Yes the quality might be slightly better than 4k streamed but for 99% of the population that's already good enough. I've given up buying Blu-rays though I still frequently rent them from Lovefilm purely because movies tend to be released on physical media before they're available to stream. If that were to change I'd have no reason to bother with physical media. DVD was a giant leap forward from VHS tape and blu-ray/HD-dvd at 1080p made for a noticeable jump up from that but I'm finding it hard to get excited about a new physical media format given it's only offering what we already have available online. 100Gb on a triple layer UHD disc doesn't seem like much of an improvement given dual layer Blu-rays already hold 50Gb and that's now 10 year old technology? Ignoring the streaming media argument the format itself doesn't even sound very impressive from a technical viewpoint? It's feels out-dated and it hasn't even been released yet! Meh, maybe I'm getting old

The shifter add on and clutch pedal sounds cool but I thought most racing games just use sequential automatic gears so I had doubts about how useful it would be? @pcstru what race sims do you normally play and are there any others you'd recommend trying that support clutch/shifter? I've enjoyed Forza on Xbox but I'd like to try out some more realistic sims on PC.

The Logitech G27 looks awesome but it seems to be £200+ and I was only thinking of spending around £50-100 in the first instance. There seem to be a few Thrustmaster wheel/pedal combos for around that price but no idea if they're any good? There's a a few wheels that work on both PC and PS4 but annoyingly nothing I've seen so far that's PC and Xbone compatible

Picked up a copy of Project Cars the other day and I fancy getting a wheel to play it with. Would be nice if I could find one that's also compatible with my Xbox One as I'd like to use of for playing Forza on that as well. Any recommendations? Anyone else on here playing it on PC?

+1 We have a situation in the UK where a third of voters claimed an overall Majority in Westminster for the Conservatives and around 50% of voters in Scotland translated into nearly 100% of seats for the SNP. I personally would like to see several parties discussing policies and working together rather than a single party having absolute majority control in parliament.

I'm quite disappointed that the result leaves the Conservatives with an overall majority since it means they can effectively ignore the opinion of all the other parties and push through whatever legislation the like providing their own MP's agree to it. Ironically despite the landslide SNP victory it actually leaves Scotland with very little influence in Westminster. I've a feeling the next 5-10 years could be a the most important this century for defining the future of the country. Especially with talk of an upcoming EU referendum. Following on from that the SNP will almost certainly insist on another referendum in the event of the UK voting to leave the EU. Suspect it'll mean moving to a more devolved federal style system if we want to keep the United Kingdom united. Interesting times ahead......

Nobody with this issue? Around 50% of the pens that came with our boards have broken inside of a month. Seems like a design flaw but maybe we just received a dodgy batch?

I agree with you. I wasn't planning on giving them it but our computing HOD asked for it as some of the apps (like visual studio) have online help guides and various components that might require internet access. They seem happy enough with it being isolated at the moment in general so I'm going to leave it that way for now. I've mapped a drive to their home area so they can copy files back and forth between the host and client.

I'm in the process of setting up a Virtualbox VM image at the moment. I've disabled network access but wondered are there any security implications with installing the Virtualbox Guest Additions/Extensions? Also, our head of computing has also been asking if it would be possible to get internet access on the guest OS but I'm still trying to think of a secure way of achieving that. Not sure if it's even possible without giving the guest OS access to other PCs and servers on the network which we'd obviously want to avoid?

My take is that it's primarily there as a deterrent to any military action. I suppose you could question the need as to whether we ourselves directly require nuclear weapons but I think that Putin's aggression in former soviet states and the current threat of an EU referendum in the UK means, to me at least, that now is the wrong time to start talking about scrapping trident. Perhaps further down the line if we feel that as part of the EU we can maintain a more united front against the likes of China, Russia and the US then maybe but definitely not at the moment IMO.

It's quite interesting hearing Nick Clegg talk about coalitions and the party with the most seats automatically having the ' democratic mandate' to form the next government. Given the shortcomings of the first past the post voting system (which effectively means a party can win a Westminster majority with potentially under a third of the people in the UK voting for them) surely it's perfectly reasonable that second and third place parties should be in a position to form a government if between them their seats outnumber the main one and theoretically say represented two thirds of the population?

We've recently had a batch of these installed in our school and only a week later around half of them have broken or a showing signs of hairline cracks appearing around the middle join in the pen so look like they're about to break. Ordinarily we'd just buy additional pens but in my opinion this is a design flaw that could affect the replacements rather than staff being clumsy. Plus they cost over £100 each so I'm worried we could end up with a bill of thousands a year to keep these podiums in spare pens! Has anyone else encountered similar issues?

On a similar note did anyone see the Channel4 interview with Robert Downey Jr last night ? Rather than asking questions about the movie Krishnan Guru-Murthy kept badgering him about his Father/drug problems and time in jail. Robert walked out before the end of the interview and I cant say I blame him. A 32Gb windows device in 2015...seriously! 64Gb is bad enough but 32Gb would be lucky to survive a couple of windows updates and service packs nevermind installing any apps on it! It's a stupid move on Microsoft's part for what must surely be a minuscule saving given you can buy a 128Gb SSD these days for £50. They'd be better offering a deal like bundling the typecover/pen for free to education rather than trying to pare down the price by cutting the spec. I know they want to get the headline 'from' price down to iPad levels and are facing stiff competition from Chromebooks and Android tablets, but selling substandard hardware isn't the way to tempt people away from their iDevices. You'd be daft to buy anything less than the 4Gb RAM /128Gb SSD Surface (or any windows device) IMO.

Personally I think spoiling your ballot paper is as daft an idea as not voting. As has been said before politicians will take not bothering to vote as a sign that you're happy with things the way they are and spoiling your ballot paper as an indication that you're too stupid to put an X in a box! They won't see it as any kind of 'protest' against the system. Surely between all the parties you can find someone broadly in agreement with your ideology or at least someone close enough to it to drag politics in the direction you want! At least if you vote for a specific party/candidate that has no chance of winning your vote is at least counted and noticed.

If anything I think the lib dems might have been better sticking their ground and adopting a strategy of supporting the Conservatives on a vote by vote basis rather than forming an official coalition. They'd probably have been viewed as more effective had they been seen to be voting on an issue by issue basis siding with either Labour/Torys depending on the topic. With a formal coalition to most observers it just appeared like they were absorbed into the Conservative party collective with very little say. Maybe a "coalition of chaos" would be a good thing! Good name for a rock/metal band as well I reckon

The problem with moving to any alternative/proportional representation system is that it would need to be voted on in Westminster and neither Labour or the Conservatives would readily agree to it, as its not in their interests to change the voting system, so I don't think we'll see it in the near future. I actually saw quite a good video on the first past the post voting system and why it always leads to 2 main parties like we have here and in the US.

In practice I don't think a Labour/SNP 'coalition' would be that much different in practice than if Labour won an overall majority themselves but the media backlash is likely to be fierce. I could imagine another 4 years time at the next election the Conservatives sweeping back into power on an anti-Scottish vote take back Westminster vote. Then there's the possibility looming of an EU referendum which could well trigger another Scottish independence referendum especially if the UK voted to leave the EU.

At this point it's looking like it'll be Labour supported to some degree by the SNP as the most likely outcome. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out after a couple of years. I worry it's going to create a lot of anti-Scottish feeling among the rest of the UK as the press/media will almost certainty spin it as the SNP calling the shots against what they'll claim to be a weak Labour government. In reality even it the SNP won every single seat in Scotland (unlikely) that's only around 10% of UK seats so they won't manage to put through any of their own policies unless Labour and the Tory's disagree on a specific issue.
