Hi Everyone - I'm after a little assistance if necessary. We have successfully got SIMS working for our schools in an RDS Environment - every school as there own .ini file for sims. So thank you for the assistance from your guys! - we deploy a slightly different SIMS Icon to each school and it works a charm. However - when we apply the same principle to FMS - this doesn't work. The app keeps on defaulting to an old ini file which is in the program folder For example - a sample SIMS Shortcut contains these entries:- Shortcut Name:- SIMS - GGH (school site code) Target:- C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net\Pulsar.exe Arguments:- /CONNECT:"C:\SIMSConnectFiles\SIMSini\GGH" Start In:- C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net\ But when I transpose this idea into the FMS Environment it doesn't work:- Shortcut Name:- FMS - GGH (school site code) Target:- c:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\FMSSQL\Finance.exe Arguments:- /CONNECT:"c\SIMSConnectFiles\newFMSini\FFP\FMSConnect.ini" Start In:- c:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\FMSSQL What I would say, is that the .INI File within the FMS Program Folder does already contain an entry for one of our schools. Is there a way to set FMS to ignore this .ini & null this out via the command line? I have tried to delete the .ini but FMS wont start up without complaining about a missing .Ini. Any help would be fantastic

Hi - just a quick question - I hope! Id like to deploy SIMS in a Remote Desktop Environment - my issue is that the deployed app needs to contain connections to multiple schools databases. I.E. - several schools (each with their own SIMS Database environment) all need access to the same app. Connect.ini is easily fixable so long as it contains references to each of the schools databases etc. But the only thing potentially troubling me is the SIMS.ini file. Each school has their own specific entry within their own generic SIMS.ini e.g. SIMSDirectory=\\192.168.123.123\SIMS$\SIMS_SCH1 SIMSSetupsDirectory=\\192.168.123.124\SIMS$\Setups SIMSDotNetDirectory=C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net or SIMSDirectory=\\192.168.123.123\SIMS$\SIMS_SCH2 SIMSSetupsDirectory=\\192.168.123.124\SIMS$\Setups SIMSDotNetDirectory=C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Can SIMS.ini contain multiple references? Or does this mean that this idea is a dead end because of this? If we cant get all schools onto the same RD Server because of the SIMS.ini issue, then would it mean multiple virtual desktops per school type. I hope that this makes sense - I didn't build our SIMS environment, i've just been asked to look into possible alternate deployment means. At present we use a SIMS Vmware Thinapp which has served us well for the last 5 years - we are just looking at other possible options at present.

Hi, Im after a few pointers if thats possible? I need to create a Local User (non domain) which is a Local Administrator of a given machine. I have a 2008R2 DC and I can restrict the scope of the GPO by means of a filtered group - thats fine, but i could do with some information on how to set the Domain GPO up as this particular challenge doesnt seem that intuitive to me. Essentially, someone has bought a noddy piece of software which will only run as a local administrator. However, our existing domain policies will remove any manually added items configured locally on the device. Cheers

Hi, I've got a bit of a funny here which i'm hoping some kind soul can assist with. We run a hardened Workstation configuration which I have recently inherited and our Workstation Baseline GPO clearly disables a number of Windows services. In addition to this, there are other random services disabled too for whatever reason. I don't know. My problem is this... I have a GPO which deploys a printer queue to our workstations on our domain. Only about 60% of workstations are successfully getting the printer policy. If I run GPRESULT, then it says the machine should be getting the print queue settings. However, when I move a 'faulty' machine out of the hardened OU and into an OU with no linked policy, the printer queue magically appears on the affected workstation. If I then delete the printer of the workstation and move the workstation back to the hardened OU the printer queue is re-installed. Once a machine Is 'fixed', it is fixed properly and I can no-longer replicate the fault on that machine any more... I need to find another faulty machine to test with. So, I was wondering if there are any tools out there which allow me to watch real-time which processes are starting up / stopping or any ideas on how you would deal with this. Ive tried to filter the GPP using groups within ILT but that doesn't work either Again... if I manually define usernames then it works... but if I involve security groups then it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Hi, I was wondering if you can help me. I'm trying to roll out a simple desktop shortcut via GPP (its a user Policy), which works fine when I allow the default "authenticated users" within Scope\Security Filtering However, when I remove this and replace it with a Security Group (to restrict who gets the shortcut on their desktop) it ceases to work. Within the Delegation tab, I have also granted the highest level of permissions (edit settings, delete, modify security) to this security group but it didn't make any difference. BUT, if I remove the security groups and manually define each user in the scope\security filtering it works fine. The problem is that there are well over 200 users! I am using Server 2008R2 for Domain Services and the client machines are all Win7 Professional. Any help would be fantastic.

Hi, I've got a 2008R2 Functional Level AD Forest with a single domain in it - hub and spoke. 20 AD sites, each with their own DC connecting back to a Data Centre across 10meg FD lines. I need to add a KMS Server into this domain, so I've chosen to add a 2012 Server KMS box. We've got an EA with Micro$oft, so there are no worries with regards to software keys etc. Having never set a KMS up before, I've got a few questions which I'm hopeful that you guys can answer. 1) I have entered the KMS Host key into the 2012 box no problems. Am I correct in assuming that the KMS server will now download and store our entire licencing entitlements from MS so that I don't have to enter the Various workstation and server Keys into the KMS? Also, am I correct in thinking that each KMS Client will then locate the KMS Server from the SRV record held in DNS? 2) Can an Office KMS Server and a Windows KMS Server co-exist on the same Host? If I remember correctly, both types of KMS Server use the same TCP Port. Is it just a matter of changing the port number within one of the applications and also its SRV record in DNS? Any help would be fantastic. Cheers
