@jstuttard how do you get round the needing of a google account for pupils under 13? Our It teachers are starting to look at it and we've come up against this issue.
-
I've been asked to sort out App inventor for our ict teachers as they want to start using it from years 7 through to 11. The only issue I can see is that it requires a google account for each user and in order to create them you have to be 13 or older. Obviously this won't work for our year 7 & 8 pupils as they are under 13. I was wondering how other schools have got round this. I have seen google apps for education, which would allow me to create google accounts for the pupils, but as we currently use office 365 for email, they would have to use a different username and password, and they have enough trouble remembering their current one, so a second would be a nightmare. Any body out there got any ideas?

We had to buy a replacement PSU for the head's PC as it blew up, because it's a SFF and the part was only available through HP, it cost us about £120, rip off, I could replace 3 or 4 standard PSU's for that on our other PC's.

We got a site survey done from a company called icomm recently for ruckus kit, and the quote was quite good too.

I noticed the menus were a bit laggy yesterday, but I don't think it would be a class 10 SD Card that the parents are using, probably class 4.

Cheers for that @Dos_Box, I was setting this up yesterday at my parents house and wondered about the screen size.

Forget it, just noticed it's come back online now, seems like it was a county issue.

we have a problem on a few pc's this morning with browsing the internet, has anyone seen this error before? Access Denied. The filtering service is currently unavailable Contact your internet administrator if you require access to this file. This has been seen on about 4 or 5 computers, but the rest are working. the computers point straight to the county's proxy, so we are a bit stuck at the moment.

Connection between Office 365 and Outlook dropping out
dezt replied to dezt's topic in Cloud Services
Just to update anyone that may be interested, I've been told today that the link to our school is dropping packets, and this could be the cause of outlook losing the connection to office 365. I'm waiting for the network team to see if they can clean up our line for us. -
If I remember rightly, delete that line from your web.config and it should work fine. Dezt

Connection between Office 365 and Outlook dropping out

Ive been trying outlook connection to office 365 exchange from home tonight, no problems what so ever, so it's something to do with the connection to the internet from school. At least I know what to look at now, i've got a case opened with the BTOneConnect guys about this, so fingers crossed they'll figure out what it is. @sukh i'll pm the logs tomorrow for you. -

Currently testing it with my laptop connected to my android phone set up as a WAP and it's working great, only thing it can be is the connection to the internet through the LEA I think. I've placed a call with them, but don't expect a call back before we finish on Friday. -

Connection between Office 365 and Outlook dropping out

It happens for everyone in the school, that use outlook to connect to office 365 (only 3 of us at the moment), it does reconnect after a few minutes, but it is just causing concern as sometime email can just sit in the outbox and not get sent straight away. I'm going to take my laptop home tonight and test it at home on my personal broadband and see what happens there, in effect it should work, if it does then it's an issue between school and the LEA. I'll get rid of the pictures now, as those errors are not important. -

@EduTech cheers for that, that's what I thought, I'll get the screenshots up for you in a few hours when I get to work showing the https error with the autodiscover RCA test. -

Yeah I'm manually migrating the mailboxes over using the exchange management option in office 365 with a cvs file. I don't have an autodiscover pointing to my on site exchange, so I'm ok there. -

@EduTech looking at your last post, my problem is where the autodiscover is pointing to, it looks like I have a setup that points both to the exchange server we have, and to autodiscover.outlook.com, that may be confusing things. -

I think I have an issue then, I don't have an exchange 2010 box, mine is an exchange 2003, should I migrate the mailboxes over the Christmas holidays and get the mx records changed then? -

@sukh I did get the lea to create a CNAME record for autodiscover, it took a few phone calls, but when I do a nslookup on it, it points to autodiscover.outlook.com like it should do. I'm on the CLEO network for broadband, so it's whatever is provided by BTOneconnect ltd. -

Cheers for that @EduTech, I'm on the ipad at home, I'll upload screenshots in the morning, I'm using a hybrid at the moment, as soon as everything works with outlook, I'll be moving across to a full office 365 solution, we have the kids on it at the moment, I just need to get the mx records setup when all the staff are migrated across. Is that the right way to do it, migrate mailboxes to office 365, let staff connect to OWA while mx records are changed at LEA to point to office 365 and then switch off the exchange server. Please tell me if that's not the recommended route.
