads of windows popping up about keychains and logins I couldn't get rid of. So I rebooted then went to keychain access and created a newkeychain from the keychain menu. Now I can't login as that user ( an Activ Directory User ). Doh! Is there a way I can reset the keychain stuff for this user on this mac as administrator as there are no local accounts help on the mac? Should I browse to their local home folder / Library / Keychains and delete what's in there / will it re-create them again? I've got myself into a pickle here but it's all good! Thanks for your help and sorry to ask another keychain question!
  8. I can tell you if flash and java go down across the school it knocks *loads* of things off. It would be nice not to have to run it but back to the real world!
  9. Thanks everyone. I can't really spend any money at the moment so having to do it on the cheap. Have a nice weekend .....and thanks for your replies. Mike
  10. Hi there Flash is a bit of a pain .....it's always being updated. On our macs they are still a bit behind - we hope to run Parallels and system centre on them soon ( with Yoesmite). In the meantime can anyone suggest a cheap way of updating Flash on them rather than buying new Remote Desktop software or using Profile Manager ( as we are using Workgroup manager on these older macs). They are on Snow Leopard at the moment ...... Thank for your advice.
  11. Yosemite feels better after that 10.10.3 update there's no doubt about it......all the Macs are working fine we had problems with.
  12. Hi there Sometimes when we try to image a pc with system centre it 'Fails to run the task sequence'. Normally it's because we have already imaged the pc and the client is still left on there. You can go into the logs and look at the computer Netbios name/delete it in System Centre - is there a way does anyone know of just being able to override this? It's a bit of a faff sometimes but not a big thing. Thanks
  13. That's amazing. That worked. Hat's off to you. Thank you so much. I didn't think it would get solved.
  14. Thanks chazzzy. We don't redirect app data.....causes too much network traffic. I wonder why this issue has started happening. It seems to be happening on pcs the students haven't logged on to before but I can't be sure. If it were a corrupt profile fair enough but they haven't logged on to these machines.
  15. Thanks BFCIT. The thing is the student profile we have here is non writeable - it's one generic profile for all of them set to read only.
  16. Hi there May I ask has anyone heard of this / seen this. We've had a spate of IE not starting on pcs here. You click on it and nothing happens. When you delete the local profile from the pc the kids can open IE fine. It seems to be happening more and more. It's only IE that seems to be doing this ( no other apps). Thanks
  17. Ok that's very interesting.....apologies.
  18. Let us know how you get on Rob......I didn't try this just asked users to hold down ALT for the time being if they see the dreaded grey sticking bar. I've never known ever running disk permissions fixes to fix anything on a mac ( or resetting PRAM) but maybe that's just me. Yeh I wish I'd not put Yosemite on our 2008 Imacs now. Thank god we only did 3!
  19. Wow thanks Huddlestone......it has really irked me of late this issue.
  20. I just went back down there and took the network cable out of the Imac - but it was still hanging - which leads me to thinking is this deploy studio? I noticed that I'd set the time and date to get it time from our main timeserver - so I took that off....it's rebooted fine a few times - we shall see tomorrow ( I don't think this is the issue ).
  21. Thanks Mark that's really helpful - no one else suggested this.
  22. We do.......this is interesting....why do you ask Mark? Do you think it's searching for something as it's booting up?
  23. Hi there I'm glad I didn't roll out Yosemite to all our Imacs.......not with this continuing issue! I'm still suffering with this hanging on boot issue....has anyone made any progress on this out of interest? Apple suggested to update the macs to the latest Combo update which I did but they are all still hanging on bootup. If you boot into Safe mode then reboot it's ok...... Short of wiping them ( which I don't really want to do ) can anyone suggest anything else? I guess we are at the mercy of Apple and their updates..... Thanks
  24. Flash is such a pain.........constant microupdates.......good riddance if you ask me.

    Yosemite upgrade

Hi there I've upgraded 3 macs to Yosemite from Mavericks - pretty old Imacs. I've noticed every now and then the bar seems to get stuck when it boots up. If I hold down SHIFT and boot up into safe mode ( which takes ages ) the Imac boots up.........then if I reboot it again it boots up. Can you think of anything I could try disabling on it ? It's not got any special hardware attached to it - just a bog standard mac. Thanks
