  1. I'm trying to upgrade a fizzbook spin to XP Pro. I can start the upgrade / install of from within XP home, however when the fizzbook reboots it fails to read the cd/dvd (a disk read error occurred). We are using an external USB DVD drive. If I use F11 and boot from the external dvd, the fizzbook sees the device, but then errors with 'Operating System not found' We used this disk & device to upgrade a samsung netbook without a problem. Have tried a few different installation media and a couple of drives but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks
  2. Thanks Marc - PM send to you
  3. Sanyo PLC-XE40 power up problem We have just put a brand new bulb into this projector but I cant get it to power up. I have a power light - red and the bulb warning light as orange, but projector will not start up. Have checked the Thermal Switch as per other threads in this forum, and switch is down. I'm not getting any response from the remote control and have tested it on another board and the remote works fine. Tried another brand new bulb but still the same. Any one with any ideas? Thanks
  4. Looking for 30 Samsung NC10+ netbooks. Please PM me if you can quote & supply. Want to place an order today. Thanks
  5. Hi, One of our Networx switches has failed and I need some advice on a suitable replacement. This dead switch has a fibre optic 100BASE-FX port installed in the rear expansion slot. The fibre connections are ST. New switches I've looked at all seem to have a different fibre interface (T/TX). I presume that there is some sort of adapter/converter on the market? Additionally we are just starting to think about vlan implementation, so any new switch must be able to cater for vlan. 16 or 24 ports. Any help / advice appriciated - Thanks
  6. Nope, not all in one - would prefer seperate monitor. Energy efficiency is important.
  7. We have always purchased RM Ones for our CC3 network, however due to various reasons we'd like to replace them with an alternative. Just wondering what desktops you'd recomend or are running on your CC3 network?
  8. Access-based enumeration hides files and folders that users do not have permission to access. check this link: thinkIT: Windows Server 2008: Access Based Enumeration
  9. As much as I agree with your comments, they are all already been raised in discussions with the HT and they still want it implemented. So much so that I've been allocated an extra day just to work on a solution. Its definately not a staff problem as there are strict policies in place re computer use, unattended workstations etc. Apparentley HT's previous school had this in place and he wants it here as well. My task is to implement the solution he wants, even if it still has the flaws as you all mention (HT is aware). I'm looking for technical solutions please.
  10. Logged in as a user with admin permissions (windows 7 workstation), but whenever I access a share on the server (2008 R2) I'm prompted for my user credentials. Arrgh, gets rather annoying after entering them for the 10th time in less than an hour!
  11. Your correct it that, but if a user has logged on and left the workstation unattended then the folder can be accessed by anyone, and that is what the HT wants to prevent. Yes, they can lock the workstation, but it doesnt happen in practice.
  12. Nope its not a problem with staff using logons that dont belong to them, thats already strictly forbidden. More a case of a new HT whos hot on safeguarding. Wants all childrens photos protected by this 2nd level of password. Doesnt want anyone to be able to jump onto a logged in machine (if the teacher has left it logged in) and just take a look into the 'photo' folder! We have already been through the options that each user already has their own password and could 'lock' the workstations when leaving them, but thats open to someone forgetting to do it...
  13. HT wants a password protected folder on the network (Server 2003) that only certain users can access: 1. Folder must be password protected, and prompt user for credentials each time its used. 2. Only specific users can access I've sorted #2 using groups and permissions - easy, but struggling with #1. Anyone know of a way to do it? Even with 3rd party software? Maybe an external encrypted HDD? Thanks
  14. Hi, Anyone like to quote for 4 Sanyo PLC-XE40 Projector bulbs? Thanks
  15. Its rather cheeky but you could get a Fluke Optiview on a free, 3 day, no obligation trial: AJP Solutions (see bottom of page)...
  16. Thanks, but have already been through that tec article, prior to posting on here. Unfortunately it didnt resolve the problem. TEC1395295 was the only tech article that was remotely relevent on the Rm knowledgebase.
  17. I do have access to RM.com but theres nothing on there of any help!
  18. Background: This is a new school for me and they have not had any support since the last tech left over 5 months ago! Running CC4 with SP1, and I have inherited a whole multitude of problems... School also has no support contract with RM as they are planning for a new network system (yet to be decided), but expected Aug /Sep / Oct. In the meantime I'm trying to keep everything ticking over.... I'm attempting to install several packages (cc4 updates) that have already been downloaded onto the server, but for whatever reason dont seem to have been assigned / deployed. Each time I get the following error when assigning package from the RMMC: An error occurred while deploying packages UnhandledException (Root element is missing) Any ideas? Thanks
  19. We need to uninstall and reinstall the TS Licensing service (Server 2003). When we reinstall the Licensing service, we will have an unactivated License server with no TS CALs installed. However this school has no record / documentation of its licenses (no documentation of any kind to be percise!). Is there any method of retriving this info? Microsoft? MS Clearing house? Company that installed server no longer around. Thanks
  20. Afraid you do hightower - if you are going along the proper building regs route. The new joists must run across the current ones (at right angles).
  21. Wrong. It will only ever be classed as a loft unless you have fixed staircase and full building regs. Without those then it will not add any value to the house as theres no evidence that the work has been done to the correct spec. i.e. to proper strengthen the floor you need to install additional joists running across the current ones, which will be there to hold up the ceiling of the room below. This takes up roof space and can render a loft area unusable due to loss of height. But without those you always run the risk of the loft space collapsing into the room below, especially when you start putting in. Lots of bodge jobs / diy efforts dont bother with the additional joists. Have just spent 2 years and 45k putting on a side extension and loft extension, but now the house has just be revalued and increased in value by 60k - happy with that!
  22. One of our SMART BoardTM 600i3 uf-55 projectors has started to flicker. This happens even when its not connected to a computer. Its an irregular flicker but occurring constantly. Projector is around a year old, but bulb life is at 1042 hours. Manual refers to tracking but this only applied when a computer is connected. Anyone any ideas? Thanks
  23. Can this only be done by a canon engineer, or is there a way I can do it?
  24. I'm trying to network a canon ir3025 photocopier to enable printing but am having problems printing to the device. I can ping the photocopier and it can ping the server, I can access the web interface and check the setting but each time I print it fails. No error code on the photocopier logs, nor any sign the print job actually got to the photocopier. I've now also tried printing direct from a workstation via usb and get the error NG #853 Have tried both PCL and URR II drivers. It may be that we need a 'printing license file' installed on the photocopier, so I called canon (whom we have a hardware support contract with), to ask the question but none has yet called me back - although its only been 3.5 hours...... Can anyone on this forum help? Thanks
  25. To free up disk space Search and delete *.tmp, *.dmp, *.chk, *.$$$ (some might be in use and you wont be able to delete them) Empty c:\temp c:\winnt\temp or c:\windows\temp folders if they exists run checkdsk on C: drive Check spool files c:\windows\spool previously printed docs may have left behind some junk You can also move the i386 folder onto another drive. Windows will simply ask for its location when it needs it.
