IJT - Ink Jets & Toners - makingitgreen.co.uk ARGHHH

And me then another a little while later exactly the same but with my name inserted we use a print managed service now so it wouldn't good them any good. Wes -
We replaced around 50 printers over the summer like for like (Still a massive cost saving) the cost at present on the lease per year is £2K less than the consumables budget used last year We're using Samsung CLP620 Colour and ML8255N Mono A4, Konica Minolta Bizhub c10 MFPs A4 and OKI ES8430 Colour A3. So we've removed all of the old printers (sold them off to staff) and got new printers everywhere, over the course of the lease we'll look at fine tuning the amount of printers down to the bare necessities whilst slowly moving over to Electronic Submission and Marking hopefully by the end of the lease we'll have reduced this by ten or more after that well we'll see. I do want to drop the pages printed to around 25% (of current use) over the next 3 years though then it's only the admin and SMT who'll hopefully be printing. PM me if you want to know who we used. If it can't use an extensive list like the IWF then I have to admit Tony dansguardian isn't able to be compared like for like. If it pases all other criteria though and it can use a list as suggested by CyberNerd then this would be different. I wonder how much it costs to link in with the IWF listing services? Wes

What were Beca Accredited Filters rated on? What were the criteria for selection/ Wes

Looks like a three way fight for all of them then Could you PM me your location so I have an idea where we would have to collect them from (Rough Area is fine for now) Wes
-
Come on Tony I doubt anyone could do this for any single package available we all know that software usage and need is relative to the school/education body in question no two are completely alike. Wes
-
We'll also take most computer equipment (well stuff you're throwing out before anyone says anything ) as we're getting lots of requests for basic IT provision and no budget for them. Wes
-
We'll take as many of them as you want. We can collect too! wes

Access Internal Website from External Website
wesleyw replied to william-swc's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
ISA should be in the DMZ as for Sharepoint when publishing it through ISA you can use any authentication method you wish and this will pass those login credentials through. You will need to setup sub domain names with your provider this may cost though. e.g. http://www.school.ac.uk you've got pointing to 200.200.200.200 sharepoint.school.ac.uk will also need to be resolved to this IP address ISA then translates the header to an internal server works really well and it means if you are using 443 then one wildcard SSL is all thats needed! @GarrySaddington: You must have had one fantastic time there then as most schools I've ever known would resist this even if forced, as lots of time and money have been spent on resources specifically aimed at the commerical software they've been using and re-creating this work would not happen over night as such it wouldn't be in the interests of the Pupils learning to so poorly provision them, okay we could slowly adapt the resources to a more generic outline and from there move to a full linux system but the time taken for that would be significant and as people rarely like to wait for massive savings could cause problems in regards to implementation and acceptance. However I would like to be able to do this as cost savings would be ample and some of the software available to Linux in the FOSS communities is fantastic. Wes

1- Seconded, Staff rarely want to change as we saw when putting in Office 2007 for Office 2003. Moving back to OpenOffice/Goo (By moving back I mean the menu systems) would not be appreciated. Also this has a bearing on the use of MIS applications as well and although there are some Free and open Source alternatives to the big commerical ventures I'd have to say it would be difficult to convince anyone that this would be the way to go (unless all the money for budgets dries up to such as point as we can't afford the yearly fees for said MIS package). 2 - Pretty much cover in your first point Tony 3 - Interesting point, Comparing MIS systems and Office would again be my first port of call on this as they are integral to school working life for Admin and nearly every curriculum subject. it would be useful to look at Dansguardian and which features are needed by schools and colleges and compare them to the now defunct Becta suggested lists, what is lacking and what is available for all of the packages recommended by Becta and this paper. Does it matter if OSS or FOSS have a few features missing when the advantages of cost will make up for the extra time to get around their failings? I better not comment on the CC3/CC4 argument as it would take over this posting again I would emphasise whether or not it is needed or more precisely whether or not all of the features are needed then compare software against this list of needed features across the school more than a like for like comparison of each piece of commerical software with its near equal FOSS/OSS offering. This would give a clearer indication of what is needed as we can see from commerical apps features can differ greatly. 4 - Agreed, I could state all sorts of prices but without evidence to back them up they are pointless. 5 - Erm..Microsoft giving away all of it's software? It doesn't need to reside on Linux/Unix but if residing on Windows then the cost of that OS must be taken into consideration surely? Other than that it would be interesting to manage a real world trial of the papers suggested software set compared to a commerical system however as this is regretably impossible to do without a school willing to volunteer I can't see this as an option running the other system in somewhere like the library and one department might be possible but running two MIS programs side by side would be very awkward and a lot of work for IT Services and Admin. @Synack: I'll check to see how the listener is setup, I've already implemented the split DNS as we have several external facing sites we use internally. @Glennda: I've tried the external and internal name of the server, external and internal IP addresses as well. However I think I haven't published the Server correctly publish the TSWeb fine but I think I've made a mistake somewhere with the publish server wizard. I think I'll have a chat with the LEA and see if they can access it within our Council network if they can it's a problem further along the chain. Wes
-
Okay I've published the TS website and it displays this fine externally but when you type in a server name or IP address it shows a blank screen and give you a message saying it cannot establish a connection. I think it's trying to resolve the name I put in for the server via the browser on my laptop instead of resolving it locally where the site is hosted? Firstly is there an easy way or am I going to have to publish the TS server via ISA as well? Wes

I've changed the port that Terminal Services/Remote Desktop uses to 443 from 3389 does anyone know of a way of telling TSWEB to connect to 443 instead of 3389? Wes

Multicasting with FOG seems to be much slower than a single unicast 10-15 Minutes to unicast a laptop and 2 hours to multicast 6? I need to look at IGMP but should I check for anything else as well? Wes
-
Just read and this may be caused by you needing to add a MySQL password to root (mysqladmin -u root -p'' password (BTW those are two quotation marks not a single speech mark )) and add this to two config files located: /opt/fog/service/etc/config.php and /var/www/fog/commons/config.php this should stop the please wait screen from hanging.
