Should be fine, it just forces GP changes to propagate to that machine. How many at once?

Seems fine as of post date ^

Blocked across the board here as it was being misused by the kids (happy slapping, drunk neds kicking the living sh*t out of each other, that kinda thing). Does lead to the problem of "i need a video of x for my class", but there's other places that these things can be found (BBC, CNN, etc) With regard to MP3 soundtracks, educational use such as this is very defensible as it's not being used for commercial gain and is to support learning. It's probably still illegal due to the UK's ye olde copyright laws, but i doubt anyone would be too bothered about pursuing a lawsuit.

Fookin' 'ell localz, appreciate the effort but some of those prices are nuts. The co-lo option is cheaper, ya, but we still need to ship them out a server I had a look through their site and priced up a package at £150 p/m though. They might still be an option. I also looked and poundhosts and OVH. OVH may take this, i'll contact them in the morning for more details. I'll be seeking out testimonials before i throw money at anything though

It's not school related at all, nope. It's a golf-related startup and i've been doing some short-notice design work for them, and have been asked to do a few extra bits n bobs, like find a web server etc. Coca-Cola won't be putting any money into it as such, nope. We're in with them to get the exposure and through-traffic. It might work, it might not

Don't get me wrong, if this takes off, the money will be spent on an all-singing all-dancing web platform, but they're still very much in the initial stages. It's a toss-up between how much to spend initially while still getting decent performance. I'll make this case to the bosses and see if i can give CS another shout Edit: Yep, there's a lot of scripting and dynamic content involved. So yup, will place demands in the hardware and bandwidth. If it can't be done cheap, it can't be done cheap

We've been told to expect potentially 1.8million visitors in the first year, growing to a potential 5million by year 3. We have a deal with Coke, and they'll be pushing traffic through. Obviously these are at the upper limit, but we need to plan for this eventuality. I'll check out WHT tonight at home. Has to be located in EU, preferably UK, as this is the bulk of the market. thx

*gulp* This aint gonna be cheap then Personally i wouldn't put my money into an unknown quantity (for anything really), and i realise they may have to pay for the requirements they have. Better break it gently

Cheers lads, i'll check those out when i get a chance

Hosting's been discussed plenty here, but i'm looking for a dedicated web server for a company i'm involved with. They're trying to avoid paying more than £200 per month if at all possible. Windows or linux, although linux is probably the best bet, decent hardware with 2GB+ RAM, Decent backups, Oodles of bandwidth (expecting a lot of traffic) Anyone had any dealings in finding similar? Or can recommend where to look? I did a bit of enquiring yesterday around a few companies, but we're looking at over £200 to 'well over' £300 per month, which is obviously an arseload of money for a startup. Cheers folks.

I'll only ever be running them from this PC. I'll try chucking 'em in Win32 dir (Edit: Mong - i obv. mean 'System32')

PsTools are awesome Just had a little play with them, very nice. It says you should put the files in the "Executable path", is that the win32 dir?

Not disabled here, and if i can possibly help it, never will be. As stated previously, they need to learn how to use it. Too many bloody staff can't use it. All you can do is try to lock down the damage they can do with it i suppose. I feel that learning to use this - pretty fundamental - feature is more important that setting getting fiddled with. Must dash, i think i just heard something break...
-
Sounds like something they would do. (from here) For the record, my previous post wasn't having a pop at Islam, i was having a pop at all backward societies and religions I respect all religions, i just don't agree with them.

I learned using a couple of books. Full of examples and real world projects. Welling and Thomson one SAMS Teach Yourself one The top one is light years better imo though. Online references: Can do no worse than the official sites php.net and mysql.com/. Both are searchable (top right) and info is straight from the horses mouth. The discussions on php.net per function are really interesting too.

So Pakistan are concerned with videos on YouTube with anti-pakistani or anti-Islamic content, so have banned the site. So, they're getting rid of content that could - COULD - contain offensive materials. Better block the entire internet then, and while they're at it, magazines, books, all writing and drawing implements, computers and mobile phones. Welcome to the 21st century, crucifixions on the left, flailings on the right. initial article on the Pakistan ban

ROFL!! Some of those are brilliant (and pretty damn close to the bone)
-
Tried it in another network port on the switch/wall? If not, maybe a dodgy bit of hardware, but if everything else is working fine...
