Pesky kids! Hard to keep them at bay. My server is on 10.9, so someone else will have to say if it's possible on 10.10 but, no, the options to restrict the Finder are fairly limited. With the right sharing/security permissions that shouldn't be too much of a worry though.

You don't need it in the dock if you untick it, the home folders will appear in Finder, Documents will be \\file-server\students\studentname\Documents etc. You can though assign it back to the dock if you're using Profile Manager

When you say "controlled by one of Macs", what do you mean, are you just sharing them out? And how do client/server connect to the printers, Bonjour, IPP, LPD etc.? Check the http://localhost:631/admin on the print server. You might see the problem in the logs/jobs there. Try setting the default size to A3 (on the print server and see what happens)

Have you tried deleting the preference files? Log in as that user Make sure the app is quit Go to ~/Library/Preferences Delete anything with Aver in the name Open the app again.

Printer works great but decided it was too expensive to replace the image drums (as we have more leased printers). So, thought I would give it away or just take it to the dump. Depends what's happened but I've found Testdisk and photorec to be life savers CGSecurity - Data recovery: TestDisk & PhotoRec It's all command lines but the step by steps are really well written. Good luck

edit/You posted while I was typing - What error/happens when you have it un ticked? I'd go to the machine to double check as I don't find that setting sticks all the time with Profile Manager

We use it and it works great. I'm trying to think what advice I can give but, I just turned it on and it started working. Yes, thankfully. In ARD, File-->Create Client installer. You can then use the Install (Manage->Install Package) feature or go to the machine and install it. ARD seems to loose machines all the time though, just quit and reopen the app sometimes gets them back. Or go to the Scanner and type the name in.

Yep, with "Local home folders on startup disk" you don't get folder redirection but you do get the network home folder in the dock. I don't think you need to have them open to all and if users can read/write then all should be well. That said, the EVERYONE group has Read share permissions to the route share in my setup (restrictions then set in security/ntfs permissions.) Maybe you could setup a test share to see if it makes a difference? I don't know how you put the desktop shortcut in WGM as I don't use it. I could load it up and find the setting when I get back on site.

If you rebuilt the server, you must be doing something right. You could 'just' reload the OS from Recovery mode and then choose an earlier time machine backup. I feel like I was able to choose several dates last time I restored my server, can someone else confirm that, I feel unsure now that I'm typing it out

You can do that via profile manager as well depending on which version of OS X (server) you have. This comes up so often I should make a longer post with screenshots etc. So if you need more info just say and I'll actually do it will all the screenshots and what not.

Have you got another Mac to use? I'd probably just load up OS X onto a USB DiskMaker X try and repair the disk and permissions in the recovery mode (Disk Utility) and if that doesn't work reload the OS.

I had the similar with a Samsung printer for some reason it made you stick in a pin code, didn't seem to matter what numbers. How are the printers connected, IP (IPP/LPD), via windows server or Bonjour? You could try the CUPS interface. Works fine for me, what do your logs say when you download an app? (Server.app ->Logs-> Caching Service Log)
