Just wondering how you got on with this, any progress? I am using 1.9 on our website here and the theme I made was a pain in the rear the first time round I don't know if i'm ready for the headache of changing it to 2.0 if its more effort than its worth.

Sorted out the train to go down on Friday. Only thing is I get into London eye wateringly early so I was thinking of walking from canning town station to ExCel to waste time before it opens. I'm not that familiar with that part of London though does anybody know if there are plenty of paths round there? Sounds stupid but last time I was there I walked through Canary Wharf and got in a bit of a pickle when my planned route involved pole volting over some train tracks -.- If anyone sees a pink haired girl wondering about looking lost on Friday kindly point me in the right direction

Hadn't bothered asking to go, but reading through all the BETT stuff I really don't want to miss it so I asked the Head and she practically begged me to go, almost forgot why I went to see her and tried to wriggle out of it

The message has just gone up that should it snow parents can collect their kids early. Fingers crossed for an early dart for the staff too but it seems unlikely. The snow gods have already given us one snow day it seems were aren't lucky enough for two!

We were in the orange on Friday, school closed for kids at 1:00 local staff had to stay till then but the rest of us were told to go so i was in at 9 and out by 10, was hoping for something similar today as it is snowing and all the buses were delayed but its due to stop at 11 so its unlikely -.-

Morning all, I'm having problems with the already much loved Smart Notebook 11. One of our teachers gave me a laptop with the 'bootmngr is missing' message displayed. So rebuild it, checked it and tried to figure out why it had happened. In the meantime gave him a different laptop chucked smart notebook 11 on as his classroom along with 1 other have new smartboards and wouldn't work interactivley with what we already had. So.. whilst looking at the problem laptop he gave me back the temporary one witht he same message -.- So thinking it must be related to Smart Notebook I installed it on a different laptop to see what happened. Same thing happened again. The only difference between these installs and the one in the other classroom which is still working fine were that the problem one was downloaded and the other installed from a disc. So I tried installing from the same disc. Now the same thing has happened again ...sigh Any ideas people or is anyone else having problems installing 11? Nothing about this laptop is different from its neighbour in the classroom next door other than I am sick of seeing this one.

I had never seen the giant key ones before, only the colour coded ones. I just googled it and now I am certain we need those if not just for my own amusment!

Yeah that sort of size is perfect! I just noticed one called little mouse with no scroll wheel which might also help. I'm thinking of using them just for nursery and the lower group of foundation. Just seems ridiculous that everything else is scalled to their size except the mice which they use with two hands :/

I was talking to some of the infant teachers last week about how the kids are getting on with basic computer skills. They start using the computers here from the age of 3 albeit rather humorously/terrifyingly. However they really struggle using the mouse as its just too big for them. I have already attached velcro to one side to help them with which buttons to click as for some reason they are extremely drawn to right clicking everything, but I am stuck for a solution to this other than simply buying smaller mice for the younger classes. I just wanted to ask if anybody has or is already using these, if its worth it and if they will help or if it will just affect them when it comes to using an adult sized mouse once they reach 6 ish? It's hardly a pressing issue but if it will help the kids progress since the majority seem to love using the computers, then it would be really good to hear any opinions on this. Thank you!

Haha thankyou me likey not sure death race will go down with the head to well! I originally wanted 'Kiss my RC' but since this is a primary school maybe something a bit more fluffy with rounder edges would be better suited Also I will watch out for that thankyou Jesmondson!

The PTA run a summer fate at our school every year and this year myself and one of the EAL staff members are running a rc race track for the kids. The track itself is being made from scratch out of wood and painted with removable buildings, ramps, tunnels etc (to accomadate for the infants and juniors abilities) as the theme is 'the school run' basically the first kid to race from home through town to finish at school where they are greeted by a miniture version of our head, wins. we have little racing jackets for the kids and a top gear style leaderboard and podium etc buuuuuut we have one thing yet to think of, a name! we have an engraved trophy being donated for the winner and certificates, banners etc which all need the name on. I think in all honesty we are enjoying the idea of making it a lot more fun than the kids will playing it but the only other stalls are the standard tombola, brick a brack etc and I don't know about our kids but when I was in primary those things didn't highly excite me -.- so we want to put in more effort and hopefully make it fun. so does anyone have any suggestions for a name other than 'race to school' because that is unbelievably all we have haha. muchas gracias!!

It is yep and I am using the same browser on each of the school laptops/computers its tested on and the same browsers out of school

Hullo ok so...I am having an issue with a file displaying properly on our school website here The 'willow's wardrobe' game is driving me loopy. I am not by any means an expert with flash so I am guessing the chances of it being a user error on my part are quite high -.- I hosted the file on our moodle server and embedded the link onto the web page now the problem is...The game displays and plays fine on one of the computers in our suite which I use for a lot of day to day stuff, but when using a different machine it no longer displays its just a bordered white box with the error message "object expected" As far as I can tell there is no difference between either computers other than one runs IE + firefox and the other just IE so I went ahead an installed firefox on the other but it made no difference. both are running the same up to date version of flash and have the same firewall settings etc. an extra nugget of info, the computer it does run on only runs in firefox when you try open the game in IE it acts the same as all the others. Outside of school the game runs fine in all browsers that I have tested. I can't see the difference between the computers so I am stumped. Our support tech very kindly took a look at it despite this not being his problem but couldn't see why this was happening either. Any ideas would be a huge help because I am at that stage where I am just going round in circles.

We use Photoshop elements here (primary school) for lessons where the parents and students take part and although they are young the kids pick it up very quickly so I don't see how older children would struggle with the extra complications of full photoshop. I used it in high school and loved it!

This is the reply I was expecting unfortunatley. I guess I was hoping for a magical fix I had yet to come across but that would be far to easy thankyou for your help I will wave the white flag and send it back since they dont want to pay for the discs.

Hey everyone. Really stupid question here but I am still new to RM and thought it best to ask than waste loads of time trying to figure it out. Basically I was asked to order a new laptop for one of our senior management from RM. Originally I was told that it needed to be the same set up as our other laptops so put in an order for a cc4 ready win XP laptop, pretty standard. However now that it is here I have been asked to set it up as an all singing all dancing laptop completely removed from our RM network -.- we have no windows discs here so my only options are to go ahead and let it build the same as all of our others and then find a way to run it as a stand alone or send it back and order what they want now that I know what that is. I guess my question is if I did want to remove it from all things RM how I would go about doing this without a rebuild with our own windows discs or if this is even feasible. A point in the right direction from someone with more experience with RM would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

We have very similar set ups, Primary school of around 340 students, around 20 PC's, 20 student laptops, 30+ staff laptops, 15 smartboards plus printers, ipads etc. Website to design, develop and manage and new buildings that need sorting out . I order new hardware and software too even though we have an IT coordinator who used to do it but is busy with his teaching work. So not that different and I work 31 hours a week, here everyday and always have something to keep me busy or improve on. The head doesn't have a problem with me fixing home laptops in work hours so if its quiet I always have that as an option too since I don't mind doing it as a favour. The staff are generally very technophobic so really enjoy having support around all the time which is the main reason I don't run out of things to do. The previous technician worked 5 hours every 2 weeks which is ridiculous and the staff didnt know him well enough to ask for help without feeling like they wouldnt be judged for not already knowing.

Im guessing you wanted something a little different from the standard school website look if you dont want to use a template? I had that problem, I'm a techie at a primary school and the templates are almost all aimed at high schools/colleges and the younger kids just weren't interested in using them. I have almost finished the site for our school here I am actually coding it too but I did graphic design before I moved into IT so I have designed for other sites without coding before and am currently talking to another primary school in the northwest about designing a site for them because quite honestly I think web design is at a ridiculous price and I enjoy it! so there are definatley people out there who would be willing to design it and leave the coding up to you outside of design companys making it cheaper for you.

I took out the printers from all the classrooms except the nursery and IT suite and put signs on the remaining ones requesting to print no more than two copies of any document whilst I figured out which option to go for with our printing management. complete suprise to me printing reduced by 80% and anything over a couple of pages staff always come and check if its ok to print....its been about a year and its stayed the same I am still in shock, never did put anything in place.

I’m going to hold full judgement until I have tried it out properly but from what I have seen so far its pretty good, not amazing but good. I get the appeal of the new UI but I just feel as if I have seen it all before. Its so heavily app- focused which is great for everyday use but not so good if you want a bit more from your OS. Seems sort of like the windows 7 sidebar gadgets have just been redrawn and plopped into the center of the screen. They were handy at first but then i started to hate them and hid them all so I probably wont like the UI boxes either. I am glad to see they finally did something visually differentthough. But for me personally the design is really not to my taste. It seems to be aimed at teenage girls but if the level of customisation is good enough to make it slicker then I can see myself using it...maybe.

It isnt a high proirity for us to have the kids use the site from home since atleast half our kids have no internet access outside of school so the teachers will just use it as a guiding tool in school hours but stupid as it sounds I had overlooked the idea that they would have to then navigate differently outside of school -.- thankyou for pointing that out I think im in permanent monday mode atm! The balloon owl is actually to hide the calendar once its coded since we dont want it viewable all the time. when you click on the owl the calendar fades in behind it and the owl 'floats' off the screen. So the calendar space will be free and the google map is being moved to the info page soooo Im thinking it might be better to have quick links there instead. the names do correspond to the owls yep but they arent all quizzes, they are links to school clubs or activitys . It was an idea to get the kids more involved in moodle. Each owl was named after a tree and has a 'hobbie' like arts or sport etc. you see them intergrated with things all over the school and we have little plush toys of each owl which the kids can earn as rewards, a sort of collect them all job. A drop down box would be really helpful for the teacher resources since theres just to many to list but I think I will definatley drop the flash menu and shift things around on the front page to make way for the links I wanted there instead since then I can still use image links which the SEN teachers had a preference for. Thanks for the tip, atleast now I know that it is easy enough to do, as i mentioned moodle is still shiny and new to me so im not 100% on what works best. The reason I was leaning more towards flash is simply because i'm used to it, and have more confidence in it and to be honest I just like to play about with it I surpose though my main point is just wether to add in the menu, come up with a different way of displaying the links to make moodle...a bit less like moodle or just leave it as is. But I fear leaving it as it is, whilst fully usable, will cause headaches from the tech phobes amongst the staff.
