I give staff local admin rights so they can make changes to the machines... in this instance, can you give them 'power user' rights? Or perhaps modify on the c: drive?

Can you weigh them in for scrap?

So soon I'm going to find myself with 100 mechanical hard drives, most of which will be 500GB. What can I do with them? Is there something somewhere where I can plug them all in and have ALL DA STORAGE? I'd be quite the mistress with 50TB. Or should I just store them away in a cupboard and leave them to rot?

VNCon? You have to deploy a client to all the machines and you can view and control screens. I use it for my digital signage and mac server. Good for basic stuff. Might be a bit fiddly to set up, but then that's what you get for free! vncon.chronetal.co.uk - was blocked at my place, which isn't a good start!! See to me it looks like a problem with the image. When you created the image, did you put it on the domain to configure and then sysprep?
