I added myself to that group as I mentioned above. That didnt have any affect. I think i may have sorted it now. Went to the server security policy and navigated to.... Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Allow log on through Terminal Services. I added the remote desktop security group to it and i can now RDP to the box. I would of thought that as MS decided to make a default group called remote desktop users by default that it should just work out of the box without having to do the above step? Jon

Morning, Having a problem connecting to our DC using remote desktop. The only account that can connect is the domain admin acc. Other domain accounts that are not domain admins are unable to connect. Adding them to the remote desktop user group doesn't help. RDP connections are turned on on the DC and I have allowed the account I want to have access to connect. Whenever someone tries to connect they get the error..... to log on to this remote computer you must have terminal server user access permissions. By default, members of the remote desktop users......etc etc you get the idea. Could it be a licensing issue? Searches of google suggest that after 120 days only the administrator account can connect if you do not have terminal services licenses. If anyone could shed any light on this I would be most grateful.

Hi Guys, I am trying to setup offline file syncing. We have certain shares on the network that we would like to sync to users laptops when they logoff/shutdown. I have setup a GPO to tweak the offline files/folders settings and it all looks ok to me but now im stuck. The folders I have selected to sync...dont. Can someone point out the exact way to select which folders are made available offline using a policy. The only way I can get a folder to sync is to right click on it manually and make it available offline on a folder on the desktop. Obv I dont want to have to do this on every machine Its a 2003 network with XP Pro clients. We dont use any folder redirection. Any idea what im doing wrong. Cheers

I found this game massivly frustrating. I dont find the movement fluid at all. Even with headbob turned off it can be a task going through a door for example. The campaign in also riddled with bugs that can make it unplayable and uncompletable. For example, your men refusing to get in the vehicle you tell them to. And even if you manage to get them all in the vehicle, tell the driver to go somewhere and he can just sit there dribbling and being 'special'. Once you are moving, their driving is shocking! It took him 2 mins to navigate round a fench because ke kept just backing up and crashing in to it again. ARGH

Was just wondering....does anyone play this competively? We play quite a few clan games per week and play in several leauges. Also do fairly well at the TF2 tournies at the i-series lans. If anyone wants a pcw, give me a shout Jon

Morning Guys, Trying to setup windows media services on a W2K3 box. I have installed the service, and created a new publishing point to use on-demand streaming. I have created a new dir and placed two folders in it, both containing a couple of videos. I have then pointed the publishing point at this folder. I have created an Announcent file using the Unicast Announcment Wizard and this gives me an asx file and a htm file. What I need it to do is create a webpage which lists all the video files so users simply click on a link and it opens that file. The current setup just starts streaming the files in order from the beginning each time the announcment file is run. Can anyone help me tweak this to get it to do what I want? Thanks peeps! m1d

I was thinking of having the following setup....i could of got it horribly wrong We will be having 2 x 7110s mirrored for DR. Linked to these via a SAN only network would be 2 x Sun 4160's with 32GB RAM. Running on these will be ESX VI3. I was going to create 2 projects on the 7110. One holding the NFS shares for my VM images and 1 holding my shares using CIFS for users documents. I am a bit confused of when exactly I need to use iSCSI for block level access. A couple of the VMs will have databases on them (not SIMS, thats staying stand alone). Do I need to setup a LUN for the VMWare image AND a LUN for the d: with the data on it or can I just get away with having a LUN for D:? and still using NFS for windows. I assume doing it either way I will have to use the windows iSCSI tool. How does that setup sound to you guys?

Afternoon Guys, Can someone suggest a decent 1GB switch for use with 2 x SUN servers and 2 x 7110s. Each server has 4 nics and each 7110 has 2 so thats at least 12 ports need so Im learning towards a 24 port switch in case we add more hosts later. Would prefer HP but open to suggestions. Does the backplane speed need to be massivly fast? Thanks!

Afternoon, Looking at getting some costings for VMWare implementation. We will be running 2 physical hosts (both dual CPU) and using a SAN. Would like the go with enterprise so we get all the fluffy bits like HA, vmotion and DRS. The only thing is confusing me the VCentre manager. It says we need to use this to get the full features of VI3 Enterprise, so why not just include it in VM3 if you cant use most of the enterprise level features without it. From what I can see, there are two versions of VCentre server. VCentre Server and VCentre Foundation. The only difference being..... VMware® VirtualCenter Foundation is functionally equivalent to VMware VirtualCenter, except that it is limited to managing three nodes of any size. For example, managed instances can be VMware® Infrastructure 3 Foundation, Standard or Enterprise and can be on two, four, eight or 16 CPU servers. I assume as we are only having 2 hosts, we are fine with the max 3 node option. And also....none of our servers have 16 CPUS Am I making sense or talking gibberish. I think I have my head round it but please feel free to tell me Im wrong Below is what we have been quoted so far.... We are currently looking at implementing a SAN solution here. Trouble is im a bit confuzzled about how it all works, having no experience with them at all. From what I can see, we have 2 choices of fabric. Fibre or iSCSI. iSCSI being the cheapest and most likely the one we will go for. We then have a choice of thousands of different solutions. ARGHHWGBNJSBGN!!111 The sun solution above does look nice and the price is appealing. I just need to understand a bit more on how it all links together. We will be going virtual this year and want all our storage in the same place. We will be getting 2 (maybe 3) host machines (HP 380's 2xquad core xeon, 16gb ram). We will most likely be running VMWare ESXi (VI3 standard or enterprise, dunno yet) We would like all storage on all servers to be on the SAN. SO...unless im being "special" we will need... A SAN with iSCSI ports (I assume these are just normal NICs?) A switch for SAN traffic (Again, just a normal 1GB switch with a fast backplane?) Extra NICs on the hosts. The hosts will most likely have 4-5 VMs on them. How many nics do you think I will need. I would like the keep the SAN traffic seperate to our main network. Does that mean I need say for example, 4 NICS for network traffic for the VMs and then say another 4 for SAN traffic between the VMs and the SAN. Any pointers people can give me would be most appreciated. Been trying to get my head round SANS for days and with so many different vendors offering different solutions I feel like im going to fall over Cheers Guys!

Ut Oh... I suggest you go read the thread on the Conficker virus in this forum. One of confickers tricks is to disable accounts. Make sure your AV solution is upto date and that your MS updates are current. Specifically you need to check all your machines / servers have update 958644. Good luck and I really hope you are not facing a conficker infection.
