I did look at this funny enough and it was the only thing I wasn't sure about! I have RADIUS/NPS setup at two sites and the certificates are different (the only thing different between the two), the certificate at the site which isn't working says it is still valid under the Edit Protected EAP properties but the server I got the certificate from I don't know whether it exist any more (As it is/was one at head office) does that matter? 1. Am I look at the right bit about certificates? (Under Authentication Methods/Edit Protected EAP properties? 2. How would I renew it? Do you think I need to renew it? Thanks FB

ranj - I see you were having problems with NPS and was wondering if I could ask you a couple of simple questions... We had NPS setup and working with a set of 16 laptops and all of a sudden they have stopped working :0s I had my RADIUS clients added and setup with there shared secret The connection request policies setup basically just to enabled connection all the time and nothing set in the the settings tab And under Netowrk Policies it set to grant access, unspecified network access server. Conditions set to Domain computers and Domain users. Constraints set to Protected EAP in authentication methods and a associated policy setup in AD to apply to the laptop which all worked well. I haven't touched it for ages and now it doesn't work. In the test phase I use to watch the client connect I believe in the eventvwr and see different NPS events happens now I can't fine anything!!! Just so I know I'm not going mad it was the System event log the messages are logged in yes? Did you use any other tools apart from event log meesages to solve your issue? Last time I set it up the event log was about all I needed but now I can't see anything logged!!!!!!

Added the IP Helper did work thanks SYNACK

I haven't because my support people said that if I tag the ports correctly for the 10.143, VLAN 20 network even thought the APs are on a 10.140 address and the DHCP server is on 10.143 the VLAN should get the IP address though does that sound right to you? because I wasn't 100% convinced!
-
Or would a better way be permit ip 10.140.3.0 0.0.0.255 host 10.143.1.11?? I assume though that you need to let the traffic though both ways would I bet correct? so I would also need "permit ip host 10.143.1.11 10.140.3.0 0.0.0.255" Can any one help?

I need to add a ACL line on my router to let a DHCP server (10.143.1.11) on my 10.143.0.0 subnet access my APs on the 10.140 subnet which all have the address 10.140.3.x An example of the ACL now would be ip access-list extended MainVLAN permit tcp any host 10.144.5.1 eq www permit tcp any host 10.144.5.1 eq 443 permit tcp any host 10.144.5.1 eq 3389 permit tcp 10.140.1.0 0.1.0.255 10.140.5.0 0.0.0.255 eq telnet permit ip host 10.140.1.10 10.141.0.0 0.0.255.255 permit ip 10.140.1.0 0.0.0.127 any permit tcp host 10.0.1.51 any permit ip host 10.0.1.51 any If I add the line "permit ip host 10.143.1.11 10.140.3.0 0.1.1.255" would that work? I always get confused with the wildcard subnet masks

WPAD File, Auto Detect Proxy Server
FatBoy replied to steveo2000's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Hi all, Just want to clarify something... I want to get the clients on my boarders network to automatically detect the proxy so I have made a proxy.pac which works. I have added the 252 option in DHCP and when obtaining a IP address DHCP added the location of the pac file into the Address box (eg http://servername/proxy.pac) in the automatic configuration bit of IE. But it doesn't work until I tick the "Use automatic Configuration script" tick box, is there a way to get this tick box ticked without manually doing it? Or should this work without this tick box being ticked? -
Just for a little update for everyone and information for anyone else that might be considering doing this... DB size 64GB Server has Intel Xeon 3.20Ghz processor and 2GB of RAM Yesterday I ran ESEUTIL /g to check the integrity before a defrag which took just under 2 hours and all reported ok Then ran ESEUTIL /d to defrag the DB which about 4 hours and reduced the DB from 64GB to 46GB so I'm very happy No issues with running them either

Thanks SYNACK, I'll take I look at that link and follow the instructions later, emergency postponed for the time being tho! I guess (haven't read yet) that you will have to take exchange down to run the maintenance anyway?

Strange I have checked the eventvwr viewer after mounting the mail store and I have the below event: Event Type: Warning Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store Event Category: General Event ID: 9685 Date: 30/04/2010 Time: 08:15:55 User: N/A Computer: CSCOMAIL09 Description: Exchange store 'First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (CSCOMAIL09)': The current physical size of this database (the .edb file and the .stm file) is 63 GB. This database has exceeded the size limit of 60 GB. However, the logical free space in this database has not yet been evaluated. Therefore, it is possible that this database contains enough free space to bring its logical size below the maximum size limit. If the logical database size exceeds the maximum size limit, it will be dismounted on a regular basis. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. Well that says it all! But how is the database 63GB when I then checked the priv1.edb which was 40GB and the pub1.edb is only 15MB????

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem before and can point me in the right direction to solving it! This week the exchange server has stopped accepting connections 3 times, (on the 25th, 27th and today). At first I thought it was something to do with the M$ Exchange Information Store at restarting it brings the server back up. But after some reading and it going down this morning I checked the 'mailbox store' in the System manager and found it to be dismounted. I right clicked the mailbox store and told it to mount and we were back up and running again, my only problem of course is to stop this happening in the future. When the exchange server goes down the following events happen in the event viewer. 1st one: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: Monitoring Event ID: 1005 Date: 30/04/2010 Time: 05:09:19 User: N/A Computer: CSCOMAIL09 Description: Unexpected error <<0xc1050000 - Unknown Error. The logon to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 80040111-03ee-80040111>> occurred. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. Then: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: MAPI Session Event ID: 9175 Date: 30/04/2010 Time: 05:10:16 User: N/A Computer: CSCOMAIL09 Description: The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error: The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000 For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. And lastly: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: Monitoring Event ID: 1005 Date: 30/04/2010 Time: 05:10:16 User: N/A Computer: CSCOMAIL09 Description: Unexpected error <<0xc1050000 - The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000>> occurred. For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. And after the last event the Event ID 9175 (middle event) just repeats until I mount the mailbox store. I checked the DB size under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\\Private- and in decimal it was set to 60GB. I then checked the priv1.edb which was 40GB and the pub1.edb is only 15MB so the size is ok, as I was told this could be a problem. These files are on the D:\ drive of my server and it has 198GBs free so free space isn't a issue, altho my C:\ drive has only 1.19GB free. Any help would really be appreciated Thanks FB

LOL really! madness! I think I have resolved the issue at least to the point that my website looks ok. I think I was trying to float to many of the div's if that makes sense Either way thanks for the heads up on what I should do

Really I thought you were able to ask for help, otherwise how are you suppose to get over little issues that come up? I guess you are only suppose to ask tutors for help. And yes now you have mentioned what you have said I guess that makes sense, if they use bots to scan the internet to stop copy cats. I guess I better delete it and ask my tutor/support centre for help instead. It's just with the 10 point courses I didn't think you had a dedicated tutor. Really it makes prefect sense why I shouldn't put it on here as other people could see and copy it doh!!!! :0s

Hi All, Post deleted, thanks for letting me know I should put it on here mossj

Yeah just tried that but still no joy It gets to the "Windows is loading files" with the progress bar below and the server ip below that. The progress bar goes all the way across then the screen changes to what I would call what looks like the vista/7 windows loading screen but instantly crashes out and goes back to loading the OS that's on the HDD

We have been using wds for a while now with no problems imaging 32 bit PC's, now comes a long a 64 bit machine that will not boot. I found if I go to the server properties in WDS under the boot tab there are options under the default boot program for x86, ia64 and x64 systems. My problem is in the D:\RemoteInstall\Boot folder I only have files in the x86 folder. Where can I get the right x64 files (pxeboot.com etc) so I can get my 64 bit machine booting correctly? I didn't install WDS the first time round and I have searched for a download of the files but still can't work out where to get them from Thanks FB

FatBoy replied to FatBoy's topic in How do you do....it?

Error Line 3 Char 2 Permission Denied Why wouldn't I have rights to the file? once its created I have checked the permissions and everything looks ok -
Hi all, I'm trying to list all the computers on my domain using vbs and output them to a text file. I think I'm nearly there but I don't know how to fix the error I'm getting: Line 9 Char 2 Bad file mode Can someone help please? Sub ListConnectedComputers( strDomain ) Dim objPDC Set objTextFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("computers.txt") Set objPDC = getobject("WinNT://" & strDomain ) objPDC.filter = Array("Computer") For Each objComputer In objPDC 'WScript.Echo "Name: " & objComputer.Name objTextFile.WriteLine(objComputer.Name) Next objTextFile.Close End Sub Dim strDomain Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set objFile = objFSO.CreateTextFile("computers.txt", True) Do strDomain = inputbox( "Please enter a domainname", "Input" ) Loop until strDomain <> "" ListConnectedComputers( strDomain )

Problem solved guys (I think) I found the problem, I found a cable on the student VLAN plugged into a port on the default vlan , I have unplugged it and at the moment it seems fine, fingers crossed! Thanks for the help
-
Yes one of the DHCP servers is in a way.....The Server providing the DHCP to the student VLAN is a virtual server, the physical server it is residing on is on the normal default Vlan and this is on Network card 1. Then the virtual server has network card 2 assigned to the virtual server and this port plugs into the student VLAN. So even though the physical server is on both Vlan's the bindings have to be correct don't they as the virtual server can't see NW card 1, would I be correct in saying that? If I am correct in what I have just explained I'll go over the main switch again just to be sure that all the network cables are correctly in the right Vlan ports Thanks for your replys they have pointed me in the right direction I'll also take a look at Wireshark

Hi all, We have two DHCP servers setup here at the school one on each VLAN. The VLANs are static (assigned to ports on switches) there is a default vlan (10.140.*) in school classrooms etc and our student boarder VLAN (10.143.*). Everything has worked fine for quite a while now but today the DHCP server from our student VLAN .143 started giving ip address to clients or our default vlan  We have an external company working on the routers but they say they have done nothing and I can't work out why this would start happening. Has anyone got any idea's? Any help, tips or things to check to try and isolate the problem would be great. Thanks FB
