I have one at home and at work, there is a hardware bug on them though so be sure to check it out before plugging it in to your PC, I had to modify mine by desoldering a pin and then soldering in a wire to the correct voltage if I remember correctly, something about 3V and 5V getting mixed up I think..

That's the old-fashioned way of doing it! What you want is one of these: It's a CH341A Programmer and you just hook it up to your computer, connector the other end over the CMOS chip where the BIOS is stored, save it to a ROM file and then flash/write it to your computer with the issue! You can even download the ROM from the manufacturers website and flash that directly to the chip on the motherboard. 😎

Have you tried resetting the CMOS via the motherboard? You usually have to short out a couple of pins on the motherboard and then give it a go - depending on the generation of the desktop it may even be an actual button you can press!

I think they're called femtocell devices and connect to your broadband and are for specific providers (O2 call theirs a Boostbox) and are for selected mobile phone numbers so you'd need to get one for each phone provider (assuming they did them) and then add all the people wishing to use them to the systems (O2's is for up to 32 numbers).

"Many cheap, non-compliant boosters sold online are illegal to operate, even if they are legal to buy" so watch out. As others have basically said, don't buy one yourself. Find a third party company based in the UK (not Gibralta for example) that specialise in this sort of thing and know the rules/regs/laws.

Batteries these days seem to last around 3 years and then that's that. On my retro computing workbench at home I have a 22 year old laptop (with the original battery) that still charges to 100% and gives over 1 hour and 20 minutes of battery time which is what they would have roughly had back then! It looks like it was used by a council (load of documents on it before I ran Active KillDisk on it and then did a full factory restore!

The answer is in your screenshot, if you don't have a current paid subscription to SIMS then you cannot use their software as only people who pay them are eligible to use it.

Unless you use the /f (fix) switch chkdsk on it's own, chkdsk runs in read-only mode and does not in any way shape or form do a repair. You have an NTFS file system issue. The only way to sort it is to analyse the NTFS volume and then instigate a fix/repair should a fault be found. At an elevated command prompt simply run chkdsk on the volume drive letter with the issue. Chkdsk with then say if there is a problem or not. If there is a problem you can then run chkdsk /f out of hours to attempt to repair the issue(s).

I assume you've run chkdsk?

Cameras are too complicated for Teachers (in our experience anyway) and they all seem to have expensive smart phones so are able to use Academy issued iPads for taking photos and videos on without too many issues.

LOL They didn't have any money available at the time to buy any kit so as we were helping them out we took the velcro over as it solved their problem as the last thing you need is a HDD rolling around the case!!

Lets just say, a few Hard Disk Drives in some of your desktops may or may not be held in place with it! 😁

Some people like to use Epoxy Glue when conducting a hinge repair on a laptop and although this may work, epoxy glue can be messy (especially if you spill or dribble a little bit of it like I do) and it dries/cures (pretty much) rock hard - rock hard is not necessarily a good thing, what you really need is something strong, yet a little flexible (a large amount of laptops used in schools are cheap and cheerful Cheap Low Spec Devices so the hinges are attached to thin/flexible plastic so if you use too hard an adhesive then it may cause different damage in the future). This is where Hot Glue comes in! It has been used in electronics for decades - if you've ever looked inside a desktop computers PSU (unless you know what you're doing, please don't try and repair one) you will often see a dab of hot glue on some of the components). Hot Glue can also be very cost effective as the Art Department in your School/Academy may already have a large box of the glue sticks that you can 'borrow'... 😉 Below you will see 4 different types of hinge repairs I have done: ============================================= Hinge Repair 1 Here you can see the hinge has broken away from the laptops screen, I've left the threaded insert (the metal bit the screw screws in to) on the hinge along with the plastic around it as this will help give the hot glue something to stick to. Using a hot glue gun I have squirted enough hot glue to fill the area the hinge was originally attached to. IMPORTANT: Whilst the glue is still hot, quickly place the hing in/on the hot glue and secure it in place with a clamp. Don't worry about any seepage - once dried this can easily be removed with a sharp knife (I use a scalpel for this sort of thing). Then all you do is put it all back together and job done! ============================================= Hinge Repair 2 With this type of hinge repair I start by putting a small amount on and building it up in layers as if you try and put too much on in one go it just spreads out in to one thin layer! This particular 'cheap low spec device' that we have, doesn't come with an optical drive, if it did then this would be a little more problematic to repair as it wouldn't be able to slide in so watch out for that. Hinge Repair 3 All three screws and the associated threaded inserts have come away from the screen bezel/lid. A bit of hot glue: Tidied up with a scalpel once it has hardened: Bobs Your Uncle - another damaged laptop repaired! Hinge Repair 4 This was a fun one to do as it was on a small 10" laptop: Just one screw had come out so only a small amount of hot glue required but there is a thin bezel that goes over it to install as well so I had to act fast before the glue starts to set.. 😎

For this repair on your exact laptop epoxy is not a good idea. I have fixed many modern thin hinges like this over the last few years and (touch wood) none have come back with the same fault. The answer to your problem is Hot Glue. It dries solid, but has a bit of flex on it. Look for Sorin on YouTube (Electronics Repair School) and he will show you how to do it - you basically secure the hinge in place with hot glue, quickly fit the bezel and then use a spring clamp to hold it together whilst it sets/hardens. I do have a few photos showing step-by-step how to do this sort of repair and it's next on my list for a repair tip but I've just not gotten around writing it on here yet!..
