Hi, I wonder if someone can help... We have been trying to have a computer policy which is only applied to certain users, i'm sure it not possible but thought i'd ask anyway. We are trying to lock down computers so USB sticks can only be used by staff that are protected via BitLocker. but we want it so students can use memory sticks without protection. Its a computer policy so I know the simplest solution would be to set it at the top of the staff computer OU and apply it down the tree, but if staff find out they can user non-protected memory sticks on student computers it kind of ruins the idea. We have tried the delegation, by giving students "deny" permissions but no luck, we have also tried enabling loopback but no luck either. Its the head of ICT that wants to apply this, so may have to say its for everyone or no-one! Cheers, Tom

I have this issue at the moment - did you ever solve it?

Mainly i3s, with 4gb RAM, but normal disks and not SSDs unfortunately. The computers in the engineering department are i5s with 8gb RAM also with normal disks. I don't notice any difference on login time between the i3s and i5s

We're on Education and its working fine - We removed the built in Windows apps before uploading the image to SCCM

Have you got "Display highly detailed status messages" enabled in group policy to see what its getting stuck on?

Thats what I did... Worked wonders! I started at my school a few months a go and login times were between 5 minutes to 20 minutes for each user! So my first project was to fix that. I went through one by one and re-created a lot of the policies, not only that they had a few login scrips running which was duplicating everything GP was doing! So now we have (What I think) quite reasonable login speeds for local profiles Fresh boot new profile login: 40 Seconds Fresh boot, profile already created: 8 seconds Normal login, profile already created: 2 seconds Just got to sit down and go through them all, took around a day but well worth it - helped me make a very good first impression! Also, check for any scripts running!

I had just been through this at my place... Such a pain! created an account called whole school calendar, which I set editing rights to certain staff and read only to others, but have to send out email to all new staff What happened to the good old days where you could have it forced into peoples calendars lists. Also had the issue where staff wanted to access the shared calendar on mobile devices (Which currently isn't possible for shared calendars) So I had to change the settings In Office 365 Admin to allow users to publish their calendars to the net and then login to the calendar account and then publish that calendar to the net, then send the link out to staff who wanted it on their phones! Long process but if its a solution if you come across this issue!

Thanks for the reply's We run on Windows Server 2012R2, with One HP Office Printer and 4 Sharpe managed printers/photocopiers (We are a Sixthform College hence the limited printers) Its strange as im still yet to see the same problem (I use the same build as the staff and students, so I can test properly) but I have seen some users experience the issues. We are using Windows 10 Education, seems steady at the moment, but could be GP causing the issues but will need to sit down and work through them (I wish there was more options to apply policies to Edge!). Had no time today as been trying to deploy the same image to our Citrix VDI solution!

Hi all, Hope everyone enjoyed their Bank Holiday weekend! We have started deploying Windows 10 through SCCM, all working perfect! Apart from one aspect. Its not such a problem, but when users sometimes try and print from Microsoft Edge it just sits there and swirls while trying to load the printers. I know its a problem with Edge as its fine with Chrome (Always like to have 2 browsers installed to troubleshoot) and its fine with all other programs. Mainly seems to happen when PDFs open with Edge. Our printers are added via Group Policy I had a look online, and its not just us who has the issues, but wanted to see if anyone else had the issue on here! I tell the users to use Chrome as a work around, but would be good to know Cheers, Tom

Have told them many of times - We have started charging departments for replacement pens and for some reason the amount of helpdesk jobs for pens has dropped! But still ridiculous how much they cost for what they are. Have been looking into touch screen plasma screens as replacements, which has worked well for our primary school

We use Greensource who are based in Bristol. Our account manager is Kirs, he does a great job. greensource.co.uk We buy their re-man toner as its a lot cheaper. Been with them for around 8 years and never had an issue, had loads of other company's ring up and ask for quotes, but no-one can get near them. They sell all the stuff we need: Toner, Collection units, Fuse units, maintenance kits. Not only that, they pick up all the empty units for FREE! Goods are also delivered next day

Hi Everyone, Its nearly Friday! We are after some interactive whiteboard pens for the whiteboards we have on-site. We have Hitachi Cambridge (All different version numbers) I have found that sourcing pens for this board has become pretty difficult as Hitachi have discontinued the pen. The pen was a very light shade of grey with blue buttons, quite big in size. We have Smart Boards in our primary school, so don't have this issue there We managed to get some rechargeable pens working with them, which work pretty well, but its the cost that's the problem. For a pack of two with the charger it costs around £150! And as you know what teachers are like, once they are lost, well they are truly lost. Any advice would be great! If anyone needs a simple MS database, I have just finished creating one. It does a simple stock deduction after each toner swap, and you can keep and report on the previous replacements. You can add to it, its just a start! If anyone adds anything useful let me know!Print Audit.zip
