We have a Server 2012R2 domain, with Windows 7 clients. I want to look at adding some Windows 8 machines, but some user GPOs, such as those that redirect the start menu are causing issues. Does anyone know where I can find a guide (as foolproof as possible) to adding Win8 clients to an existing Win7 network?

We use distribution lists (admittedly within Exchange) - we simply limit the people who can send to that group. We have a group for each year group, and for each house.

We use TASC Insight to display behaviour and achievement points to students and parents, and SIMS INTouch to text parents each evening if their child has received either achievement or behaviour reports.

Talk about a vampire thread - thank heavens we now have disk deduplication - I looked at the properties of a user folder yesterday - size was in order of 120GB, space on disk, about 10Gb.

We have an access database (accbd) which is shared by many users. Since moving to Office 2013 I've noticed a number of mdb files database(x).mdb, where x is a number, being created in the same folder, and holding the same information. Is it safe to delete these files, or even better, prevent them from being created?

I've rolled out this GPO today, and, in the main, it seems to be working well. However, I have a few users who say that printers are disappearing, without them logging off - just one minute there, one minute not. Anyone have any idea where I start with that? I've run gpresult, and the GPO is applying.

So, lets see if I have this straight, because I'm getting very confused. I have a GPP which assigns our printers to users, assigned to the users OU. Within that GPP printers are allocated by GPP to machine OUs, or to individual computers by name, depending on need. This isn't working properly. What I need to do is enable loop back processing, and assign that GPO to the computers OU? I need to use the GPP assigned to users, as that enables me to assign shared printers, which papercut likes, not IP Printers, which papercut ignores.

I was deploying printers using GPP and Item Level Targeting on the computer object, however, papercut wasn't working with that method of deployment. I've changed the GPO to using GPP and Item Level targeting on the user object, deploying shared printers, rather than the IP Printer I had to use when deploying to the computer object. Only some printers are mapping to some people. I can't see any logic in what is happening, but I'm wondering whether I need to enable loop back processing when Item Level targeting to a computer OU when deploying printers to a user object. Does any of that make any sense?

I think I prefer it to Windows 8. I need to give it longer than 30 minutes though - I stuck with Win8 for 3 months before I went back to 7.

I'm looking at this now - you can set up a secondary domain - not sure how you'll prove it's yours, but essentially your users will be granted a second e-mail address attached to the first, if I'm reading things correctly.

The RM build has failed - possibly due to the network card driver not being available. The reason for the failure needs to be identified, and the build redone

Just checked - offline files are greyed out. I'm sure that is the problem, just need to get there to turn it off! PS Done it! I had to remove the computer from the domain, log on as local admin, disable offline files and re-add it to the domain. I had taken a backup of the local files, as they were the most recent, and I replaced the network files with those.

We did resolve - but this thread is a year old, and we're on a new domain now, so I can't check what we did.

Offline files show no files are set to sync...The affected machine is set to switch off every night in Impero Power Management.

This issue is affecting one user out of 1400. We have a Server 2012R2 network, with Windows 7 x64 Enterprise on the desktops. My Documents is redirected to \\server\users$\\my documents. For one user, who doesn't have any special permissions on his usual machine, when he saves to My Documents on his usual machine, that change isn't replicated on the server, and logging onto other machines he doesn't see the changes. As far as his machine is concerned, the drive is mapped, or certainly looks that way. Disconnecting it and remapping it manually shows the same files. Permissions on the server are right, and event viewer reports that the drive mapping has succeeded. One thing I've noticed is that, for most users My Documents on the server appears as documents due to the ini file created on logon. That isn't the case for this user, even though he does connect to it from other machines.

Almost, but it does more that CC4 - you can deploy by msi, exe, script and other methods I'm forgetting. Software can be required or available - you can provide a web page for users to choose what software they want to add - not that we do! You can build either way - you an assign drivers to a particular model machine, or allow the drivers to be available for any machine.
