My only problem with moving everything to 2012 is SP1 isn't out for it yet (and perceived wisdom is not to start rolling out new OS' until SP1 is out). Plus 2008 R2 will be supported until 2020 so you'll be OK if you decide to go down that route.

I've been playing with VAMT today funnily enough. I'm starting to distribute Office 2013 so was interested to see if VAMT would do away with the need for a KMS server and, sadly, it doesn't as far as I can tell. Good for distributing MAK keys though! So I'm going to have to patch my 2008 R2 KMS servers so Windows 8, 2012 and Office 2013 can activate against them.

I both collect and use vintage shaving stuff (brushes and razors) so, believe it or not, shaving is now a hobby rather than a chore. Consequently I am smooth shaven every day.

Well, we're an academy and my IT budget has been frozen until next year unfortunately.

What's ridiculous is the educational pricing lasts until about September, then it's back to normal. Way to go, having an offer through the biggest school break of the year.

I had 10 fantastic years of pubbing and clubbing between 18 and 28 (including 3 Pyjama Jumps in Sheffield before they got banned). Then I met my wife, settled down and am as happy as Larry. I've just turned 40 and couldn't care a carrot. I thoroughly enjoyed my past but I have no desire to relive it or turn back the clock, now it's time to grow old disgracefully!

We're getting a lot of damage here too. It's like the arrival of summer has transformed the kids into wrecking machines. We have a lot of wireless netbooks and have had keyboards with the grommets ripped off, broken screen, swearwords etched into casings, etc. Our vice principal has spoken to the Year 7's and 8's about it (it bodes well for the future that the youngest kids are doing it) and now any damage at all is resulting in us removing the trolley from the room for the rest of term. I wish we charged departments for damage. It would soon stop then.

I would say the one thing we can all agree on is Windows 8 polarises opinion!

Also, there is known problem with the Metro apps and authenticated proxy servers.

And yet if I type 'firewall' into W7 up it pops! Somewhat counter-intuitive in my eyes.

I am by no means a luddite, and have been using W8 at home since launch. However (you just knew there had to be one didn't you) I think TIFKAM is a crap interface. Some of the many small irritants I could list include taking almost four clicks to shut down, and if I type 'firewall' into the search it brings nothing back meaning I have to go through Control Panel. They are only small irritants, but W8 contains a lot of them IMHO. I wouldn't dream of foisting it on my users in it's current state.

We've gone out of our way to make our garden bee friendly and have had bumble bee nests in our wood chippings. As others have said they are amazingly docile. I just hope the scientists have turn the population decline around.

After a day and a bit of troubleshooting as every time anyone did a Google search all they got was 'Error 310 - too many redirects' SWGFL have informed me that they enabled Google Safesearch on their proxy in the last couple of days. If you use Websense this will mean you have to disable 'enable search filtering'. Terrible service from the Grid in doing this without telling anyone. It has cost me a whole day and also given me loads of grief from staff.

I had a similar problem to this, and had to install OneNote to open a file. The easiest thing is for the sender to export it as something else (like a Word document IIRC) before they send the file.
